I’ve been missing tele Sundays since I broke my binding just before Christmas so I decided to take a last minute trip up to Platty to join the nyskiblog.com Harvey Road birthday beer celebration. A lot of tele skiers in that group and platty rents tele skis. With the chilly forecast I was in no rush to get there and pulled in a little after 9. I was a little concerned when I was about 15 minutes away and the car thermo was at -10* but it ended up being a calm comfy day with bright sunshine and single digits. The first couple groomers I felt pretty confident on the setup but that quickly went to shit when we ventured over to the double. My skills and the rentals were no match for the pitch and 6+ inches of cream cheese chop from Thursday’s snow. Those guys rip so I ran back to the truck to swap skis to keep up. It felt great to be on some soft 3D snow! Ski’d to about 12:30 then took a chili and Mother’s milk stout break and change back to the tele set up. Noodled around off the triple until the legs gave out around 3. Capped off the day with Catskill brewing devils path IPA, thanks Harv! Just arrived. 22 degrees as I make my ascent to the peak of the mighty Mt. Bluelympus. Snow looks good. Crowds are minimal. Rush playing at the base. Even got a complement on my goggles for some reason. Should be a solid evening sesh!3 points

Reason I've been here since 2 is that school closed early. Win for me! Plus I get to ski all day next tuesday since the kids have exams and I don't have to proctor that day.3 points

Seriously jealous I missed a sick NMDW yesterday morning. Overall though Blue is just killing it this season. From the classy move that is the red chair, to seemingly great conditions daily this season to their usual excellent customer service. I'm definitely feeling the love right about now.3 points

10:51AM start not bad. That's the time the Jerrys arrive. This is somethibg id want to try...the alpine slide at Camelback was rad. When I was 9 years old I did it twice with my camp group and I liked it so much that I chose to go there for my birthday and got an all day pass. That's when I first started getting into elevations and vertical drops and what not. Previously it was a foreign concept.3 points

Oh wow... I sent them an email, and got a response today saying that the issue was discussed with the staff, and I can come again to finish the Navigator. Now, why couldn't they just say the same while I was there?2 points

Snow is good at Blue tonight. Sidewinder and Lazy are the best. Scrapey in places, yeah, but the snow improved things. I hear it was freezing rain for a bit this afternoon; was snowing when I got hete at 22 points

Aw, don't mind my griping about the lines. The vip line moves quickly. I'll be at CBK most Friday nights in Jan and Feb with our school ski club. Hit me up if you're there and want to do a run or two; my colleagues and I are old, but we are pretty fucking fun imho. If you don't mention my flu thread I'll buy you a beer.2 points

That's a choice, not your destiny. It's easy to become a competent intermediate; It takes a shitload of work to get off that plateau and become a really good skier. I'm still stuck, and I work like hell. I'm at Blue right now giving my legs a break. Blame the conditions if you want, but look around at all the people styling that icy hardpack. I want to be like them. I look forward to skiing with you someday; we can commiserate!2 points

Platty is the best thing south of VT when there's a decent snowfall. Heck, I'd even take Platty on a pow day over a lot of VT mountains like KMart or Mt Snow. Love that place, great atmosphere and a lot of fun lines in the trees if you know where to find them.2 points

sunday funday at montage was a bright and cold one. we arrived at the lodge around 9 am, booted up, and headed to the upper mtn for some *much needed* warm-up runs. the added extra layers of clothing made me feel a bit like ralphie's little brother from "a Christmas story". it was good to see montage open wall-to-wall. snow was cold and fast. we headed down to the northface and white lightning was off the charts. big firm bumps, but no ice was to be found. lighting was an issue in the AM.....kinda reminded me of how snowbird skis in the AM. the afternoon was spent in the GS race course that was set. could have done with a bit warmer temps but at least there was no wind to speak of. overall fun times had by all...and no frost bite....so that's a plus, lol.2 points

There's always Facebook to submit complaints/suggestions/recommendations. We pretty much know they read them and if nobody speaks up, I'm sure they believe everything's working fine.2 points

Wow, snow was amazing! Heard they haven’t had any snow since Christmas. Started out on Red Lady lift then heralded over to Paradise Bowl. I told my son to go enjoy since I can’t keep up with him, so we parted ways here. Took 3 runs down Paradise Bowl then went over to Painter Boy lift, which I have never been. Some mellow blue runs and terrain park on that side. The powder was better over there since the lift is slow and runs are shorter. Spent the rest of the morning over there. Then a quick 10 min shuttle ride home. This one taken from the chairs at the Umbrella Bar. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk2 points

In your eyes, ok. But lets face it, she didnt buy them there. Why the fuck would they want to stop tuning my skis that i purchased from them, to see if they could fix a ski that wasnt purchased there, and from previous posts, its pretty obvious the bindings/ski should go back to where ever they came from so that they are right/safe/not superglued the fuck back together. The shop at Blue is actually pretty decent, and i have had nothing but good experiences there. i bought my last pair of skis there, and maybe its just me, but i think that goes along way for getting good service. RidgeRacer bought a pair of boots at the tent sale earlier this year. lost a buckle somewhere along the way. Dude took his boot in the back, came out with a buckle on it in 5 mins. Not beyond lame. I'm pretty sure you knew going in you had about a 10% chance of them fixing them. I highly doubt they would want to assume the liability for fixing your skis if it was at all sketchy. Like most everybody else im a big internet shopper for gear, and it hurts the brick and mortar stores, but it is what it is. I would buy another pair of skis from them in a minute if the price was close. I think the shop at blue does a great job considering the fact most people they deal with in there clueless themselves, and im sure that gets old quick. Not sure Buckmans should be placed as high as you might think.2 points

Another rad day at Camelback. I missed First Trax for the second day in a row, since my bed was just too comfortable to get after it. I decided on a late start and arrived at 10:51. Surprisingly, there were plenty of parking spaces available near the Nastar Glen Lodge, so I was pretty stoked about that. First run of the day was on Pocono Raceway. I aimed to practice carving and making wide "S" turns, but unfortunately the race teams took up half of Pocono Raceway, and also half of Rhododendron Glen, which is a trail nearly identical to Pocono Raceway. That was a little disappointing, since it would be better for most people (i.e. me) if they set up two racecourses on just one trail, and then left the other one empty for the general public. Then I moved on to do a few runs on Cliffhanger, which was mad steezy and started forming tiny moguls (good news for all you mogul lovers). I find that moguls make runs unnecessarily difficult, so I then went to other black diamonds, and found The ASP and Marjie's to be in surprisingly excellent shape, a stark comparison to last night's ice fest on those two trails. The Rocket was fairly icy, but The Hump (opened this Saturday) was terrible! Practically nothing but wall to wall ice, with just a few small patches of sugary snow here and there. The express lifts were operating better than last night, with far fewer stoppages. A worker explained they recently installed new cable on both express lifts, and because the cable is stretching, or something, a cable tension checking monitor keeps shutting down the lift. I have no idea why it can take several minutes to restart a lift because of that, but apparently the stoppages are forecasted to continue for the next one to two weeks. Well, another successful day at Camelback, and I remembered to include some discussion of skiing in a skiing trip report today. If anyone of you is interested in what I ate, I'll provide full details.1 point

@skitolive The freezing rain was everywhere (Poconos included). Was short lived then turned to snow. Had absolutely no negative impact on snow conditions if that's what you're needing to know.1 point

Monster 83, 177 for $330. I'd go for the one I tried, i.e. 88, but that comes $200-$300 more no matter where you look. And this looks like a steal, really allowing me to just get it and continue lazily testing/looking for other interesting stuff.1 point

Not surprising though. I've ridden with so many people that want to lift the bar the moment the chair crests the mountain and the landing comes into view. I usually keep my skis on the footrests just to annoy people who want to lift it so soon. The other day I had some girls freaking out as I kept my skis on the footrest to the very last support.1 point
