  1. Day 3 - Alta Much improved visibility, leftovers, still crowded. Our morning started out watching avy blasting over coffee. Alta has a spotter in the saloon (GMD has early coffee in there every morning), so we were talking with him and he was pointing out the areas they were working on. The powder-starved locals called in sick yesterday bc the mtn was still crowded. It was really nice to be able to see where you were going today, and the temps were a little warmer than yesterday. Found lots of soft stuff off the high-t first thing in the morning. Then we headed over to wildcat and found thigh-deep untouched snow. The bro-skiers were out in force, hitting a kicker under the lift. The girls went exploring the sugarloaf and supreme lifts while my buddy rob and I did a lap down in the black jack area. After that we decided to take the high t to the end and we came down high rustler...easily run of the day. After a run thru the trees below Collins lift we met the girls for lunch at the saloon. Lunch was a really good supreme pizza and soda: really hit the spot. After lunch we lapped supreme lift, playing in the trees and steeps off skiers left looking down the mtn. Supreme bowl was closed. One last run of the day was under the collins lift. Another awesome day in ski paradise. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  2. A lot of new snow. Low crowds. Bright sun. Good grooming. Blew in the bumps and on main. The bumps are fantastic but after running 20 miles yesterday my legs are burnt by the bottom. Excited for tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. I don't know wtf that was. But I'm back to strongly disliking Eaf, so at least there's some order in the world.

  5. I had such a great trip to Canada last season, that I decided to try it again this season. After going last year solo, I was finally able to get Afroman to get his passport and join me. We left Sugarbush this morning at about 8 AM. We weren’t in a rush since it was going to be a mellow day with Afroman getting his legs back under him after two years off his board. We arrived at the border at about 10:30, and since Afroman had never been to Canada, we waited about 20 minutes for them to do a more in-depth check on him. After getting the go ahead, we arrived at Bromont, booted up in the parking lot, and were on the snow at 11:45. Despite it being Quebec vacation week, we found the crowds to be minimal, barely waited in a lift line, and we were able to get discounted lift tickets online. The mountain is pretty expansive and offers over 100 runs ranging from beginner to expert. It also has several t2b high speed lifts and several fixed grips. The lifts are strategically placed to disperse crowds and connect seamlessly with other trail pods. The temperature was in the mid 30’s and there was plenty of granular to go around. We mostly stuck to the green and blue stuff until the last couple of runs when Afroman was feeling adventurous enough to hit some black diamonds. We ate lunch at the lodge on the backside of the mountain. It was delicious and affordable, especially with the current exchange rate. After 15 runs, and having a 3 hour drive up north of Quebec City, we called it quits. Overall, not a bad first day to the Canadian ski trip. As an aside, I was amazed by the scope of the resort at Bromont. It was much larger than expected and had a very classy and well maintained set of lodges and base buildings, while also sporting several hotels and numerous ski houses. I highly recommend if you want a place to stop on the way to MSA or Le Massif.

  9. Whatever you call the person stocking the shelves at the grocery store....i keep looking at that job like the stress factor on that would be pretty low. 9-5 (or some similar set hours), dairy didnt get delivered that day? not his fault. a catastrophe might be having to clean up a dozen eggs that hit the ground by accident? My job keeps me awake at night. Often. And, thanks to the invention of the smartphone, i can even be at work, even when im not at work. Awesome.

  13. After packing up and hitting the road after Bromont, we traveled 3 hours further north to the town just outside of Mont Sainte Anne. We had gotten a room at the Quality Suites there and were only 10 minutes from the base of the mountain. After a good nights sleep, we had breakfast at the Quality Inn, got some discounted vouchers at the hotel, and hit the road. The hotel had no vacancies, and the parking lot was significantly busier than when I had come last year. Regardless, it was never “that” crowded. We redeemed our lift tickets and were on the snow by 9:30. Our first couple runs were uncrowded and had no lift lines. We accidentally ended up in a natural snow only area serviced by a T-Bar. Afroman struggled with the T-Bar and we became separated. After waiting for about 45 minutes at the lodge at the base of the backside of the mountain, I decided to take some runs. I encountered my first “long” lift line of about 10 minutes, but if you hit the singles line, it was much quicker. I lapped the backside of the mountain which is mostly Green and Blue cruisers before finding Afroman about 8 runs later. We headed over to the front side to skiers right for some amazing views. Following that, we got some uncrowded runs off the Gondola. All in all, we did 17 runs today, the majority of them from 11:30 to 4 straight. There was significantly more snow up here than at Bromont. There were decent bump trails and some off piste to be had. Still some bare spots, but this storm Thursday should erase that. It was a mix of frozen granular and packed powder with a moderate wind. Overall, it was a great day. Off to Le Massif de Charlevoix tomorrow.

  14. Tried to sneak away for some evening skiing and went to Boreal, because they are open until 9 and because they are on the Max Pass. Had my own boots and figured I'd demo. Fail #1 on my part: no demos. Fail #2: thinking I could get food at 6pm at a resort that's open until 9. Nope. But I had a shitty day and really wanted to ski, so I rented. That's right: I channeled my inner Salty and rented 170 Volkls. 74s. I did about four runs and gave up. It was too horrible.

  15. After round 1 Team PA Ski and Ride is in the lead with 8 points, 2 other teams with 7. Round 2 was state capitals. Pretty sure we got 9 of the 10.

  16. Final trivia Tuesday of the season. Getting of to a late start. I think they are hoping more teams show up because there's like nobody here. Ran late myself but it didn't matter. Pops running late so might be on my own for round 1.

  20. I think there is going to be a little fresh for opening, while lightly snowing. Refreshments/snacks/cocoa, mid morning, then it will start dumping snow sometime around 10:30-11:00.

  22. I dont think getting there tomorrow will be that bad. Getting home will be the tricky part for sure, depending on what time of course. I'm going to put my "out west" lens in my googles so i feel like im skiing something really awesome.

  24. I just think when they raised their price to $499 yesterday morning a lot of folks bitched. They should have held a hard line. They had almost two weeks to lock in the $399 price.

  25. Got the email. 6th grade Ski passes are $99 this year. I will take it $399 + 99 + 99 - 50 (sold off two Blue lift tkt vouchers for $25 each when I got this) = $547 for 3 of us to ski Blue all next season.

  26. I only dislike Eaf. Can't watch; I'm not going to get any of these jobs. Just a vibe, but a strong one. I need a plan B and a place to live that's near good mountain biking and skiing but has a low cost of living. I don't suppose there are any places like that left.

  27. The house has been renting very well. I always wait till the last minute to reserve a few days for myself so I don’t give up income. Then it usually gets rented. It’s ok, House was over budget so nice to recoup some costs. With a vacation place you can only hope the rental income pays your expenses, everything else is gravy.

  30. Absolutely puking snow here. We set out to snowshoe with myself breaking trail. Probably snowed at least a foot overnight. It was so socked in you could barely see. I had to keep my goggles up and deal with snow pelting my face because they were so fogged up I just couldn’t see. I didn’t take my phone out at all for pictures. We didn’t last long. Think it took an hour to cover a little over a mile. Should be an interesting snow coach ride back to Mammoth this afternoon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  31. Greetings from Little Cottonwood Canyon! Day 1 - travel day. The nor'easter really complicated our flight out to Utah. We flew out of BWI, but the plane was 2 hrs late getting there bc of weather. Then, we sat on the plane for 3 hrs at the gate bc there was a leaky valve preventing the engines from starting. Grounds crew got that resolved and we were on our way. Arrived in SLC just before the storm really ramped up, but the canyon road conditions were deteriorating fast. We made it to Goldminers Daughter just before last call. Day 2 - Alta Storm riding, cold, windy, very low visibility. We woke up to sirens and mortar blasting at 6:30 local time....not a lot of sleep from the previous day's travel. It was snowing sideways and we had interlodge until 9-ish. That gave us plenty of time to have a kick-ass breakfast. We got our passes and hit up wildcat lift bc Collins was mobbed. Snow was epic, but you couldn't see much at all. Not many pics or video. We skied in the Collins, sugarloaf, wildcat, and high-t areas yesterday. Best snow was in wildcat, hands down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  41. Maybe like West Virginia??? New Hampshire. In the Rockies I doubt that..maybe somewhere like Winnemucca Nevada but that's 2 hours to Tahoe. Gonna be hard to find somewhere with a lower cost of living than the Lehigh valley with the same amount of creature comforts.

  43. I had mentioned before i was up in the air about Elk, or Frost, with Montage as a backup for today. i was guilt-ed into going to the cardboard classic last night by some friends from the neighborhood here, so off i went. Hung out and did the tailgate thing for a while, a little after nine i clicked in to make the most of the cards i was dealt with. It was snowing at a pretty good clip at that point. I pretty much knew right away this was gonna be a bust and the epic-ness was way up north. The wind was blowing straight up the slopes. i basically had to pole and skate down lehigh. The base snow was just waterlooged sort of firm but not frozen, and any kind of head wall was pretty much just blown off. Hopped on the park lift, which, holy fuck, if it was to go any slower it would be going backwards. Demattes was pretty much just as bad, there was a tiny bit of pow on the sides, but any turn you made just killed your speed. Onto the East Mountain lift which must be propelled by gerbils. Lightning (yeah, right?) to Rivershot. Just straightlined it, for fear of not making it too the lift without too much effort. I didnt even bother with Floyds, Doug. They still hadnt started to send the sleds down the tubing slope, so i figure down Exhibition to take a pee, since there was a line up for the porta-potties. Pole, Pole, skate, skate, down Exhibition at a turtles pace. Up the worlds slowest lift again, down T-bolt, which was the same as every other trail, windblown headwalls. Back up East Mt, stopped at the top to watch the start of the sleds going down. They had to basically move the finish line up closer to the start line twice. The snow was hampering the downward motion of the sleds. they basically had to push them down....lol. So i was done my workout for the day, so i stowed my gear in my truck and resumed the tailgate thing. Good food, good people, and some wonderful apple pie moonshine, that was just off the hook. I might be able to get my hands on some, it would be fun for Blue party day. We went through about a gallon of it. I am completely jaded by the high speed lifts, the vert, and the trails at Blue. I still want to like Frost, but it just doesnt have much going for it anymore in my eyes. They are in rough shape over there with their base. i'm not sure i have ever seen it so thin. lots of poles up where there is just no snow. Trees are not in play. I know its been a tough week or so with the rain, but, wow. And i doubt much of whats falling today is gonna help since its blowing off the slopes and into the trees. We stayed a little while after the cardboard classic was over, which was a huge mistake. Really slow traffic getting out of the place. My buddy got a call from his wife 940/115 was crawling. made a plan to go the opposite way to the turnpike, down to the slip ramp and be home in a jiff. Nope, turnpike closed in between our entance/exit. so 940/115 it is and just deal with it. Nope, had to turn around. now i try to go through split rock. again, denied. Running out of options, we ended up going down past the turnpike and taking 534 all the way home. it was super sketchy, but there werent that many cars on it. had to stop twice to clear out some hills of cars that werent making it. 2 hrs to get home from frost. What the fuck is it with this area that when it snows, the roads shut down because of people dont know better, and arent equiped to drive in it? long story short, cardboard classic fun, good time with friends, sucky skiing, but i did manage to get a small work out in doing so.

  44. Best part of yesterday was @JFskiDan "Coming in hot" right into the RFID system! There was also some first chair mess-up, as the RFID turned on before 8am. The PASR 1st chair had to get off, and skate/walk around the chair back into the queue. Good times.
