Hey All, I'm back from another fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the bottom lot around 725 and it was 34 degrees and overcast with fog on th upper 1/4 of the mountain. In the house were Atomic Jeff, JFBBDan, Matt Edge, Johnny Law, Indiggio, Tarponhead, MBike Mike, GSSucks, Ty, Nastar Glenn and many others. Firat run on challenge was great packed powder..maybe a little sticky on the flats but pretty nice. Sidewinder was a carpet early on very nice and Switchback third run was a hoot and hollering good time. I repeated Switchback several more times. Per usual Main Street was good on top not bad but choppy on bottom. Lazy mile was pretty nice fast enough and good snow and grooming. I tried barneys bumps which were hot and cold. Didn't ski the challenge or chute bumps. In the lot there was a cool wrapped truck with x man or some sort of green action figure..I'm out of touch like my fourth favorite Hall and Oates songs. Had some parking lot beers..cheered on PASRs own monoskier GSSucks and drank more beer.10 points

Yesterday we skied only Whistler. Spent some time on the Peak Chair and that zone down to big red. Spent some time in Harmony and Symphony. Skied some pretty good chutes in the Horseshoes and whatnot. Ryan's first bowl was Bagel Bowl which was a bit crispy but still good. We found some really good snow on certain faces. Still not expecting any snow, but should be party or mostly sunny. Today we spent almost the whole day on Blackcomb. We found the best snow over on the glacier and spent most of our times over there. I don't remember all of the runs and lifts that we took like rain man Doug, but it was pretty legit today. Found some good steeps, and lots of stuff to jump off of. Ryan has been crushing it as well. Tomorrow we are probably heading back to Blackcomb and skiing 7th Heaven area to start. Tonight is cougar night at one of the clubs, so that should be fun. Pics coming soon.6 points

Very strange day today.... Bumps were actually pretty good, which let to 3 women asking Tarpon to teach them how to ski them, which led to some parking lot tailgating and camaraderie. I'm still reeling from this (or maybe it was the parking lot beers), as stuff like this just doesn't normally happen. Anyone notice any weird, space-time continuum disturbances or anything?3 points

Did you derive this part from the map, aerial shot or tea on the bottom of your cup? True skiers will never be seen at MC for they'll feel like cows on ice on Granite Peak. Which is indeed icy.2 points

You just need to buy an alpine touring setup..maybe mount some marker Dukes on your Elons..Toast can help you with skins...that would be badass.2 points

I was just thinking $100 per night lodging and $100 per day lift tickets..maybe a little less than that but then a lesson as well and waffles, mussels, salad bar, mcdoogles, calzones, wings, Capri sun, coffee and new gloves..plus gas, tolls, ferry ride...The ben and jerrys tour and seeing the mural in Burlington with me on it essentially free. I don't really think about food costs on a ski trip because when I'm at home I also spend money on food..not as much though.2 points

Crowds? What crowds? Compared to BM on a weekend, those were empty slopes. Seriously though after seeing the parking lot at 8:30am I was fearing that the two slow lifts would be a bottleneck, but to my great surprise I haven't really noticed this. We've never been to Montage before. Bought some vouchers from the Sally's thread and initially wanted to spend them on the blackout weekend but after seeing weather forecast decided to go there today. And didn't miss! Not a single raindrop all day until 3pm. The mountain is funny, DD slopes are indeed DD, especially that White Lightning, but blue slopes deserve at most green rating. Initially we didn't like it, especially since the long haul lift didn't work, and we got stuck on DD slopes. Then it turned out that the long haul lift is also slow as hell, and it was taking 13 minutes to ride it... And people are complaining about connecting lift on MC Really, if it was an express, things would've been much, much better. Finally discovered not very trafficked and interesting trails and looped them. I think they were Fastrack and Canonball. The first one is remote, so not too many people, and Canonball is just an interesting sequence of drops with flatter parts in between. Snow was wet and spring, holding well. By 1pm some bumps formed and ice spots appeared. I got the feeling that snow conditions can really vary at Montage. The coverage on the top part looks thin, plenty of dirt spots here and there, and there were also talks on the lifts about some trails closed during the week. I'd love to spend more time there, the lower part of the mountain in the forest is quite beautiful, and the crowds are thin, but the commute is too long for us, driving 2:30 one way is only borderline worth it.2 points

Wow. That's not usually what you read after a ski trip. Salty props for at least making the trip as well as your honesty.2 points

Some old-school bragging: I saw Phish perform that song at a little bar in Syracuse called "Hungry Charley's" in the very-early 90s. Everybody in the crowd hilariously did randomly-timed pogo dancing throughout the song. It's one of my very favorite memories.2 points

Snow was fairly heroic mid mountain down. Upper shady spots had some pow preservation going on. I swapped out bindings and skied on the Coombas which are my shortest fat ski and they did nicely on some glade runs. I skied 3 runs and called it a day. lift lines were a bit long and my body is beat up. skiing with a taped left index finger knuckle and joint, taped big left toe, and a golf ball sized ding on my right shin when it kissed the steps while I was hauling firewood upstairs. Due to weather, we'll be leaving for PA on Mon or Tues instead. More snow and a shot at some icing.2 points

We really should be more specific. RTM81 is a jerry ski, while the RTM84 approaches a frontside carver. 171 length is still too short though.2 points

You weren't at Blue when Beau was in charge of traffic control for the six pack. He was a legend and his short pole and ability to count to 6 in multiple combinations made him great at his job. You six come on out..5 and one..4 and two singles..4 and 2..3 and 3...3,2,1..2,2,2 and my favorite 6 singles..I even ate one of his famous Jell-O shots a few years ago at the end of season party and didn't trip balls 🏀2 points

Great Eastern is probably the best trail on the EC, when it's empty it's 3k vert of just super fun arc arc arc ok now lets look around and back to arc arc arc. Lots of skiing tips and shit (btw learn how to put your boots on or buy a WC horn because nothing says I don't know what the fuck I'm doing like some random dude grunting like he's an 90lb asian women pushing shaq's baby out) but nobody asked you the most important question. Are you fucking feeling this shit man ? Lets get real, your a great skier for only skiing two years but in the overall sense you ski like shit. Now that's cool because you've only been doing it two years but before you left you had lost your mojo no ? No emotion, no zest and you'll be the worst skier of all time which is one that lacks passion. Do you feel the passion ? When you stood up top at K1 and you clicked in were you half way to midnight ? When you got to the bottom of gondolier, before you tried to ski into the gondy did you want to ask the cute waitress if you she ever got the Cleveland steamer from a rural PA state worker at the Mansfield Inn ? You should have because that means you got the passion, lots of peeps will spend their lives on X&O's taking lessons and get no where because they lack the passion to giv'r. You took risks when you went glades but you jerry'd right out of it by taking the skis off. Your a young man to be wound so tight, slip it, step it, shit ride your poles like amateur night at Delilahs but keep the skis on and figure out a way down. You learn alot of shit fucking around in EC woods. If you found your passion back then this was a successful trip.................................... plus get another pair of skis if you want to run untracked in the woods, can't catch a 500lb tuna on a mickey fishing rod with a bobber.2 points

this board generally prefers skis with stiffer flexural stiffness. i wasn't sure if toast was agreeing with me or being sarcastic, as his signature suggests. to me, ski stiffness is not a "one-size fits all" thing...as others have suggested on this post. regardless of snow surface condition, if one can't control and work (i.e. bend any portion of a ski at will), then that ski isn't the optimal fit for said person. also, as you allude to eaf, ski flexural stiffness at some point becomes a personal preference. so there is that...lol.1 point

You're right and I apologise. There isn't much going on in the BM section. A teaser pic of a monoski, a typically exhaustive list of all the lodge inhabitants and a meteo of trail condition. In comparison Montage rocks today.1 point

One unbelievable and yet typical thing from that thread is the never ending comparison to the True Blue. Everybody who has common sense is saying that BM is a murder scene on a weekend, and yet "but if you leave before 10... but if you squeeze yourself to the far left after the gates... but if you're a VIP... but it's an express..."1 point

the lifts are what keep the trails uncrowded. also good time to do the live TR's.1 point

The blues would be ideal to teach someone how to ski. Everybody says that Shawnee is the best mountain for a newbie, but Upper Montage is better. So wide and easy... Shawnee's Lower Pennsylvania is just too narrow for a newbie to ski comfortably. With that said, Shawnee's express is hard to beat. People can talk all they want about slow lifts building up anticipation for a good run, but when you ride up for 14 mins and ski down only 1-2 mins, it's a disaster. You die of boredom on the way up, and if on the way down you run into a crowd and have to stop, the whole run is wasted, and now you have to wait until you crawl back up again. Shawnee, as small as it is, and as simple as it is, is unbeatable due to its fast lift. You zip up and down, and every time when you ski down, you still remember very well how the previous run was, so that you can adjust your skiing, pick better path in a given spot, etc.1 point

Salty you don't sell a ticket in the ticket line. You sell it in the parking lot. You're lucky you didn't get in trouble selling by the ticket office.1 point

QFT! Beau was the best. Just like Blue to shit-can a good, hard worker. Sometimes you have to look past the quirks, everyone's got em. I'm way too scared to try any of his Jell-o shots. I want to get home without seeing strange things crawling out of the air vents and such.1 point

It DOES suck to suck! Especially when you're pretty clear about why you suck but you cant figure out what to do about it. Skiing well is fucking hard. Damn good thing it's fun and outside and always beer-adjacent.1 point

Good post. Not sure what a WC horn is. My enjoyment of skiing varies. Today it was pretty good but not excellent like Tuesday. Definitely better than 2 weeks ago. My interest depends on how I'm doing. If I'm skiing like a bum then it's not fun, regardless of what mountain I'm at and what the snow is like. If I'm skiing excellent like I do sometimes then it's the funnest thing in the world. IDK. I always try to get that fun feeling but I realize you can't force it and it just has to come naturally. But lately if I'm not as into it, I just try to take a step back and enjoy a long cruiser and the passing scenery at high speeds and try not to take it or anything too seriously.1 point

Good. I just put those on my skinny all mountain skis. Pivots are always a solid choice but I’ve always had Look/Rossi SPX models and they’ve treated me and my knees well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point
