I don't think I'd go that far. It was certainly cold, but tolerable. I'd maybe call it "each kid gets their own cup of hot cocoa" weather.7 points

Wow, snow was amazing! Heard they haven’t had any snow since Christmas. Started out on Red Lady lift then heralded over to Paradise Bowl. I told my son to go enjoy since I can’t keep up with him, so we parted ways here. Took 3 runs down Paradise Bowl then went over to Painter Boy lift, which I have never been. Some mellow blue runs and terrain park on that side. The powder was better over there since the lift is slow and runs are shorter. Spent the rest of the morning over there. Then a quick 10 min shuttle ride home. This one taken from the chairs at the Umbrella Bar. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk4 points

Just when it warmed up the runs got pretty chalky and scraped. Still fun, though. Stayed until 1:30 ish. The crowds definitely came, but it wasn't overwhelming. Certainly there are more pressing global issues for humanity to contend with in these dark times, but the social contract that governs the VIP/Season Passholder lane at the six-pack lift is badly in need of reform. It seems that many passholders bring through the gate with them a radical libertarian worldview, a sort of queue-based ego-anarchism that causes them to slide alongside some number of other VIPs, look the traffic-directing liftie in the eye, and say "ONE." It is indisputably in the interest of all VIPs that everyone form groups of six whenever possible, because this moves VIPs off the line and onto the lift the fastest. The political philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau would say that forming groups is consistent with the General Will, which is synonymous with the best interest of the community as a whole and the interest of each individual within that community. Rousseau goes on to say that an individual who acts in a manner contrary to the General Will must be compelled to abide by it. "this means nothing less" he asserts, "than that he will be forced to be free." Despite the ominous, Jacobin undertones of that statement, I feel that it is the duty of all VIPs to set a good example and form groups, so as to show the occasional ego-anarchist the benefits of belonging to a civil society. On another note. the quad chair line appears to have been designed by a Marxist with a sense of humor. There is indeed a "VIP" gate, but once though, the Important Person finds him or herself on line in the general corral with everyone else. The result is a long stretch of time spent in the company of non-Important Persons, and one can't help but assume that the designer of this arrangement is playing a long game. Over time, those on line will no doubt come to see themselves not as "VIPs" vs. "Day Pass Holders" but rather, in a collective assumption of class-consciousness, will identify solely as "Customers." When that day comes, the VIP line at the six-pack chair will become unsustainable, and perhaps even fall to the revolutionary zeal of the Customers.3 points

Another fun day. Here is some interesting news....big boulder is 100% open as of today. They can open freedom in 24 hrs, but to open the rest of the place it takes about 50 days.2 points

Thw condition of floors can tell you a lot about a building. lower lodge has 2x4s for floor and you can tailgate in gravel lots. Once they put tile/carpet/asphalt in funs over2 points

Even if the snow sucks seems like a good deal for you and the kids. March and april may be a hit. Slow start out there i guess. spring break out there can get a bit ridiculous though.2 points

In your eyes, ok. But lets face it, she didnt buy them there. Why the fuck would they want to stop tuning my skis that i purchased from them, to see if they could fix a ski that wasnt purchased there, and from previous posts, its pretty obvious the bindings/ski should go back to where ever they came from so that they are right/safe/not superglued the fuck back together. The shop at Blue is actually pretty decent, and i have had nothing but good experiences there. i bought my last pair of skis there, and maybe its just me, but i think that goes along way for getting good service. RidgeRacer bought a pair of boots at the tent sale earlier this year. lost a buckle somewhere along the way. Dude took his boot in the back, came out with a buckle on it in 5 mins. Not beyond lame. I'm pretty sure you knew going in you had about a 10% chance of them fixing them. I highly doubt they would want to assume the liability for fixing your skis if it was at all sketchy. Like most everybody else im a big internet shopper for gear, and it hurts the brick and mortar stores, but it is what it is. I would buy another pair of skis from them in a minute if the price was close. I think the shop at blue does a great job considering the fact most people they deal with in there clueless themselves, and im sure that gets old quick. Not sure Buckmans should be placed as high as you might think.2 points

So I have one of those WNEP cards, and since Shawnee is on it, I figured, I ought to stop by while the snow is decent, and cold is supposed to keep the crowds away. It was -4F in the morning, frozen corduroy, a few cars, hardly any people. Saw people fishing on Delaware ice on my way here. Tents, other gear, I figure, they've been doing it all night long. Shawnee had two lifts running: quad express and a double. Until about 11 there were no lines at all, I kept using instructor's entrance at the lift because no people, and nobody really cared. That was also the coldest time of the day: even with toe warmers I had to return to the lodge every hour. Interestingly, the cold weather didn't prevent people from bringing 5-year olds, and they clearly had lots of fun. And not just kids, everyone had fun during those hours. I liked how modest Shawnee racing team was. Even though they've been practicing, and had gates set up, they've hardly taked 40% of the trail, and the rest was still open to the public. Was fun racing with kids It warmed up considerably around noon, and my feet stopped giving me any trouble. But that open the gates for a flood of noobs, and I fell prey of one of them. I was boarding the express on the left side when a girl in the middle instead of just sitting down in her spot decided to drift forward and to the left until she got in front of me. I was already sitting at that time and was almost ready to grab her and sit on my laps when she realized that it wouldn't be in her best interests, and decided to go farther left instead. Unfortunately she also got caught in my skis and started twisting them. The lift was still moving, I couldn't really free myself, and was literally forced off the chair. The knees survived, but the pain was baaaad. Anyway, it's almost 2pm now, and the lodge is about 80% full. Gotta do a few more runs before going home. Delaware is now a park, too bad, and I don't envy all these boarders: it's a long way to push themselves back to the express.1 point

Another rad day at Camelback. I missed First Trax for the second day in a row, since my bed was just too comfortable to get after it. I decided on a late start and arrived at 10:51. Surprisingly, there were plenty of parking spaces available near the Nastar Glen Lodge, so I was pretty stoked about that. First run of the day was on Pocono Raceway. I aimed to practice carving and making wide "S" turns, but unfortunately the race teams took up half of Pocono Raceway, and also half of Rhododendron Glen, which is a trail nearly identical to Pocono Raceway. That was a little disappointing, since it would be better for most people (i.e. me) if they set up two racecourses on just one trail, and then left the other one empty for the general public. Then I moved on to do a few runs on Cliffhanger, which was mad steezy and started forming tiny moguls (good news for all you mogul lovers). I find that moguls make runs unnecessarily difficult, so I then went to other black diamonds, and found The ASP and Marjie's to be in surprisingly excellent shape, a stark comparison to last night's ice fest on those two trails. The Rocket was fairly icy, but The Hump (opened this Saturday) was terrible! Practically nothing but wall to wall ice, with just a few small patches of sugary snow here and there. The express lifts were operating better than last night, with far fewer stoppages. A worker explained they recently installed new cable on both express lifts, and because the cable is stretching, or something, a cable tension checking monitor keeps shutting down the lift. I have no idea why it can take several minutes to restart a lift because of that, but apparently the stoppages are forecasted to continue for the next one to two weeks. Well, another successful day at Camelback, and I remembered to include some discussion of skiing in a skiing trip report today. If anyone of you is interested in what I ate, I'll provide full details.1 point

Might have to step up the Sausage Sunday game. Maybe for gaped day we'll do sous vide boneless ribeye. Gotta find a generator, or someone to sit in the lodge and babysit the cooker, lol1 point

Broke my 'No Blue Mountain' streak of probably about 18 months today. Skied with my daughters. Great day. Not too crowded, not too cold.... I agree ROTD was Nightmare> Dream weaver. Barneys was ok, but the middle section kind of sucked. Death cookies on Sidewinder, challenge was picked over by the time we skied it - actually just the top was totally slick. The rest was OK. Skied everything else except paradise and widow maker. real nice day. Really like wha they did with the lower lodge - way more efficient and plenty of coolers! Stuck my head out the front door around 11:30 and looked for you guys, but didn't wander far - girls wanted to get back out there.1 point

Don't know what you all are talking about??? Run of the day was Barney's, since we broke them in Saturday, they blew on them so much they disappeared! Fortunately there were enough bumpers out to cut them in again, save the ice rink under one of the guns. They also blew in the glades next to Barney's, and the snow was as smooth as a newborn baby's bottom! The outside of lower Barney's also had newly blown snow as well. The ROTD was definitely lower Main guns & hoses. We were able to get behind the majority of the guns, albeit with some bush whacking, but that was half the fun!1 point

Don't worry, you'll get there pretty soon. I think you need 800 posts or something, and soon you'll be at my level. I remember back to the gold old days when I was "Good Form". I'll never reach "Gold Medalist" like GrilledSteezeSandwich, but a guy can still aspire to great accomplishments, right?1 point

Hey Salty, your avatar says that you're a GS racer now. I think it's time we talk about some GS skis for the next season?1 point

We should have done NightWeaver. Kicking myself on that one. Limited runs today because Pops and I both had bad icing inside the goggles issues. After third run which was Lazy we had to go inside and use hand dryers to defrost and dry them, and they started icing up after three more runs so we called it quits. Had planned on a short day anyway to spend time with my kids before I leave tonight to fly to Florida in the morning. Rotd for me was Switchback, although conditions of the day were on Widowmaker, since even though we got to it at like 940 it was covered in fresh cord with only a couple carves laid down. Pops said rotd was Lazy, I thought it was shit for the top 2/3 on skiers right, all boilerplate and cookies. He was skiers left and said it was sweet down that side, nice and loose powder on top for most of the run. I couldn't tell because I couldn't see shit out of my left eye at that point. Raised the goggs for safety before the hard right and finished the run with cold ass eyeballs. Back on the snow next Sunday. Sausage Sunday.1 point

That is prime spring break so lodging and lift tickets will be pricey. But I am sure there will be snow by March. I am happy to share buddy tickets with you if you decide to go.1 point

Just had a $5 hamburger. Delicious! I'll admit lodge food can be really good, despite the prices were forced to pay due to convenience. CB is pretty rad today. I plan to do an actual ski trip report later today at the request of Steeze.1 point

By then things should be more filled in...almost for certain. You might even get some pow days..I will warn that's a spring break time so could still be midwinter rates but not midwinter crowds. Other option is jackson hole late this month 40% off for entitled season pass holders until 1/31 lol Its supposed to snow Wednesday Thursday and Friday in summit county. They've been getting some snow.1 point

I tend to check skicamelback.com every morning and at this point I feel like it's my duty to post when CB shuts down lifts. I like CB a lot...IMO CB is the best in the area, but shutting down lifts in light rain on a Sunday in late January is just so...waterparkish.1 point

Here's some pics I took. Had fun skiing with the whole group. There must of been a good dozen AZ/PASR's. It was my last day skiing in PA for the 08/09 season. Moe Ghoul - good to have a few beers with ya Bigdaddyk - you owe me a beer. Camelbeach anyone? View from the lift Nice base Sullivan lift terminal Bra Tree I love driving through the Delaware Water Gap. It's so scenic there, like something out of a Bob Ross painting. Almost surreal. It would be great to go canoeing or rafting down the Delaware this summer.1 point
