Interestingly enough, there was a late season snow years ago. JFBB was closed, so i went to Camelback. i left lots of fluffy snow in Albrightsville (1800 ft) to find heavy wet sierra cement at Camelback. So, the moral of the story is, Camelback can even fuck up the weather.4 points

Anyway, about today... It's been a perfect day. Infinite visibility, fresh snow all over, perfectly groomed trails, just a little bit cold, around -10C. While I absolutely love my current Atomics 72/172 GS, I couldn't stop looking for what other people were at, and what do ya know, the scoop has changed! There were powder skis, 100% rocketed skis, I've spotted Monsters as wide as 88, there were Volkls around at least a hundred mm, and overall a lot of people clearly came to the mountain for the freeride. More boarders too this time, probably 10-15%. We realized a few days back that lifts actually open earlier than the official 9am, sometimes as early as 8:30, and we've exploited this to our advantage. Too bad the lifts on the upper part weren't as ready as those coming from the road, so we couldn't move to Lech right away and had to ski locally a couple of runs. The upper lift initially didn't even have any chairs on it, and that's how the picture above was shot. Groomers were perfect until about 2pm, but after that they went to hell, I guess because the snow was fresh, and crowds were higher. We'll ski one more time tomorrow morning when snow is forecast again, and that will be the end of it. Oh, one of the pictures below features a tunnel for skiers to cross the road to get from the slope to the lift on the other side. Sometimes these can be bridges too.4 points

Nile mile is slower and flatter than paradise and not as long..if cliffhanger was equal to Razors they'd host collegiate giant slalom races on it. It's not even close to Razors..4 points

There are plenty of free runs here. Some areas are marked as no go on the map, but everywhere else you can dive if you dare. See the tiny specks on the ridge in the first picture? They climb before they go. That could've been you. See happy folks boarding helicopter on the second one? Yeah, I wouldn't dare. The guy on the fourth is about to dive ungroomed red slope on powder. There are ungroomed slope runs and tree skiing too, but trees are there only in the lower part of the mountains. We skied 5 days so far, and will add another two hours tomorrow morning. It's gonna snow again, and so I'm not optimistic. Then we'll hit castles in Germany. The car is VW Golf hatchback FWD with winter tires. Feels glued to the road. Even in the yesterday's storm. We rented chains, but didn't have to use them. Infotainment cluster sucks. And for some reason it throws a warning and a single beep every time I exceed 30km/h apparently due to winter tires. I don't understand the logic behind it.3 points

But she already has a blue pass for this season. And Indiggio that makes no sense having this years pass paid for before the end of last season since you had a season pass already last season. Next thing you're gonna say skiing two different areas in one day counts as two ski days. Double ding for you3 points

Nope. But they have the "First Tracks" benefit, which they refer to as "First Trax" in an effort, I can only imagine, to appeal to the criminally low literacy level of their consumer base.3 points

Went up for the party primarily and to get in a few runs. Got into the lot just before 6pm, after dropping wife up in Summit to start drinking early and get first tracks with M80. Most of the way up it was misting, but getting heavier as we approached the ridge. Coming over the mountain, there was a bit of snow mixing in with the drizzle. Employee lot was chock full of busses, there had to be at least 20 in there, but the slopes didn't feel crowded. Razor's was being worked on by the groomers, which was looking quite thin on the inside corners, but they had a load of snow to spread around. NM had some whales, but a groomer had made a single pass through them, so it's a mess. DW was groomed but closed with a skier/boardercross course set up. BMR had Challenge all to themselves. Snow was compressed by the mist and warmth and was wicked fast, but very carveable. Barney's troughs weren't soft, but weren't hard either, but they too were fast and you had to work to keep the speed in check. After a few runs, retired to the bar where I saw Matt having a beer. Took part in the 80's dress up contest, but got the boot first round. I think some ZZ Top dressed guy with a real beard won it.3 points

February 1, 2017 day 7 of 7 Hey All, Well another great trip to Jackson hole is in the books, my 15th trip here and Atomic Jeffs 11th. We left the 49er at the typical 740am and were in the Ranch lot at 8ish. It was the first and only day we didn't have 3 or more people in the Kardashian Suburban so we had to pay $10 for parking. Managed first civilian gondola with Dennis who talked about hot yoga and hunting for morals with his billionaire friend. As we climbed higher on the gondola we noticed more and more new snow. First run down the ampitheater to Thunder had a couple inches of light and dry powder on top of groomed. Up Thunder and down the left side of Grand which was deep and untracked..I think only Dennis and some of the wallets were in front of us. Then into ten sleep bowl which was partially roped off for the finish of the king and Queen of corbetts event over to the cirque where we had the deepest and lightest powder of the trip right down the center below the big dead tree..totally untracked with chest shots every turn and a few faceshots. Back down to thunder which had a half Corral liftline..up thunder to right side of the grand and in the woods for more untracked. Then up sublette where we rode with a gaper from Vermont who we told to ski Cirque but he was distracted by other already tracked out terrain. He did give me a single hit of weed which was nice but a bit of a tease. Then back to the cirque a little farther over incredible top to bottom fresh again I was totally covered in powder from the chest down when I got back to thunder which had a line extending outside of the Corral. Up thunder and this time on grand only dound found a handful of untracked turns skiers right mainly in the woods and below a brushy area..sublette had a full Corral liftline as well..up sublette and there were several hundred people watching the event that we skied past on the way back to the cirque. By now all the jerrys with go pros and RTMs were in the cirque and even a few lessons..was totally tracked out except the far left that we skied which still had a few pockets of fresh and surfy snow. Since we got 7 fresh pow runs in a row completing a great trip I had no interest in skiing tracked up snow with the masses so took nez perce down gros verte which got progressively worse. I stopped to take a piss about 1,000 vert above the base and there wasn't even an inch of new snow on top of the refrozen crust off trail. Down into the village...shuttle to the car to deboot then shuttle back to village and a nice Italian lunch in the hotel terra. Was a great trip with fun PASRs all of whom Jackson hole first timers. Was fun showing everybody around and as I always say anybody who wants to ski Jackson hole with me is welcome to. It's my way of giving back to the sport. Atomic jeff made a great chauffeur, JFDan loved the perder, NMSki had a permanent smile for five days, MBike Mike loved the 3D snow, Nastar Glenn has more energy than anybody I know and PARidge loved the Hobacks and expansiveness of Jackson hole..I'll savor the afterglow of a great powder day and great trip this afternoon and post my annual The Good, The Bad and The Ugly in the coming days. Thanks everybody for reading along at home and giving out likes!!!3 points

I would go to Camelback for 2 reasons, altitude and latitude. CB is about 2000' at the top. Blue is 1400' at the top. CB is farther north. Plus I get bored skiing the same place all the time. I like Blue better but CB has a lot of variety to offer as well. I never find Superbowl Sunday to be that much less crowded than any other Sunday. The game doesn't start until 6:30 so most people can leave at 4:00 and still be home to watch the game.2 points

last nite was a mixed bag of weather for the race clinic: rain, sleet, and then finally snow at the end of the evening. tinymoose and I arrived at the upper lodge at 6:30, booted up, and met with the crew at the racing office. no gates tonite b/c razor's edge was closed for grooming. they had apparently blown yuge amounts of the best snow on that trail. NM-DW was also closed for grooming. we made our way over to the 6-pack just lapped that all nite long. worked on inclination and angulation, and applying and releasing edge pressure thru different parts of the turn. the coaches had us try to do all these skills in the "right" or "textbook" way or time thru each turn, and then had us do the opposite. in this way, the coaches were showing us a range of feelings produced by these skills and the application of these skills, in hopes of giving us tools to employ as we saw fit at any point in our skiing. snow surface conditions were hero, but one had to be careful of catching there edges. I had a spectacular wipe-out on challenge, lol. last run of the evening was down main street/barneys. there were a couple of turns to be had in barneys, but for the most part it was total crap. après was at the upper bar where we all had nachos, wings, and buffalo dip. good times had by all.1 point

To me the main things Blue has on CB are more trees and bumps. Main thing CB has on Blue is easier to avoid lines. Also generally find a friendlier vibe at CB. I agree Nile is pretty much like Paradise (minus ski slow warnings) and Cliffhanger like Razor/Challenge (though I prefer thst it curves a bit instead of being a straight shot, and don't miss the longer runout at Blue). I believe the headwall on Hump/Asp/Rocket/Marge are actually steeper than Cliffhanger, as well as narrower. But the steep doesn't last as long.1 point

Go to Bolton one day anyway. It’s one of the few VT mountains with night skiing. They also do a one-pass grooming in the afternoon. Cool old school lodge. You’ll find powder in the woods there days after a storm.1 point

If you got a "wax and sharpen", they didn't likely do anything to your bases other than brush them out and wax them; hopefully you got a hand wax at that price. Even so, that's still a crazy amount of $. Sounds like maybe they're not such good people...1 point

Yep, that's how I am. I like hanging out with people to an extent, but I truly enjoy the independence of doing things myself. I made a solo trip out west for 3 weeks and was never bored or felt the need to have to drag someone along with me to do things I'm interested in and they're not. If I'm in the mood I talk to people, mostly fellow tourists. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing things alone sometimes, even though some people might think it's odd.1 point

They're not hard core 80s skiers unless they're wearing Cubco bindings with a strap around each ankle. #nobrakes Bonus for being a kid wearing a nylon snowsuit. No friction + skis attached throughout fall. That was skiing. Also why my parents and aunts and uncles had tons of kids; probably we weren't all going to make it. #Darwin1 point

At least at least a lot of guys like to ski. Try being a woman on the down side of 50, and see how many people you have to ski with! I am actually starting to meet some women my age that ski Blue routinely during the week.1 point

Nah, not here. Almost nobody is skiing piste on anything wider than the lower 80s. You probably freerode a lot with a guide, judging by your thread, and that's a completely different story. The gapers must've all learnt how to speak German, as it's close to impossible to hear a conversation in English on the lifts. Many don't speak English at all. So brush up on your German skills if you care about not looking like a gaper in Arlberg in between snowstorms. Those extra mm of waist won't help. Anyway, today we didn't venture too far from the home zone, and were able to find a cluster of trails that remained in pristine condition throughout the day. The key was to avoid migration paths and stay on more challenging terrain. Even though crowds are very light, trails that are parts of some route see more people that tend to slide more, and that destroys the snow. Unfortunately the weather is changing. It's gonna snow tomorrow, and the weather was already party cloudy to cloudy today. When it gets cloudy, you can't see a thing here, and skiing slows to a crawl. Literally, can't see a thing. Haven't experienced this before, so am a little worried about tommorow. I ditched my Vantage 83mm in favour of Doubledecker Redster GS 72mm, and couldn't be happier with the switch. I thought I was okay on Vantage until I've tried Redster. Sooo easy at speed, slicing through rough snow like it's not there, grippy on scraped slopes and trivial to start/switch turns. My friend is on Redster SL, and while it's great in the mornings, it's getting pretty tiring in the afternoons. Not on these GS. No new pictures today, as the Alps remain as beautiful as the were prior this week. The snowman is real snow.1 point
