The ski gods continue to deliver for me. Today was a bluebird sunny day, with amazing groomers. I did one more hike up to Juarez and one up to west blitz and both were soft skied out powder. Not bad at all. What made today amazing were rope drops on the entire front side steeps. I skied a top to bottom al’s run in untouched powder. Today was the first day it opened this season. Mind blowing for me. I did that twice which was totally exhausting. Skied a little with my kids in the afternoon after everything was skied out and my legs were cooked. Great ski trip. Scenic pics Looking up the ridge toward Juarez About to drop in My tracks on al’s West basin looking great Getting Refreshments on the St. Bernard deck Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk6 points

Yo get back on track, woke up at usual o-dark-30 and got shit ready. Googled around for breakfast places and found the Western Cafe opened at 6, so made our way there for some pre-ski grub, which was delicious! Made our way up Bridger Road to some spectacular scenery which wasn't evident arriving last night. Skies were clear in Bozeman, but the Bridger cloud was causing a little snow as we arrived, which didn't amount to much. Temps were 0 or a bit less and wind was blowing at 8am. I booted up in lot to the sounds of a helicopter coming in to land, with an ambulance waiting. Not sure what that was all about?? Got second chair on Sunnyside behind some season passholders because we had to wait for ticket booths to open. Ride up with an older couple who had moved to Bozeman from of all places, Bethlehem! Got some lowdown on food & beer places in Bozeman and split from them. With the direction of the wind and some suggestions from some locals, we headed over to Pierre's Knob right off and lapped that area for the morning. We passed the area to Schlasman's, which was closed. Snow was chalky smooth on groomers and wind-blown crud beyond them. Trees were meh, as they've been skied out and not much fresh to find. Regardless, the area is fun, steep at the start with long run outs to the lifts. Groomers are wide and empty so one can really crank them up. For lunch, we hit the Jim Bridger lodge bar for some IPAs and white chili. Wow am I farty now! After lunch it was back up Sunnyside and over to the Bridger lift. They had a competition level mogul run next to Bronco, so we had to check that out multiple times. Between those, we lapped the North Bowl which was mostly moguls. I like Bridger as it reminds me of Alta and Mad River, but with a slightly different vibe. People are so friendly out here! The problem is that if your a visitor without any avy experience, you're relegated to the lower mountain. I kept eyeing up all the fun stuff at the summit and that served by Schlasman's. Ended the day back at the bar where we talked to some guys wearing avy transceivers. The guys didn't say much other than, "It was a good day." The digs... Ballin' in our free upgrade from a Subaru... Road to Bridger... Heli inbound... Lunch! Legit soft snow mogul run. Bronco head.5 points

You’re a fucking idiot, what was the avalanche danger posting at the gate? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points
-
What was going through your mind when you pulled that gate towards you? Powder panic? For the PASRs who say TP4 has balls etc...think again. There are *countless* stories of herb tourons leaving the boundary and dying. Yes, he's alive, and I'm happy that he is, but it could have *very* easily gone the other way. The danger isn't just cliffs, but the hidden one...avalanches. There have been reported backcountry avalanches every day for the past week include 2 fatalities. "If you don't know, DON'T GO." I knew you were going to get your panties in a bunch when you were called out...but you deserve it dude. It's tough love. Unrelated...heal up quick. Injuries are the opposite of tits magee.3 points

Got my pass. $150 in extra $ to spend based on what I budgeted! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk3 points

Glad you are safe. We shouldn’t shame him, even though it was dumb. I think it’s good to encourage people to share their experiences so we can learn from them. TP4 thanks for sharing this story, maybe you prevented someone from getting themselves into danger by doing something similar in the future. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk3 points

You're an idiot TP4. Going out the Cody Bowl gate with no experience? Did you not hear "if you don't know, don't go" on the tram? At least you had transceiver, shovel, probe, and the required experience and backcountry knowledge. In case you didn't know, you actually were in Rock Springs. Hope you feel better dude, but that's just some stupid ass shit.3 points

Out for a couple of hours before the rain started again around 10. Had some sunshine at the start but gradually clouded over. Still had a lot of coverage, but crowds were pretty sparse even with the ski for the cure day. Snow was pretty soft but didn’t get torn up too much by the time I left. Felt almost like a closing day, but they still have hoses hooked up to the snow guns so all we need is some cold weather.2 points

Not going for a season pass next year. Really got skunked this year. With the project I am on now, and having the flu over the holidays, was only put a half dozen times. You might see me at Blue a few times next year.2 points

Hey All, I'm back from another fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot around 725am and it was foggy with the temperature of around 38 degrees. In the house were Atomic Jeff, JFDan, Johnny Law, Ryan, MBike Mike, Eaf, Matt Edge, TheDude4bides, GSSucks, Toast, Justo, TheRealKT, Slim, Kevin, Gary, West Chester homeys and many others. First run on razors was pretty fast and smooth and semi soft. Sidewinder was smooth and lots of instructors working on that perfect slow deliberate turn. Paradise was super nice semi spring snow and nightmare to Dreamweaver was now smooth no more skiercross course. Switchback I skied a bunch was mainly empty. Upper Main Street was good and lower not so much. Lazy mile wasn't crazy as crowds were non existent. Skied 8-10 and then hungout in the lot 10-12..blue closes today at 4PM and is closed all day tomorrow due to the impending rainfall. They'll survive this week fine with their base but if it's warm much more I see them closing in about two weeks. Let's hope for a nice cold spell and or snowfall or that blue will do some creative grooming to cover up thin and bare spots.1 point

Not much to say for today, right from the get-go it was like hurricane force winds. We went back to the far South where we were yesterday, but the winds were blowing the snow so hard you couldn't see anything. Where we did go, the snow was crusty and wind-blown. We tried making some runs down the leeward sides of the ridges, but even there the snow was crusty. Also, the light was flat and the bowls had been bumped up from yesterday and now had their troughs filled with some snow. So we couldn't see the bumps and when you hit a trough, you compressed hard into the bump. We ended up going to the far North runs where the winds weren't too bad and repeated those tree runs. We had to meet the others who were arriving in the afternoon, so we hit the bar and then departed. We concluded Bridger is definitely a locals mountain as the lift-serviced runs are steep at the start but flatten out fast. If you're a local, you're gonna have all the avy gear and training required to go to the top (you have to check in with ski patrol before they'll let you in the lift to the top, same with Schlasman's). Yeah GSS, we went all the way out the traverse and around the corner to those runs. They weren't bad, but they weren't worth the effort to get to them either. Next stop, Big Sky...1 point
