  1. I got all kinds of shit so if you ever want to try something out give me a hoot. Some of you newbies don't get what this place is about, you don't have to give Blue the proverbial hand job and you don't have to own long stiff skis, you do however have to be cool. Providing good info is +1, good TR's maybe +2, a very funny remark about another person here +1000. it's not a serious place for non-serious people, most of us are actually pretty nice people in person but 1000 threads about hand warmers or some shit is lame boring bs so you gotta spice it up and everyone sort of plays a roll here.

  6. I'll be a blue passholder next year for sure. I'l wind up buying it at the end of this year to try to ride out a few weeks. I planned on being up at blue pretty much every weekend by now but unfortunately life has gotten in the way a little bit. I'm hoping the off snow things slow down soon and I'll be riding the six pack and drinking six packs in a week or two. I didn't get converted by anything but location really. To me my home mountain will always be Montage, there is just something about that place that will always have my heart. Blue is the closest mountain to me, not counting Spring mountain which is 5 miles away. I'm not really looking forward to the commute to and from Blue, but I guess you have to do what you have to do. The upside is that I'll get to see all of you guys on a regular basis instead of just sporadically, and once I've got that pass I'll try to make the full transition to skis.

  8. Soft spring snow is a BLAST. You just have to pay a little attention to waxing carefully. Last year my last ski day was July 3 at Mammoth. Everyone says "the snow is heavy, it's warm, you really need to slow down in the spring." Fuck that. I came here from Louisiana: it's NOT hot here in April, heavy snow makes everyone a hero, and what's not to like about soft bumps and beer on the patio!? I like to finish the season sunburned, broke, and exhausted. And YAAAAAAAAAAAAS to loving winter thanks to skiing!

  9. I've done most of the slides book in the Daks and a bunch of shit in NH. Generally the whites are better but there are more lines in the Daks that can be easily strung together for something interesting. The Daks are almost always an earlier play then whites were the weather is worse into April, even May. If you've never gone before and are more of a safer player I'd say go tuxs for your first trip, you get the taste but there are always lots of people around to help and if you get there and want to spice it up drop over into GOS or go up and run into one of the other ravines. King is my absolute favorite and RMC has a a hut up top which is awesome but King is also a real nasty biatch if you don't mind your P's and Q's. The hike/skin in is rowdy NE touring, straight up straight down dragging pines, icy, rocky and the skiing is the best I've ever done EC BC but it's a steep lader boot that almost always has water running under the snow in the lower choke. What kind of gear do you have ? Have you winter camped before ? Are you familiar with EC touring in terms of being ready for pretty much anything ? I'd answer those questions and then based of that decide how much I'm prepared for and then pick a goal. Daks your out of the LOJ or the Garden Lot, lean-to's or Peggy O, it can be incredibly insanely icy like full on crampons, the weather particularly up high on Marcy/gothics/ Algonquin changes quick but not whites quick. Daks has some good day trip options but unless you live up there my guess is you don't want to drive 10hrs to spend 3 in the woods. If you want to go to the daks I'd say Marcy/Pelky Basin/Angel is a good first trip as it's almost impossible to get lost but it gets as rowdy as you can handle, Trap Dike is a 50degree plus mixed route that is chock full of debris, NF Gothics is legendary and then you get the slides. There are 100's of slides throughout the high peaks, where the vegetation has been stripped from the Canadian Shield mtn rock, after Irene they now run considerably longer. If your into skiing the slides you'll need the green ADK trail book, the drew haus slide guide and somebody to tell you how to get to most of these or a bunch of time spent in the woods. They are longish, generally narrow ramps of snow, the snow is generally a mix of various different dog shits lol but sometimes is incredible. The Daks are rough, the weather is gnarly EC shit like 40mph wind with 33 degree driving rain, approaches are generally flat with lots of water crossings and then straight up some stupid sketch balls drainage that eventually becomes the slide but they are considerably tamer then the whites. Make no mistake, it's the EC, the road may not be that far but the Whites get super nasty and are surprisingly technical. There are endless super steep lines, were talking 40's into the mid 50's way steeper then the daks and a hell of alot steeper then EC resorts. The terrain is generally gnarly balls with long exposed boot ladders with long sections of scrub pines and massive boulders on the approach. It ain't K2 by any means but respect the whites. I always had amazing adventures with truly gnar skiing, we did alot of dumb shit and alot of amazing shit. If you need beta on where to go or how to find out about the weather/snow pack just ask.

  12. It just so happens that the majority of people with any credibility on this board happen to be blue pass holders currently. There are exceptions, like Rummy (elk), Schif (Montage) etc. We could use more of that, but no one is going to blow mountain creek or camelback because you and salty do. 14. When I lived in New Orleans my Mardi Gras crew rolled at 7am & I was on the breakfast committee, in charge of mimosas and bloody marys. Never underestimate the fun of early-morning public drinking. I spent part of the day throwing beads at the evangelical preachers on Canal Street with their hateful signs. Very satisfying.

  15. Yeah. Nice conditions. Actually skied the bumps which is a rarity. Only had time for a short session. Thay plus the lines were backed up from the chair to the turnstiles at both the quad and the six and I honestly didn't feel like dealing with it again. Only saw Matt edge and VT mark. Awesome. It was a bit more crowded than expected this morning as well. Ski clubs are consuming the evening and night sessions now. Also, I took this from my helicopter today.

  21. Before I started skiing, I hated winter. I absolutely detested it. When I went to Hilton Head, SC in January and was able to ride a bike in 40 degree weather with no snow around, it was paradise to me. Now I love winter since I started skiing, and I want it to be cold in winter and warm in summer. These warm temperatures in winter are slightly depressing. Once it gets really mashed potato-ey out there, I might bag skiing and start asking GSSucks which road bike I should get.

  22. Loose granular is the sugary snow that goobers call powdery. Anyway we live in an area of the country with some of the worst skiing conditions so might as well learn to ski every condition..you don't have to be a pro but it's good to be competent in various snow surfaces.

  26. So, @AtomicSkier has mentioned an interesting thing yesterday. Once upon a time there was an open minded group of people that roamed around PA mountains enjoying skiing all over the place. They didn't care too much whether it was JF, CB, BM or perhaps even MC and hated when moderators on a CB forum were removing each and every post that had even the slightest mention of BM. So that group got fed up by the censorship and formed a forum, not unlike this one, where they could talk about anything, but the talk was of course ski-centered. Due to its openness the forum got so much traction that there were hundreds of people following it. At the peak of its popularity members were handed out free tickets to some mountains and then would show up in pretty big crowds, like 50 people a time, were given private rooms in lodges to hang out, and those days were the original glorious PASR days. Then some got married, some had injuries, some just got tired of skiing, the hypnotizing blue light has pushed all but one mountain in the shadow, and whoever was not with the light had to be against it, and chose to stop posting. The remnants of that forum still have all those other mountains listed on it, but invariably the conversation in each and every thread rotates about the light, the true blue light that lights the path for the few remaining ones. Now, I wasn't really paying attention too much, as I was still digesting the previous conversation about JH, and may have gotten many things wrong, but the story just fascinates me. Wow, just Wow, as GSS likes to say.

  31. Hey all, I'm back from a fun night session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived in the lower lot at 645pm and it was jam packed with cars..the temperature was in the low to mid 40s. In the house were TP4, VTMark, Atomic Jeff, Matt Edge, NMSki, Salty, Johnny Law, Eaf, 15 bus loads of kids and about 1,000 people who took advantage of the $12..4 hour lift ticket. PARidge was also in the house but I didn't see him. Liftlines were about 5+ minutes on the six pack and a tad less on the quad which matt edge calls the Razors lift. Conditions were wet loose granular..was pretty pleasent ski conditions. After 4-5 runs in Razors and nightmare dreamweaver I was riding the quad with Eaf, Salty and Atomic Jeff and had that feeling halfway up the lift that i had the beginnings of a stage four deuce..I even had a bit of extra sweat which felt chilly in the breeze so high tailed it down Razors into the men's room which luckily had an empty stall. Did my business..was thoroughly sweaty went back up quad didn't see anybody then caught up with matt edge at the bottom and the rest shortly thereafter. Ended the session with all Razors runs it was the run with the least amount of people..I like that Razors hasn't been closed much so far this season during night skiing times. Guitar was also in the house in his race clinic but I didn't see him. We then went into the lot around 9:15 and had a nice night time tailgate. There was even a badass BMW 5 series wagon with an 8 cylinder engine that revved engine for us and a big diesal truck that was loud AF..I didn't leave until 1025pm and it was raining and foggy on the way home. Was a session that began kind of meh with the crowds but crowds but ended nicely as the crowds cleared out and the PASRs united for full six packs. I also heard there was a either a large drone or small plane at Blue mountain today..that's some weird wild stuff..in the lot there were warm and cool breezes.. JADIP

  37. hero snow last nite! could have done w/o the crowds though.... so our nite went something like this. met with our racing clinic about 7 then headed over to paradise and NM/DW for a while to work on drills and other such non-sense that showed us how much we suck as skiing, lol. we had to be careful with all the jerrys out and about, but thankfully no one in our group got hit. jeff gave us a shout out as we were on NM/DW and he was on the lift....couldn't tell who else was riding up with him. we called it a nite at 9:30 and headed back to the main bar. just after we had a beer or two the rain started. we closed up shop around 11 and headed home. it was 60 degs when we arrived.....womp womp.

  38. When was there ever 50 people at a PASR day? Yes Jack Frost/big Boulder used to sponsor PASR and give the admins free season passes and some vouchers to hand out. Me personally I've never cared for non Blue mountain ski areas in PA..the length of runs at Blue is my baseline benchmark. Shorter runs than blue don't do it for me. Sure I've had some fun PASR days at Jack Frost but I'd never visit there if it wasn't a special social day. Anyway blue mountain is the best and closest place to most of us so it makes sense that most of us have season passes there. It's usually not crowded at Blue so you can rack up 7 runs per hour every hour. Blue is also aggressive about opening early and often is open into April as well. Eaf I know you aren't a bumper but blue is really committed to mogul skiers as well. Blue mountain is one of the few ski resorts in the country that continues to expand. Many ski areas are happy just to stay in business. Anyway for mellow skiers and kids and park rats other places are just fine but if you want to have nice top to bottom runs, fast lifts and a mountain that doesn't flatten after the first headwall blue is really the only local choice. Eaf in person you are very quiet..but online you are quite the squeaky wheel. If you were my customer I'd likely give you directions to one of my competitors.

  47. I've actually only met and skied with Philpug once back when he lived in the Philly suburbs. Philpug was a skisnob and only skied in Vermont or out west and he occasionally would post on PASR. In conversation we discussed Pre skis and I said they were made in Park City Utah and Phil said I was wrong and I said if im right he had to ski a day at Blue mountain and he lost. Phil had a blast at Blue skiing the bumps and spring conditions. I was in Tahoe several years back and tried to meet up with Philpug but he blew me off. Tricia is midwestern she probably doesn't get sarcasm.

  48. Left Philly around 12. Got here around 9, average speed had to be 80 until we hit Vergennes and the roads turned to shit with some black ice and variable crap lying about. Me and the dogs wrestled in 3 foot drifts on the deck and yard. Extremely stoked about skiing this week. Friendlier temps and lotsa pow = JADIP.
