3-4” so far of soft fast blower pow on top of the groomed out 3” they got yesterday. Coming down hard. 1-2”/hour for sure. The gondubie is legit. Gonna hit the quad soon because the terrain here is limited. Can’t upload pics yet. Best day of the year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk7 points

Been up here for over a month and don't wanna go back to PA. Heading back to PA Sunday to drop off Mrs. Ghoul, dad's gonna visit for a few days midweek, take care of some biz and mail, then return with the hounds for an extended stay on my journey to 100. Smuggs has had 178" so far and we are in a good storm cycle currently. Pow days have been plentiful. Tomorrow should be off the hook again. Burned a lot of calories and brain cells since October recovering from the water damage and pushing myself to get a lot of other delayed projects completed. House is looking great, I finally got the basement checked off and am pleased with the end product. My hands get so cramped up from working, I've dropped my poles on several occasions. Been pounding Aleve and Celebrex when needed and hitting the pool to shore up some foot issues and achy joints. Next time up, the kitchen is finally back in the cross hairs for some demo work. Got my crop going, and paid homage to JH and the Cowboy bar with some saddle stools. Picked the saddles up for $50/pc at a yard sale 5 years ago. Finally got to do some fun stuff in the shop for a change. Life is good, we're blessed. I put the old toilet outside the garage door with a sign on it, "Flush twice, it's a long way to the White House" and an american flag upside down. Going to take a look at a bar/restaurant that closed down last fall for financial reasons on Friday, possible sheriff's sale on it for steezy fire sale price depending on encumbrances and debt. Less than 50% chance of moving on it, but ya never know........did I mention that it's gonna be deep again Thursday?4 points

What a spectacular morning! The snow really accumulated quickly, and from 8:30 to 11, it was mega fun. My friend Brooke had some car problems and didn't arrive until 11, so we spent about two hours skiing in the rain. It wasn't torrential but it was more than just showers. The snow was soft but really heavy; the kind of snow that shows you (well, me) that you're not as good a skier as you think.4 points

Day Four: Non-ski day, or “On the fourth day he rested” Didn’t do a thing except sleep in, sit around, and make dinner. This is about all I have for today: Also pulled the files from my GoPro and my old one I gave my dad, pieced together a pretty boring edit; we had poor camera angles but hope to get better footage and pics the next three days: https://youtu.be/ShGJqsLRod04 points

Hey All, I'm back from a fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived in the lower lot around 7:50AM and Atomic Jeff, Indiggio and SallyCat were also in the house..the front end thump began on the drive up and the heavy snowfall persisted until just before 11am. The six pack was not running so the quad was the lift of choice. First run was about 1.5-2" of fresh snow on an immaculately groomed Razors..was nice skied it 2-3 more times. Then over to Main Street which only had a few tracks on it so we had to go back for repeats and somewhere early on I skied a run on Switchback where the right side was completely untracked..of course I had to get the goods on X-ing a few times. Indiggio and atomic jeff did a few runs on the Main Street chair to get upper widowmaker. I didn't see the Main Street chair moving so I continued to the six pack and did a few runs by myself and had one lift ride with sallycat who couldn't believe how nice it was. Free refills were the real deal this morning and a little after 1030am humongous flakes were falling. Indiggio was even able to ski almost back to his car. As me and atomic jeff chilled in the lot having beer and soft pretzels the snow finally changed completely over to sleet and by the time I was in cherryville it was pure freezing rain. I believe at least 4" fell at the base of Blue before the changeover and maybe a little more up top. The lack of crowds made things great and untracked well into the morning. I believe Atomic Jeff took a picture of the top of Main Street from 923am to show how few tracks there were. A shame nightmare to dreamweaver wasn't open and sidewinder was groomed and opened mid morning..JADIP!!!2 points

Hahahahahaha. For real. So many abandoned stuff along 28. Old religious summer retreats, restaurants, the weird rocket ship place. I’d head that way in a zombie apocalypse for decent off the beaten path shelters.2 points

At Piecasso living it up. Very attractive waitresses. Ordered a Coke, garlic knots and the stromboli with spicy meat. Once I get back to the hotel I'm doing nothing, maybe relax by the fire with a decaf coffee and read some Jack Reacher in between PASR posts and watching the snow.2 points

It was likely the longest stretch of untracked runs I ever skied at Blue. Wasn't slop when we were skiing.2 points

Today should be rad because there was a dusting overnight, and the freshies will accumulate throughout the day. I'm worried about getting buried in the perder tomorrow and ski patrol not finding me until all the snow thaws out in May.2 points

We have to take what we get at Blue, but I too prefer natural bumps as they're far more fun. Skier-made (say Alta's) are the very best, as the separation between turns is more consistent.2 points

I love when they bring us all in and then release 300 children into an active storm.2 points

Day 3: Today was another excellent day at Stowe. Pregamed before breakfast by getting the car loaded, and then had breakfast at 7:30 sharp. This time woofed down coffee, Cherrios, 2 glasses of OJ, sausage, scrambled eggs with Tabasco sauce, and a blueberry scone. Then ate a slice of bread on the walk to the car. Chewed as fast as I could and made it to Four Runner quad only 5 minutes after 8, which was fine because the line was non-existent. Guess everyone took the day off. First run of the day was Lord to North Slope, which was much easier to ski today as it was groomed overnight. Then I headed to the gondoobie just because it's fun to ride the gondoobie. Got there at 8:20 and there were about 20 people in line who were also there just for the gondola ride. The line gradually got longer and at 8:30 I was crammed in with other 7 people which sucked. Then fellow riders started smoking MJ, which was not cool because they closed the window and I got some second hand. My first run on Gondolier was probably the best run of my life. Since the gondola was shut down yesterday, all the powder was untracked. I skied down it like a badass playing my favorite song Hard Times by the Jetzons, and made some awesome turns in the fresh powder at a high rate of speed. Skiing next to the gondola made it an even more memorable run and got me so stoked for skiing, a feeling I hadn't had in weeks. I felt like the best skiier on the mountain. Then I skied into the gondola RFID reader with my skis on and turned into a complete gaper. Hopefully toast won't use the gaper tag on this thread as a result. The rest of the day was a lot of fun. Made a few more runs on the gondola side, then ran Spruce trails for a while until my 10 am lesson. After the lesson and lunch at the Cliff House Restaurant, made some runs on Upper Perry Merill (???), Cliff Trail, Lower Cliff Trail, then over to 4 Runner to Lord, Ridgeview, Toll House, and Easy Mile which was lame-o! Also tried a few blacks today which weren't as difficult as I thought they'd be. Hayride was a piece of cake and would be a blue at another mountain. Upper Nosedive was full of moguls so was more challenging, but I made it down ok. Another gaper moment was in the 4 Runner line when I had my skis pointing in a V shape to move forward, and then my left ski took out the "Alternate" sign and I fell. Took a minute to get up and the lift attendant yelled "jerry of the day". Just kidding, they are very professional at Stowe, he only thought that.2 points

I like natural bumps cause you can ski all over the place..true seeded bumps you stay in one line as switching lines is reserved for the pros and the stupid2 points

DAY ONE: Sunday we decided to take it slow and get acclimated to the mountain and the altitude. The plan was to ski at least a green run then a blue run off the gondola to get a feel for the ranking of runs and the altitude, and then make the decision about moving up to the summit. As it turned out, we haven't had any issues with altitude, and I've found that the green/blue/black ratings have been nearly on par with the likes of blue, with the exception that most all the blacks seem to be ungroomed. My dad and I had planned to be out for first gondi, and were, but ended up waiting for our suitemates to get out there, which took much longer than it should have. By the time they made it out it was nearly 9:00 and that coupled with a short shutdown meant the line for the gondola was hella long. We instead headed over to the Christie Express and took that to up, and skied down Boulevard to YooHoo and took the Thunderhead express back up to the Thunderhead lodge on the gondola level. We skied down Why Not, which was a really flat cat track like trail that in hindsight we should not have bothered with and really burned the hell out of my legs. 2/3 of the way down, at an intersection with Vagabond, a blue cruiser, we all agreed to abandon Why Not and ran out Vagabond. We took the Thunderhead back up and decided that since we enjoyed the run down Vagabond at the end we would take that trail down from the start. We had a great run down and I was really digging the conditions, as was my dad. It was nice to not have to even think about whether we were going to hit ice, or even scraped off hard spots. Even when the trail was bumped up, the tips just blew through the snow or the skis just slid right through it. We took the Thunderhead express back up and popped into the lodge to use the restroom and get some water. We all decided that we weren't having any problems with the altitude so we were going to head to the top and check out the Sunshine area. After a near-altercation with a snowboarder who decided to sit down literally in front of me in the only 30 inch opening to get to the trail head, (he took exception when I said "Why would you stop there?" after running into him and tried to pick a fight, but I just skied away) we headed down Spur Run to get down to the Sundown Express and took it up to the Sunshine Peak. Once there we skied down the green in that area, Sundial to Rendezvous Way, breaking off to ski Sunhine Lift line and took the South Peak lift to the Rendezvous lodge and had lunch. I had a Curry bowl with Shrimp, green curry, brown rice, shrimp and veggies. It was delicious, a bit pricey at about $17 with tax, but we got $10 per day on-mountain food credits as part of our group so for $7 it was a bargain. The other three decided they had enough for the day and planned to head back down, but I was unwilling to go down without checking out some more of the terrain in the Sunshine area, so I stayed out for a couple more runs. I skied down a fun short blue, Spike, and took the Sunshine lift back up. Close to the top I had my favorite "moment" of the trip to that point when the chair came out of some trees to reveal a massive, wide, intermediate grade slope stretching seeming as far as I could see in both directions. I knew we were going to have a lot of fun skiing this area the next day. I skied down Tomahawk back to the Sunshine lift, and then decided to head down so skied High Noon all the way down to the Elkhead lift. While skiing down to the gondola level, I saw a sign that said "Tired from skiing? Take the gondola down!" and my legs being pretty beat at this point it sounded like a good idea. But then I decided that I didn't want to end my first day with a gondola ride, so I headed over to ski down Vagabond again. About 1/3 of the way down Vagabond, I realized I wasn't on Vagabond, but had dropped in one trail early on Rudi's Run and ended up on a trail called Lightning. I didn't have any trouble with the run, but was disappointed to realize my tired legs would have a much longer cruise back on a much flatter cat-track like green called BC ski way to get back to the base. For some reason, while making the many turns I need to to stay in control on steeper terrain burns up my quads, very flat terrain just kills me even more. And I feel it more in the hips than the quads even. After a torturous glide back to the base, I managed to find the little trail that lead back to our condos and skied (with a little skating/poling) right back to the balcony of our unit. I popped out of the skis and walked around the front and dropped skis and poles off with the ski valet. Went in and slapped on the bathing suit and went to soak in the hot tub for about 45 minutes. Then about 25-30 of the 33 on the group trip jumped on a shuttle to head downtown to the Tap House where we had a section of the dining room reserved to watch the Super Bowl. It was a great atmosphere to watch the game in, with so many Eagles fans. Great game, and congrats to the Birds. Service at the restaurant was slow and disorganized, but somewhat expected since they only had 2 waitress working the entire section with 30 of us plus about 10 other Eagles fans that happened to get the tables we didn't have. Took the shuttle back to the condo and hit up the hot tub for a second session, great party atmosphere going on. Light snow was falling, and I was really looking forward to hitting the mountain the next day.2 points

Possibly. Not sure which trail it was. Excellent news. Breakfast will be served tomorrow at 7 am!! I plan be out of the hotel no later than 7:15 and will try to be in line at 4 Runner for 7:40 like you said. Today at breakfast both of my cheeks were stuffed with bread and I couldn't talk. Wish I could eat breakfast faster but couldn't chew efficiently enough. Maybe I'll just chug a bottle of maple syrup tomorrow.1 point

Glad you got to enjoy the powder today. I've been taking my skis in the lodge every day to boot up. Probably being a gaper, but just too lazy to lock them outside and no one's yelled at me yet.1 point

Actually cleared it off 10 minutes ago and now in Mansfield Lodge. About 4-5 inches on it I think. I'm exhausted so called it quits for the day. Got 33k vert today a world record so I'm happy. Tomorrow I think after 9 am I will spend most of the day on Spruce and Sensation areas, but will definitely get some first Trax off 4 runner and Gondalier trails. I'm spoiled now and dont even want to think about skiing ice, boiler plate, or mashed potatoes or slush.1 point

Keep your hands up and forward. The moment you put them down at your sides, you're transitioning you mr center of gravity rearward, hence riding on your heels. Always keep your weight on the balls of your feet and your shins engaged with the tongue of your boot. Keeping your hands up and forward helps maintain this position.1 point
