Epic sunny day with PA's finest gun powder skiing. Pulled into the lot and it was packed....I forgot about MLK weekend. Even still, trails weren't too crowded and lift lines were non-existent. Seems like most of the ppl were hanging around the lodge area. After last week's warm spell and r**n, today's offering was a pleasant surprise. Upper mtn was firm cord with a few bare patches here and there. Loads of frozen ice flows show just how much melt they had up here. Upper and lower fast track were open, as was the long haul lift. We hit that up a couple of times and then headed over to the north face. Mtn ops was nuking all the trails over there. Silky soft turns were found in abundance on each trail. Smoke probably had the best snow on it bc ppl were hitting up other offerings. In summary, epic conditions with sunshine....a rarity for PA. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk5 points

When you hit 65, it takes a little longer. Plus I had some surgery in November to fix a legacy of the old raft guiding days. Feels good to get out.4 points

Another weekend up north. I drove up to Whiteface on Friday night to chase the storm. The drive up was sketchy. It was interesting at 7:30am driving to the mountain in 7" with a Kia Forte. I only had to go 1 mile as I pulled off in a parking lot. They ended up with 6-8" after all said and done. It was a gamble with the 2" of rain the day before and 50 degree temps. I went for it and it ended up being a pretty fun Saturday. Some areas were extremely variable, but I'm just happy it snowed. At 1am it was still sleeting. That's actually a great sound to fall asleep to surprisingly. Last night and this morning was brutally cold. I woke up to it being -16 degrees and more snow in the car. The cross ventilation and fresh air is key to a good nights sleep. It makes the car 5-10 degrees colder, but if you're in the proper gear it won't matter. Sucked driving home because I couldn't get my windows fully up until I got into NJ LOL.3 points

Nice soft gun powder and bumps on Boomer and White Lightning made for a great day, despite the cold toes!3 points

Second day on the slopes due to the flu around Christmas. Got there today at 8 and left about noon. Blowing snow on River Shot and Challenge when I got there. Great conditions, Floyd's was well groomed, with no sign of the race team. The bottom of River Shot was ungroomed and had some firm rollers. T bolt was groomed and very fast, Challenge had a few inches of soft stuff over a nice hard pack, didn't see any ice anywhere either. A couple of people being sledded off late morning. The highlight was Challenge glade, buttery soft, flat among the trees, pretty well filled in down to the race shack. No lift lines anywhere, but T Bolt slopes started getting crowded with classes and toddlers when I decided it was time to leave. 17 runs, top speed 52. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro3 points

Hey All, I'm back from another fun day at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 725am and it was partly cloudy and 10 degrees. In the house were Atomic Jeff, Toast, JFDan, Johnny Law, MBike Mike, TP4, Matt Edge, Enjorales Dad, Shadows, Indiggio, SallyCat, Tarponhead, Gary's son and many others. First civilian 6-pack and first run on challenge was pretty nice. Next run nightmare to dreamweaver was pretty good cord followed by Sidewinder which was alright. There was some sort of a pipe issue as evidenced by a large pile of dirt and digging tools at the bottom of Razors. There was also a junior race on Razors and some nasty sliding falls on upper Razors. P-Dizzle was ok..switchback was pretty smooth and lazy mile had some new blown snow. Crowds werent bad earlier but it got busier later in the morning while I was in the parking lot. Good food thanks to Atomic Jeff and MBike Mike and good entertainment and beer as well. I guess I forgot to lock my car and my sunglasses and shiros went missing..if this is prank wars then all y'all will get the last laugh..OK..all in all was pretty good let's hope the snowguns are firing again tonight..JADIP2 points

It's traditionally amazing here at JF. The morning was brisk, 0F according to an outside thermometer on the way to the mountain. Surprisingly many people were already here at opening, but that was just a surge of ski school kids and their parents. It's 10am now and the lodge is still only 30% full. Lots, lots of snowmaking happened over the last 24 hours. No ice anywhere, everything is covered with a nice level and often thick layer of fresh snow. Because of it, it's kind if soft and slow. Glades have been erased, but in place of them there is an ungroomed Challenge with piles of new soft powdery stuff. Life couldn't have been better here this morning. The only thing I'm currently wishing for is that there was a demo program at JF.2 points

I knew you weren't Salty because three seconds had passed and you weren't complaining about lift lines.2 points

I'm well-liked, I think largely because I don't try to be cool. :-) I can't even tell you how often I hear that. Hey, we all bloom in our own time. In 12th grade I quit varsity b-ball and all my other activities and devoted myself to following the Grateful Dead as much as possible. Real good plan, right?2 points

If only I had an ounce of maturity back in HS like Sally's students do. When I was a sophomore I was too busy making "Homey the Clown" references and doing shit like joining drama club to "get girls". Needless to say that didn't pan out. Haha.2 points

I know everyone here is anxiously wondering what was up with my posts from Camelback earlier today regarding why I was waiting for the Stevenson Lift to open instead of skiing. Some PASR posters, like MattEdge, were certainly thinking “what the heck is going on, has Salty lost it”? Well, fear not, because I have a completely logical explanation for today’s events. However, because it’s complicated, I think it’s best to detail this trip report in chronological order. 5:50 am – Woke up to the alarm on Jitterbug to get ready for FirstTrax. However, looked out the window and saw car encased in ice. Checked CB Facebook post and saw notice of FirstTrax cancellation. Reset alarm to 6:50 am. 6:50 am – Woke up again and saw the interstates were treacherous. Decided to cancel skiing and went back to sleep. 8:12 am – Got up, had 2 cups of coffee, watched Gilligan’s Island rerun. 8:56 am – Watched ski lesson video on how to get out of the backseat; decided to possibly go skiing. 9:00 am – Visited skicamelback.com to check out the snow report for full list of trail and lift openings; saw that Stevenson Lift and nearby trails would definitely open at 12:00 PM sharp, meaning fresh cord and open parking spots! Decided to go skiing and started to get super stoked. 9:35 am – Asked Camelback on Facebook what time Stevenson Lift opens 10:00 am – Freed car from ice and started to prepare for some rad skiing. 12:01 pm – Arrived at Camelback. Parked near Stevenson Lift. Was baffled why lift was not running, despite website clearly stating it would be open at 12 o’clock sharp. Before even booting up, yelled to lift attendant asking what time lift would open; now it was scheduled for 1 o’clock sharp. 12:15 pm – Skied 3 runs on Rhododendron Glen, which was narrow, crowded, icy, ungroomed, and had death cookies. 12:59 pm – Headed over to Stevenson Lift just in time to it to open, and to get all the fresh cord. Saw them start to set up the queue ropes, so any second now! 1:00 pm – Was informed that lift would open in 10 more minutes. 1:10 pm – Was informed that lift would open in 10 more minutes. 1:20 pm – Was informed that lift would open in 10 more minutes; at this time, decide to sit by the fire and watch for the lift to open any minute now. 1:45 pm – Realized the lift wasn’t opening in 10 more minutes, so contemplated moving over to the Sullivan side, but realized that would require riding Pocono Raceway Lift, then bombing the run to get to Sunbowl Lift, then standing in line with gapers for 30 minutes to ride a slow fixed-grip lift, then walking uphill and going around a ridiculously unnecessarily long queue at Sullivan lift to ski some more garbage ungroomed conditions. Ditched that idea to wait for the imminent opening of Stevenson Lift, and instead walked back over to Pocono Raceway Lift to ski some more garbage on Rhododendron Glen to watch for Stevenson lift to begin moving. 2:01 pm – Saw Stevenson Lift moving (!) finally and rushed down to wait for the imminent opening. 2:15 pm – Was informed that lift would open in 10 more minutes. 2:25 pm – Was informed that lift would open in 10 more minutes. 2:35 pm – Was informed that lift would open in 10 more minutes. 2:37 pm – Posted rant on PASR to complain. 2:38 pm – Started complaining to fellow patrons in line with me. 2:45 pm – Saw ski patrol go down Nile Mile; was informed that ski patrol needed to go down the hill at least a bazillion more times before they could open it. 2:55 pm – FINALLY! Lift attendant announced that Stevenson Lift is FINALLY OPEN! Only 2 hours and 55 minutes late, not bad!!! After this, I made 6 runs on a freshly groomed Cliffhanger, 1 run on Nile Mile, and 1 run on Pharaoh, which was awful and had a large ice pool right in the middle of the trail. BUT overall, the wait was sort of worth it because Cliffhanger was really, really nice and exceeded my expectations. I also made one run down Honeymoon to see how the Sullivan side was, and it was awful. Overall, it was another rad day, but I was annoyed that how everyone kept telling us the Stevenson Lift would open “soon”, and then made us wait almost 3 hours. Very rad shot of 170 cm RTMs on fresh cord: Waiting for Stevenson Lift to open any second now: Icy pool of death right in the middle of Pharaoh:1 point

JF usually comes through with snowmaking. Glad to hear there were some glades open. I was at Montage with @guitar73 and Ness and the whole North Face was soft powdery blown snow.1 point

Sounds like Montage really got their act together compared to last year. I think White Lightning is the only black diamond in NEPA that I haven't done now, so I also need to get back there sometime. Glad you got some really nice conditions today.1 point
