I have a ski stretcher at my house, I dont think we will be able to stretch the 170's up to a 177, but Id bet we could be able to get them in the 175 range. For a good case of beer Ill let you borrow it and we can kill this debate.5 points

Should have got the 177s. I hear Camelback is a great place to get a season pass!5 points

Hey All, I'm back from another fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. It was around 11 degrees when I arrived at the lower lot at 725am and not as windy as yesterday but still very cold. In the house were JfDan, PARidge, Toast, Slim, GahSkier George and many others. No indiggio today..it's always a mystery which Subaru he comes in I think he alternates. Ended up on the second civilian six pack..slackers..Challenge was a carpet for first run so nice..then hit up Razors and there was a layer of about 3" of beautiful diamond dust lighter than the tears of an unborn baby wow was it good so we hit that three times. I still haven't been on razorback yet this season. Did one run on sidewinder and it was like Toasts favorite Katie Perry song Hot and Cold..some good spots some not so good. Switchback is open i skied it once and it was good for the first day just just ok compared to the other terrain. Main Street had nice snow and so did lazy mile which was crazy mile. We took the quad up once and gosh the piles on nightmare to dreamweaver are massive and the groomers were also grooming out the massive whales in Central Park. Guns were also blowing on the two glade runs. Paradise was also good but a little crowded and I skied Paradise twice. The highlight of today was being on the res chair not once but twice..the red chair is sweet and the red color stores heat so it's a good chair to ride if you wanna warm up your buns or hands. After skiing the last four days in a row with at least three more on tap I had my Phil like Mickelson and left..did not have any beers today just drove straight to work put together a deposit and going to the bank then lunch then read what Salty is up to and take a nap..ski everybody this weekend. Hopefully AngryHugo, Johnny Law and NMSki will be out I haven't seen those guys much.4 points

Toast Crested Butte is an awesome, funky little town. Snowshoeing, XC ski (Nordic center with groomed trails), surprising amount of great restaurants and bars, full spa at the hotel next to the lifts. http://www.watchdogcb.com/vacation-rental-home.asp?PageDataID=132730#Calendar you know I always give the “PASR” discount if anyone wants to come non holiday periods. In those pictures the ladder has been replaced with a spiral staircase which the town insisted I install (I freaking hate it).4 points

Salty, nice purchase. The 177 probably would have been better, but you won't even notice it over the useful life of those skis to you. And you're not skiing on total crap now, so when you're ready for your next set you can afford to take your time and hit free demo days and test all kinds of brands and widths and lengths and really dial in on what you like best. In the meantime, these skis are gonna kick ass for you and you're gonna have a hell of a season. Also, I feel like you only purchased them from where you did to avoid buying Root his sixer, which is totally against the bro-code so I think you still owe it to him. As it is written so shall it be done. Now shut up and ski.4 points

To quote GSS - “long skis truck, short skis suck”. Sorry, his words, not mine. But your skis are too short for you.4 points

There are very few things that are better in life than those first few runs on razors this morning. It was like skiing on silk. Nice to ski switchback as well. Sidewinder was also good as was main, challenge and damn near everything today... Even Burma which Dan and myself skied after a trip to the True Blue Ski shoppe. Shout out to the ski shop in the valley for fixing my boot for me in literally minutes. Always a good experience with them. Proof we were burning our asses off on the red chair below.3 points

Razors was the best I have skied it other than fresh snow. WOW JUST WOW. Everything else was pretty damn good too. They will be 100% by the year's end. Can our local historian Doug confirm this as the only time?3 points

Did he even fucking hand flex them? If no, then he'll never choose an appropriate ski.3 points

Blue wouldn't care if you built a bonfire in the lower lot. They'd probably sell you a bag of marshmellows for $82 points

So I thought I'd update on the sleeping adventures in the north east. I've now tested the Marmot Never Summer bag at -10. I had to add a blanket over top. I was only wearing a thin long sleeve shirt and pants. This weekend I'm looking to head up to upstate NY and or possibly ME. I'm switching over to the Marmot CWM as the temps this weekend will be between -20 & -30 at night. The bag has a -40 degree rating with 800+ fill down. This baby packs some serious heat!! I can't tell you how awesome Marmot bags are. Great quality and will keep you warm! I changed my spark plugs and battery LOL. I have to say it is brutal outside in these temps. GoPro batteries last 1 run before shutting off. I carry 5 batteries and I got a total of 5 runs before all batteries were shot.2 points

No crowds. $50 lift ticket but I bought it with a $100 gift card they sold me for $80, so really cost $40. And kids ski free with PA ski passport. Super cheap vaca.2 points

I see Dan still rocking the same neon orange hoody! I was behind a guy at Eldora a few weeks ago who’s outfit was similar. I immediately said “Dan” in my head. You guys should come out this way sometime and try Crested Butte.2 points

But on the other hand, what would the lift lines be like with the 170 vs the 177? Lift lines are the most important factor in lyfe. One could sound pessimistic and say that he could have gotten down the mountain faster and MAYBE be one person further ahead in line on the 177s due to the spread of the body weight vs mass over the larger square footprint of the 177 vs the 170. But I say Salty should just console himself with the fact that on the 170s EVERY SINGLE LIFT LINE he stands in for the duration of the time he owns those skis will be roughly 7cm/2 shorter, pending binding placement of course. That's gonna add up over the average of 130 runs per day that he does, and really make the 170 a no-brainer for what's most important.2 points

The Loft should be able to help you out, if they cant get it sorted let me know.2 points

You said you were getting a blue pass in February and don't worry about the length of your skis..if you got 177s people would have said to get the 184s.2 points

skied at mount snow in the rain and my "gore tex" gloves soaked through, hands got cold, borrowed some medical gloves from the kitchen staff, put them on under the wet gloves, was ok the rest of the day. Now when I go on a ski trip I carry a pair of cotton gloves and a pair of dishwashing type gloves that fit over the cotton ones in case of rain. looks odd, works well.2 points

This was a debate years ago on here. On the old stats manager, 2 visits would count as 2 days when viewing your own stats, but on the leaderboard, would count as 1 day. I can't exactly remember how the new one works, despite writing it myself.1 point

Nice report..amazing how much terrain is still closed at Camelback but it's a really big mountain. Buy some new sunglasses..the most expensive sunglasses I ever had were Oakleys and they were $150 and I lost them at some point..current ones are from Kohls and they were maybe $26 but I used the company credit card and they are a rich mahogany frame with a steezy blue lens. Glad the RTMs treated you good..next you'll need some fat skis for when we go Heli Skiing in Alaska.. What did you have for lunch..I hate lodges..I'd rather sit in Johnny laws car and eat year and a half old lucky charms off the floor. The lodge at Blue smells like a combination of urine, feet and French fries. The bathroom at Blue was utterly destroyed before 10am..at least Gary wasn't there in his tighty whiteys1 point

Totally agree. The bumps were very good today as well. Hayata wasn't there today, late night after a concert, he knows you by sight. My apologies for ignoring you, I would have liked to say hello.1 point

You guys are unreasonable. First, he's trolling you. He appears to trust the shop better and thinks that he knows better what skis he needs, and you're all locked into wide and long period. Second, he's freaking right to ski 170 as a beginner (if he's really a beginner). He's gonna keep the skis for only a season or two and then will decide whether to go longer or shorter. Beginners are not supposed to be skiing stiff and long, it's pointless. He would be just going straight all the time and beating his speed records. Not only is he OK with his 81/170, but his radius is also medium at 16. A 14 would be even better. Third, you all actually know that his choice is OK very well as I've seen some very sound comments here from people who actually take time and write a good paragraph or two. Except that those paragraphs often need to be taken with a grain of salt because salty isn't you. Meaning take your extreme numbers and downscale a bit for his abilities and weekend daytime skiing conditions. Finally, he didn't try 177, and he can't extrapolate what he felt at 170 to longer skis. He removed guesswork from the equation and chose to buy something that he'd be able to ski with confidence over the season. All of the numbers are academics, advising someone to buy a ski based on how tall he is is bullshit. Weight matters much more than height. W/o trying you can't know how the ski will behave. There are also a lot of numbers that are not published like torsional stiffness. Atomic sometimes writes longitudinal one, but never torsional. And that affects ice grip. Flex distribution also means a lot. He could've I guess asked one of you who already skis RTM, picked his brain and adjusted for himself, but nobody here skis RTM. And so this thread is completely pointless.1 point

Wow JfDan is parked next to me he gets after it. Go skiing Salty if you have off work.1 point

And yes the 7cm does make a difference. Otherwise they wouldn't make them in different sizes. Enjoy your new skis salty1 point

Nah, that's sad. He's finished. No more one of a kind Elons. No more hunting for the best skis of his life. Now he's doomed to a boring winter of skiing on the same last season RTMs that nevertheless have to be religiously chained every time he has to go to a restroom.1 point

Hotronics boot heaters ftw. -6 yesterday and I was fine until the batteries died around 2pm. Grabbed my spare batt set and skied until lat chair.1 point

Nice. 24 mpg. Cold cold today. Sidewinder is sweet. razors is better today. The cold is tough, but the snow is nice. need to get used to it for a little while here. While in line for the 6, a guy went pond skimming. somehow went off the front of the platform while trying to get on the lift. Saw some camo today. Probably more tomorrow.1 point

This morning was fun but cold as hell. 0 degrees when I left this am while rocking out to the Go Go's. Snow was really good and the new sidewinder is the shit which I'm officially putting in my top 3 favorite trails at Blue behind NMDW and Switchback. Didn't necessarily want to leave but after almost 2 hours my toes were numb. Still fun. Will be back tomorrow am.1 point
