  1. Didn't get enough patrons last week to justify spending the money on grooming. Especially after the cookie and hot hit chocolate bill came in.

  3. It has always been my dream to try cross-country skiing, and today my dream was finally realized at Camelback Mountain. The day had started off promising with ample freshies inbound. I headed to East Gourmet Buffet and had pepper chicken, oysters, white rice, bananas with red gel, and tap water. I tipped the waitress one dollar. Then I headed to Camelback and received the awesome news that preferred parking was free for all today. My day was just getting better and better, and I saved 72 steps (mostly uphill). Little did I know that I would need all the energy I could muster to survive cross-country skiing. The snow was coming down like crazy, and the mountain looked identical to Colorado. I knew crowds would be pretty heavy because other mountains (i.e. Blue) are in extreme remote Alpine tundra backcountry and only accessible by sled dog. I called it right - Upper Marc Antony was indistinguishable from the Schuylkill Expressway at rush hour. Due to the massive undertaking earlier this season to open snowtubing before Blue, no other trails were available, and all skiers congested the narrow passage, causing major delays and several near-misses. At this time I discovered two new cross-country trails. The first was at the top of Upper Marc Antony, and the second was right before Honeymoon. Due to the slow snow, getting down the mountain required an incredible amount of exertion at both of these spots. I pushed and pushed and wore my arms out. I also tried using the ice skating technique, but that wore my legs out after a while. A former instructor gave me a lesson on how to ski cross-country more efficiently. I improved a little after receiving his wisdom, but by this time my energy levels were drained, and ski wax was far beyond my reach. I made 25 runs today, less than half compared to last Saturday when conditions were epic. To conclude, the scenery today was spectacular, and the snow was amazing. If Camelback had opened either Upper Cleo, or even James’s Way, those trails would have replaced the need to ski on ultra flat terrain, and I'd likely still be skiing for 4 more minutes. Those two trails would not have required a lot of snow, and Upper Cleo would have also alleviated much of the congestion on Upper Marc Antony. Overall, I am a little disappointed with the terrain today, which could have been much, much more fun especially with the surprise blizzard. But a Camelback official assured me that half the mountain will be open by next weekend. Hopefully by this time the gnarliness will return to Camelback.

  5. Hey All, I'm back from a fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I rocked out to Lehigh valley regaee music, 50 cent and lil Kim on the drive up and arrived at the upper lot around 7:20am and the temperature was are 28 degrees under cloudy sky's. In the house were Atomic Jeff, JFBB Dan, PARidge, NMSki, Gah skier George, Indiggio, Kevin, Mother Nature and a few jerrys. I forgot if if I was first or second chair doesn't matter..was nice to be out skiing again and come around was prettt good, midway was playful conditions with push piles and edgeabke hardback. Easy out and vista were a delight and lower Main Street was the suck..just goofy slow sort of slick yet not smooth and bowling ball sized death cookie on left side..the base is deep though. Lift lines were a couple minutes to ten minutes long on average..may have got longer later although I noticed a lot of people were using the vista lift as well. They had both the Main Street and Burma chairs going but impossible to have full capacity on both lifts with just one section of two scanners. Oh well #FirstWorldProblems...I got a decent amount of runs in and had some good beers in the parking lot with falling snow...I'd say 2 solid inches as of 1230pm im sure a little more before it is all said and done. The fresh snow should groom in well with the manmade for solid skiing tomorrow but I also expect alot of crowds as the backyard affect is in full swing with snow in the flatlands. I really hope expect and want upper Main Street to open tomorrow the inversions have been a killer this season. I think that homestretch and tuts lane will be ready soon along with lazy mile..The guns never shut off while I was skiing and it's well below freezing and will be colder mid week so by next weekend should see a lot more terrain open. It's only day 6 and I don't think I've ever skied come around so much.

  18. If you want to avoid midway with your daughter can take vista lift first and scootch over to lazy mile. I wish the Burma side of the liftline was open as that is typically a shorter line than the Main Street lift. Both lifts are running but only one liftline..which makes it impossible for all the chairs to be filled.

  41. Ok. I'll let you know how it is. I'll be going late morning/afternoon. If Blue would get even one more trail open I might go there tomorrow. Just starting to get bored with the same trails open at each mountain week after week.
