  3. Skied five runs so far today. It's perhaps the most crowded day that I've ever skied here. I just got in the tram line with the boys and at least a three tram wait so bagged that idea and I'm on the gondola solo with no wait gonna ski Casper area and Teton area. I just don't have the patience to wait 30-40 minutes for the next run. Nicest powder so far was lower cirque...Atomic Jeff got some pictures. I wish the snow reporter would have said 3" instead of 7".

  4. so unfortunate, gives me a sickening feeling. i believe earlier that same morning (might have been the week before) ski patrol was doing sled drills on challenge first thing. I was on the lift with a patroller and passed over a single patroller standing in the middle of falls. On the previous run i had come up quickly on the rest of them spaced out across the trail just below the middle roller which is also somewhat blind on the approach., leaving a single wide passing lane. I (politely) suggested to him that its really not the best idea as they were putting themselves and others at risk, especially since razors was closed for the race. He was a bit rude and replied I shouldn't;t be flying over the falls - someone could have fallen below. I said you don't have to be flying, it's blind at any speed and you may anticipate that there might be a fallen skier but that skier didn't choose to create the situation...

  6. Hey All, I'm back from the first ski day of my 15th trip to Jackson hole. I first went in 2002 and have gone every year from 2005 to the present. We left for the mountain at 740am and were one of the first cars in the ranch lot which has free parking for groups of three or more. We got our tickets..my ticket, JFDans and Atomic jeffs were already purchased through central reservations and NMSki took advantage of the season passholders deal and it was around $450 for his 5 day ticket which would normally be about $135 per day or so. We managed to get to the gondola by 820am and had first civilian gondola with our buddy Dennis who's skied everyday so far this season except two weeks when he visited family in Michigan. It reminds me of the movie Aspen Extreme as TJ Burke was from Michigan as well. Dennis also hooked us up with a baggie of his award winning caramels..I swear he has some sort of side deal with local dentists in town. First run was amphitheater to the thunder lift which was pretty tracked up by the wallets who pay big bucks for early lift privileges with instructors. Then up thunder did left side of grand was pretty untracked with some deep 10" plus spots top left of the run right under the thunder chair. Up Sublette to 10 sleep bowl to the cirque which was my favorite run of the day. Ten sleep was deep and untracked and lots of untracked in the cirque as well although the entrance was a little funky. Back to the Thunder quad which had a full Corral lift line and it wasn't even 10am yet. 7" in the hole sounds like a porn movie but it sure gets the locals out. Then Laramie bowl which was pretty nice on the right side lots of fluff..up sublette which had a short line to bivouac woods which was all good snow..mostly lightly tracked powder then traversed a little bit to the left of rendezvous trail which was prettt rocky and bumped up. We were gonna take sublette to the Hobacks or Alta chutes but that line was a full Corral and I'm an impatient fuck so decided we should ski down to the tram. The tram line was about 30 minutes and I didn't wanna wait in it so I was a Jerry and split up from the boys and walked up to the gondola which had a couple minute wait in the singles line..I skied some of the woollsy woods to the stash park and town to the Teton lift. Up Teton lift and into the apres vous area which didn't have that much new powder and made my way back to the gondola. Up the gondola again. I thought about getting a hot dog or soft pretzel and Gatorade at the top but the lodge looked packed so I skied down under the gondola and some dude took a nasty wipeout and I skied down with one of his skis to him. I was such a nice guy that I helped the old southerner get his red rear entry's into his skis on a 30 degree pitch. I then met the boys over on apres vous. They said the Hobacks were ok..I wanted to ski them today but they'll be there tomorrow and I've skied them at least 50 times before. We skied over to the Teton lift in variable conditions including some ice and nearly bare crowd on the steep groomer under the Teton lift one of the steepest groomers ever. Up the Teton lift and all of us were a little tired and hungry. We we got our money's worth on the last run which included some stash park action, some woods, some crusty snow and lower Sundance which was like skiing in Vermont without the drive complete with a bunch of herp de deeps. I wanted to go to the mangy moose but I knew it would be jam packed so made the executive decision to go to the alpenhof with its slippery wooden steps. The alpenhof was half full. We had a nice waitress who was about 6'3. I had Ghoulash and split a sausage platter with three kinds of sausage and two soft pretzels with Atomic Jeff, had some Arnold palmers which is the most refreshing on alcoholic drink and JFDan and NMSki had Veal Schnitzel sandwiches on bagettes which looked good. All the boys had beer and lunch was under $100 total which is a bargain right at the base of a world class ski resort. It started dumping hard as we were eating and it was more of a graupel as we drove back to town. Was a nice first day..I've had better and I've had worse. Don't let the reports fool you the lower and mid mountain is pretty thin and still lots of rocks. I probably hit about 15 rocks today. Skied 22,000 vert by my calculations...I'm calling today a half powder day as we had a few pow runs but it wasn't as epic as I imagined. Complaining about a half pow day at Jackson hole is like complaining that your model girlfriend isn't a good cook lol..it's Petty like Tom. Im gonna have a beer or two as Atomic Jeff edits the photos from today and tonight is the start of the dog sled race so downtown will be packed I think the Mexican restaurant might be a good option as it's a few blocks from town square and maybe go with NMSki into town for an after dinner drink. Tomorrow MBike Mike and Nastar Glenn arrive and the following day PARidge arrives. Was a fun day and my first non blue mountain day of the season..JADIJH

  8. Good to see you guys out there on the annual trip, you guys are 6-7 PASRs deep which is awesome. Honestly, those pics look better fresh snow wise than possibly all of my 8 lifetime days out there lol. Hope it keeps snowing on you guys. In exactly a month from now, I will be packing my stuff to leave Jackson for a flight home in the morning. Here's to hoping it snows non stop from now til then!

  9. I don't believe that. No blue mountain ski patrollers ski at lightning speed..concussion ted used to ski fast like us but once he became a patroller he became a slow skiing trail whore.

  10. NICE! Would look deeper on RTMs though.

  11. They would also piss a lot of people off and lose business. Years ago the patrollers at Blue had way too much power and would stop anybody they wanted. Now it is more relaxed and tolerable. We're at a good place now. I wouldn't want it to go back to the way they were.

  18. arrived at the top lot about 6:15 pm, booted up and met up with the crew at the top of razor's edge for our first nite of gates for the season. the race team had a GS course set on razor's edge, it was a fair course with mostly moderate offsets and two delayed gates. upper headwall had a nice wide rhythm to it, and the gate set got progressively tighter with some very tight turns just below razor back. there was one massive offset at the top of the last headwall on razor's: i almost took a hip on that one. conditions on course were OK at the start of the evening, but by 8pm the course was very rutted and scraped off, getting faster with each run. legit ice was exposed at each gate, so making those turns got a bit spicy to say the least. I was having trouble staying in the course until our coach suggested i take a wider and rounder path through the course. so, i tried to make shred ted proud with large, sweeping turns. it def helped out, but it still felt like crap, lol. elsewhere on the mtn, the snow guns were blasting NM-DW, lazy, and the lower base areas. NM-DW had HUGE wales and looked very tasty. towards the end of the evening we saw some moron snowboarders sliding down challenge head first on their chests, while other ppl were doing the doug, zooming past them. it's a wonder there aren't more collisions at tru blue. anyhow, it was good to get into a legit GS course again and to hang with the peeps in the clinic.

  19. I'll tell you this it used to be if you skied medium fast on paradise let's say like 30mph and you were straight lining or making good turns..patrollers would whistle at you and if you were doing a 30mph turkey tuck with poles straight in the air they wouldn't bat an eyelash. That's why my turkey tuck is so good back from the days I was in the database. I

  20. The most dangerous skiers are the aggro beginners you mainly see night skiing during the week from school groups. It will be somebodies fourth time skiing and they're straight lining challenge or running into people in the liftline.

  21. Skied this morning at blue. Challenge and terrain run were being groomed. First runs on NMDW and Razors were cookie heavy, razors improved by mid morning. When challenge opened it was post grooming death cookies. Bumps were very slick, every thing else was very good, switchback was excellent.

  24. When I was a new skier, the first time down Falls I took my time and suddenly 5 ski patrol dudes came whizzing past me at lightning speed. If I was in the wrong place, I might not be here right now. Lesson learned: don't dilly dally on steeps, especially if there's a blind spot.

  36. 100% agree. That's the shit I'm talking about. If one of my ski club kids were doing that I would want ski patrol to have a Come to Jesus talk with them.

  37. Yeah right they should tell noobs to get off the black diamonds. I understand no fast skiing on paradise and Burma but mark Miller said I can ski as fast as I want on anything else...

  38. I almost went tip to face with a snowboarder on the flat section right before the lip while night skiing. He fell for no reason, and spun in a funny way and his face was looking right at my left ski, maybe 10 feet away from the lip. I picked up my left ski as high as I could and I couldn't believed I cleared his head.

  40. Apparently it's so crowded today due to the lack of pow days this last month. Last season the locals wouldn't even get out of bed for a day like this. At the top of Teton lift now. Time for run number 7
