Today was a great day. Pow pow! Some high quality big fresh turns followed by some deep trees. Jeff and Doug really have this place figured out as far as where to go when. More of the same conditions tomorrow.7 points

Yesterday's crowds were unexpected. They were worse today, but we were prepared. We were always ahead of the pack, and got more pow than 99.5% people out there today. 5 pow runs at the end of the day including our secret weapon. A top 10 hobacks fun for sure. I thin JFskidan and NMSki are JH fans after today.4 points

January 27th, 2018 Day 2 of 7 Hey All, I'm back from another fun day at Jackson hole mountain resort. There was 7" of new snow overnight with the majority of it falling overnight. Amazing since town received a scant 1/2" or so. We arrived at the Ranch Lot at around 8am and there were a lot more cars than yesterday. High tailed it up to the gondola and managed to be right near the front of the line..not first gondola but third or fourth. We chatted with the same father and son from South Carolina we talked to yesterday and the son was like a 9th grade version of Salty complete with go amateur and short skis. First run was amphitheater to the thunder lift which was pleasent pleasent but had a fair number of tracks thanks to the wallets who poney up several hundred dollars for first track privileges and an instructor. Well you know what wallets you can have that fresh on Ampy..cause we got fresh on the rest of the mountain beginning with the left side of grand which was immaculate instantly that pow day at blu last week was a distant memory..then up ten sleep bowl to the cirque for piles of piles of fresh. I was the photographer today and got some great action shots. Back down to thunder and back to grand for free refills even farther left which were so good..the hoots and hollers were coming from every direction. Back up sublette again and into the Hobacks..since the Hobacks just opened a few days ago the entrance was mellow and once in them we were greeted to large swaths of untracked powder for 2/3 of them. The bottom 1/3 was a little boney and not as deep but didn't have the usual moguls. Down to the base via the union pass lift and I pounded a 20 ounce Gatorade fast enough to get a brain freeze then up teewinot to apres vous and doodled in some woods which were decent but not epic then over to Casper lift via some of the lower Moran woods and up Casper and I made the executive decision to hit up Marmot lift because it's sort of overlooked and I knew some of the woods between marmot and the gondola would be good and I was right. They were so good that we skied them 3-4 times each time tracking up as much possible powder as possible. No bad turns..no underlying crust..just sweetness.. Me and Atomic Jeff then skied to the base via a bunch of random runs and NMSki and JFDan stayed out for another two runs or so. Atomic Jeff and I bum rushed a table of people leaving a full capacity mangy moose and promptly ordered two pitchers of 7.5% IPA. I told the waitress that if she was strict about checking JFDan and NMSkis IDs I would throw her an extra ten dollars and JFDan sure was dumbfounded to have to show ID and he asked the waitress how old he looked and she said 18 lol..and I promptly threw her two sweaty $5 bills lol We all had a nice late lunch and some road sodas and are back at the 49er now..MBike Mike and Nastar Glenn arrive in about four hours and we set the Suburban up to accommodate all six of and our ski gear. I don't know how 7 people will fit when PARidge arrives tomorrow but we'll figure it out and I'll happily take the bus a day or two to accommodate the others..it's my way of giving back to PASR..lol. While yesterday was a half powder day, today was a full pow day and there's no ifs ands or butts that tomorrow won't be the same or even better. These are the best of times in Jackson hole as it continues to dump my favorite drug..no not marijuana..that's a plant I'm talking about snow!!4 points

Tinymoose and I arrived in lake placid today (1/27) for a couple days skiing at whiteface for 2018 ski diva east meet up. Currently, we are chilling at the lake placid brewery with some suds and relaxing from a rather uneventful road trip. Weather upon arrival was less than optimal...low 40's and a drizzle. There appears to be some snow on the ground, but I suspect the off trail is out of play for our time here. I'll use this thread to post updates. Won't be as epic as the Jackson Hole PASR invasion currently underway. Oh well, such is life. On tap for tomorrow is warm and soft conditions, with a chance of light snow later in the day and for tomorrow. Hopefully ulllr will come thru. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

Great morning at Frost, 24 degrees when I arrived, 44 when I left at 10:30. Hit east mountain right at 8, pretty quiet for an hour or so, with just some red and brown coats. Everything open today. Some nice frozen cord, Floyd's and Rivershot were in great shape, the groomers did a fantastic job with this week's weather, not pristine, but still very good conditions. About 9:30 it started getting busy, so I did a couple runs of Challenge glade (headwalls pretty bumped up, but the lower tree section was very manageable), and lapped Challenge and Tbolt until the crowds and ball bearings built up.3 points

Hey All, I'm back from the first ski day of my 15th trip to Jackson hole. I first went in 2002 and have gone every year from 2005 to the present. We left for the mountain at 740am and were one of the first cars in the ranch lot which has free parking for groups of three or more. We got our tickets..my ticket, JFDans and Atomic jeffs were already purchased through central reservations and NMSki took advantage of the season passholders deal and it was around $450 for his 5 day ticket which would normally be about $135 per day or so. We managed to get to the gondola by 820am and had first civilian gondola with our buddy Dennis who's skied everyday so far this season except two weeks when he visited family in Michigan. It reminds me of the movie Aspen Extreme as TJ Burke was from Michigan as well. Dennis also hooked us up with a baggie of his award winning caramels..I swear he has some sort of side deal with local dentists in town. First run was amphitheater to the thunder lift which was pretty tracked up by the wallets who pay big bucks for early lift privileges with instructors. Then up thunder did left side of grand was pretty untracked with some deep 10" plus spots top left of the run right under the thunder chair. Up Sublette to 10 sleep bowl to the cirque which was my favorite run of the day. Ten sleep was deep and untracked and lots of untracked in the cirque as well although the entrance was a little funky. Back to the Thunder quad which had a full Corral lift line and it wasn't even 10am yet. 7" in the hole sounds like a porn movie but it sure gets the locals out. Then Laramie bowl which was pretty nice on the right side lots of fluff..up sublette which had a short line to bivouac woods which was all good snow..mostly lightly tracked powder then traversed a little bit to the left of rendezvous trail which was prettt rocky and bumped up. We were gonna take sublette to the Hobacks or Alta chutes but that line was a full Corral and I'm an impatient fuck so decided we should ski down to the tram. The tram line was about 30 minutes and I didn't wanna wait in it so I was a Jerry and split up from the boys and walked up to the gondola which had a couple minute wait in the singles line..I skied some of the woollsy woods to the stash park and town to the Teton lift. Up Teton lift and into the apres vous area which didn't have that much new powder and made my way back to the gondola. Up the gondola again. I thought about getting a hot dog or soft pretzel and Gatorade at the top but the lodge looked packed so I skied down under the gondola and some dude took a nasty wipeout and I skied down with one of his skis to him. I was such a nice guy that I helped the old southerner get his red rear entry's into his skis on a 30 degree pitch. I then met the boys over on apres vous. They said the Hobacks were ok..I wanted to ski them today but they'll be there tomorrow and I've skied them at least 50 times before. We skied over to the Teton lift in variable conditions including some ice and nearly bare crowd on the steep groomer under the Teton lift one of the steepest groomers ever. Up the Teton lift and all of us were a little tired and hungry. We we got our money's worth on the last run which included some stash park action, some woods, some crusty snow and lower Sundance which was like skiing in Vermont without the drive complete with a bunch of herp de deeps. I wanted to go to the mangy moose but I knew it would be jam packed so made the executive decision to go to the alpenhof with its slippery wooden steps. The alpenhof was half full. We had a nice waitress who was about 6'3. I had Ghoulash and split a sausage platter with three kinds of sausage and two soft pretzels with Atomic Jeff, had some Arnold palmers which is the most refreshing on alcoholic drink and JFDan and NMSki had Veal Schnitzel sandwiches on bagettes which looked good. All the boys had beer and lunch was under $100 total which is a bargain right at the base of a world class ski resort. It started dumping hard as we were eating and it was more of a graupel as we drove back to town. Was a nice first day..I've had better and I've had worse. Don't let the reports fool you the lower and mid mountain is pretty thin and still lots of rocks. I probably hit about 15 rocks today. Skied 22,000 vert by my calculations...I'm calling today a half powder day as we had a few pow runs but it wasn't as epic as I imagined. Complaining about a half pow day at Jackson hole is like complaining that your model girlfriend isn't a good cook lol..it's Petty like Tom. Im gonna have a beer or two as Atomic Jeff edits the photos from today and tonight is the start of the dog sled race so downtown will be packed I think the Mexican restaurant might be a good option as it's a few blocks from town square and maybe go with NMSki into town for an after dinner drink. Tomorrow MBike Mike and Nastar Glenn arrive and the following day PARidge arrives. Was a fun day and my first non blue mountain day of the season..JADIJH3 points

My boots are 65 flex and a size too big, sloppy doesn't begin to describe it. I make do until I find the right pair for me to move into. It's a poor craftsman that blames his tools though. I can cook a hell of a meal with a full range, smoker, full size grill, sous vide cooker, etc. But manage to put out some pretty decent food with a tiny tailgate grill in the lot. Salty, get out of your head and just enjoy skiing. It's supposed to be fun. Pops and I should be at Camel around opening tomorrow if you're gonna be around. You might not like skiing with us though. We usually ski more blues than blacks, don't care about how fast we get down the hill, and even stop halfway down a bunch to chat and let traffic clear. We have fun, tho2 points

Lessons are good. Our instructor has us do multiple drills per session. Some of them don’t resonate with me but after some drills, something clicks. All subtle movements; opening the inside knee when initiating a turn, pushing the inside leg forward when finishing a turn, turning with your hips, keeping your poles forward etc. I highly recommend getting some instruction.2 points

Sugar piles are a typical ski condition in PA..we all ski plenty of sugar I call it mad sweet and low. Yeah it's not as good as packed power or spring snow but better than not skiing.1 point

yeah, take a lesson for sure - don't wait for your trip. As GSS said, keep your hands to in front or you - that get's your weight out front which is ht you want.1 point

everyone has good days and bad days on the hill, and that's OK. just relax a for a bit and try to have fun for a bit so you don't get into your head. you'd be surprised how much that can help. once you can approach skiing in a better mind, then go get lessons and practice what they show you. no matter what, don't dwell on the negative vibes. like gss said, this is a lifetime sport. take it one step at a time and you'll be just fine. also, keep up the "salty" TR's. they're solid gold.1 point

Guitar likes the race clinic because it helps him ski better. I wouldn't call him a racer just somebody who is looking to progress.1 point

Yeah that's the problem. I'm talking about out-of-control skiing, not fast skiing. But maybe that's too much nuance for ski patrol. It shouldn't be; it's really obvious who is out of control and who is not.1 point
