What a great surprise today was! They reported 2”, but it continued to snow all day. Skied like 5” on much of the mountain. I guess I’m the luckiest son of a bitch in the world, but today was the first rope drop on highline ridge and west basin hike to terrain. Highline was only open through Juarez and west basin only through west blitz trees, but I was probably the 20th person to ski Juarez this year and it was really deep. Bottomless. I hiked once more to do Juarez again and made 2 hikes to west blitz trees which was so nice but not quite as bottomless. Played around off of bobs, moes and walkyries again. Skipped all the lift 8 bullshit. Word is more terrain opening tomorrow as they are looking at another 5-8 inches tonight, although it never really stopped snowing today aside from a few quick breaks in the clouds. I only brought my all mountain skis because conditions were expected to be so bad. Having fun in the 3D snow on my skinny skis!! Here are some scenery pics: Shots of Juarez and west blitz: Action shots Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk7 points

Interesting day at Taos but really fun. First, man are they hurting for a base. I’ve never seen Al’s with so much shit poking through in the 30 years I’ve been going to Taos. Neither of the ridges is open and part of the backside is still closed. The good thing is that 7 inches fell at the base and was much more up high. I started out on the frontside and skied lift 8 for a while when waiting for the backside to open. About half the runs were left ungroomed which made for some nice boot to knee deep perder turns. I kept going up lift 2 to check if the backside was open and on my third time up I noticed the rope was gone and proceeded down honeysuckle. Got probably 3rd tracks down walkyries bowl and because I know some local tricks, I knew that Bobs would be good if it was open. After coming down walkyries, I snuck around lift 7a’s bottom shack and entered Bobs run which was knee deep and I had first tracks. I followed bobs down under lift 7 and had untouched powder the entire length of lift 7. I did that routine 3 times and was exhausted. After a little break I searched the sides of trails for what was left. I saw some prep going on on some of the upper steeps which look almost ready to go. Possibly some snow for Thursday so my fingers are crossed. My pics aren’t great, I wasn’t stopping to take off my gloves in the morning and it was cold as shit all day. Bumps were pretty awesome. Top set on Barney's were meh. Bottom set $$$. Nightmare was good but to short so only did once. Bumps on challenge got real small ??? Massive sublimation going on. Snow got better as day transitioned into night. Glad I made the trip4 points

Called Blue and they said they will be making the $60 season passes for 6th graders available for next year, probably in the summer. So I will get those when they come out and the 3 of us will be skiing Blue all next season for a grand total of $519. Plus their PA SKI Passports and some coupons I have will let them each make four visits there this year. Gonna start waking up earlier on weekends I guess. Can't argue with an affordable pass to the closest and largest of the places I like to ski in PA.3 points

There's a hampton inn and a country Inn and suites in Lehighton on 209 right off the turnpike. Both of which are really nice. While I never stayed in either, I've used each multiple times for when I need to drop a D on my commute. Highly recommend2 points

He was legitimately upset and hurt that I parked there lol. It's a parking spot, not a huge deal. a PASR actually told me in person they were glad I parked there lol2 points

Let me check. On the flip side of that though, is that i have this work trip thing in the middle of March, in Vegas. Depending on whats going on in Utah, i may drive/fly/hitchhike to make some turns. Interesting development that just happened today. I'm gonna start really paying attention to how things work out with the buoy predictions.2 points

You did take my spot. You're lucky you're in the top 90% of people I like on PASR.2 points

If you ski Vail go back to front. Winter Park is cool too, Maryjane side is super fun.2 points

But any mildly grumpy person with a keyboard could write a bad review, even if it wasnt true. Thats the problem with the internet.2 points

Blue replied and said the only place they aren't permitted is the room where the food is, the one with the bar in it too. They also apologized for the employee's strict enforcement. I'm calling shenanigans on her story because she goes on to say that she took her stuff and went looking for a seat in the other room before returning and deciding the rule didn't apply to HER. I simply don't believe that it was SO busy there wasn't a seat to be had I the Vista ballroom, but when she returned to the other room her seat was still open.2 points

I'm still thinkin of coin the half off montage deal. Is that place worth it if its slow spring snow or whatever? Only been there once1 point

Well, you flounced away but then came back 24 hours later, so there's that. When I told everyone to fuck off in my flu thread, at least I had the decency to stay away for a few weeks.1 point

That makes sense. This person makes it out like no laptops what so ever. So her bad review was overdone. Probably most bad reviews are blown out of proportion.1 point

I don't think they want them in the room with the Last Run Lounge area only, because people will sit there all day consuming seats meant for people who buy food. I'm sure they've received a ton of complaints from people who buy food there and have nowhere to sit. One of Blue's responses is that laptop use is welcome, just in the other room.1 point

Great first trip report NM. I went back to Taos website and was looking at the trailmap/some of the runs you took. Pretty cool that you have some "locals knowledge". Hopefully that snow rolls in like you mentioned.1 point

Ha! We had the same thing happen when my son left at lunchtime in the row where we were parked. There must have been a half-dozen cars drive past the empty spot, staring at it as they drove past. Finally some guy just turned in to the jeers of the crowd. "He can park there, he's got a PA license plate!", "That'll be $20", etc. It wasn't like anyone was saving the spot or anything, people must have just been too scared of the crowd to try to turn in.1 point

Can't they just hang out in the big room where laptop use is permitted and wait for a seat to open like other people?1 point

People that live in nyc and go to popular vacation spots on holiday weekend then complain about crowds.1 point

The guy who waited for 10 minutes to take my spot when I was de-booting was driving a Tesla SUV. I was tempted to move even slower just to keep draining his battery.1 point

First place after round 1 with 7 out of 10 correct. Think we got 8 of 10 in round 2 but missed a couple of easy ones so probably lost the lead1 point
