  1. Main Street was fun to, and Da Glades opened - thin in Sleepy Xing, but Lazy Baumer was deep stacked from snow making, not icy, and fun! Sent from my R1 HD using Tapatalk

  2. Didn't ski today--the wind chill was too brutal. I skied at Pico the other day in -7 weather and it was fine, but there was no wind that day. The last couple of days here the wind chill has been like 25 below and I found out the hard way how much of a difference wind speed makes. So Okemo yesterday was a day skiing, and I'm not complaining, but it was challenging. First, it was scary cold. My only problems were feet and face, but they were serious problems. My Hotronics cranked to "eleven" just couldn't keep my toes from being painfully cold. You had to cover your face, but doing so fogged your goggles and the fog immediately froze, so you'd have to figure some damn way to get ice off your lenses. The Airhole balaclava I was wearing was nice, thick fleece, but it got saturated from condensation right away, so was worse than useless as face coverage. The snow was pretty firm to begin with and then became scraped off quickly, with big, bald ice patches everywhere. So you were always sort of looking for snow and dealing with ice. And it was really crowded, so there was a lot of standing around not moving much, which didn't help anything. At one point I went inside the lodge at the Solitude lift to warm my feet and before you know it i was at the bar drinking a Magic Hat and eating a F-ING AMAZING plate of chicken and waffles. That was really the highlight of the day. On the way home I almost didn't make it up the hill to my family's house, so all my evangelizing about Bridgestone Blizzaks should now come with the caveat that you really should have all wheel drive in Vermont. Rear-axle torque: I needed it. Headed home tomorrow and hoping to get some runs in first thing on NYD.

  3. I don't want to speak for everyone, but I think you've kind of reached the point where most people don't really care about what you post and are only (if that) looking for a spot to troll the troller.

  8. My dad sent me this picture today. Looking west into the Lehigh Gap. You can see them deconstructing the old trestle that used to cross. And of course a beautiful black diamond diesel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. 177s would have just floated right down that due to the increased surface area.

  17. Usually if my lunch break is longer than an hour I count it as two days. Or if I go back out with a different set of skis, or a different jacket.

  22. Doing a 2nd Montage day, since our hotel was 3 miles away and we woke to see at least 2" of fresh had landed last night (and is still coming down) on top of the nice surface from yesterday. Bomus that virtually nobody is tracking it up. Long Haul is running and serving the least tracked up run. Conditions are so nice I may take my girls on one of the double blacks (Smoke) today, which would be a first for them.

  29. Nice report SallyCat. I haven't skied Vermont in 6-7 years. I went to college at UVM so mainly skied Stowe and Sugarbush..I never had goggle icing issues wearing a balaclava I just don't like have my face covered in snot. Hopefully the single digit temperatures New Years morning will feel balmy to you..

  33. What time does buckmans open?? Buckmans is on the wrong side of the road to get tickets on the way to blue or rentals for that matter anybody else ever think that?? Shadows still calls it Nestors. Nestors was the shit.

  34. It's pretty terrible when for $12 more a skier could just stop by Buckmans on the way to hill and get a ticket that's good for twice as long

  38. Ironically, it can be too cold to grill. When it's too cold, propane doesn't convert to a gas, or at least at a high enough pressure. Sunday's forecast high of 17 might be pushing it, but we'll give it a go. I don't think that I have a portable charcoal grill anymore, or I would go that route. Blue doesn't seem to have any rules against charcoal.

  42. i dont like going to it in the winter, so i dont. no, really my work is seasonal. being able to take off in the winter when i like makes up for 70-80 hr weeks April to November. Over the winter i just have projects that need to be completed before April 1st, so its very flexible.

  43. There are very few things that are better in life than those first few runs on razors this morning. It was like skiing on silk. Nice to ski switchback as well. Sidewinder was also good as was main, challenge and damn near everything today... Even Burma which Dan and myself skied after a trip to the True Blue Ski shoppe. Shout out to the ski shop in the valley for fixing my boot for me in literally minutes. Always a good experience with them. Proof we were burning our asses off on the red chair below.

  44. But on the other hand, what would the lift lines be like with the 170 vs the 177? Lift lines are the most important factor in lyfe. One could sound pessimistic and say that he could have gotten down the mountain faster and MAYBE be one person further ahead in line on the 177s due to the spread of the body weight vs mass over the larger square footprint of the 177 vs the 170. But I say Salty should just console himself with the fact that on the 170s EVERY SINGLE LIFT LINE he stands in for the duration of the time he owns those skis will be roughly 7cm/2 shorter, pending binding placement of course. That's gonna add up over the average of 130 runs per day that he does, and really make the 170 a no-brainer for what's most important.
