  3. With Blue being closed and still a desire to ski, a few of the bump heads and @tarponhead were heading up to Hunter and had a few cheap tickets to use up. Luckily the wife was gracious enough to let me go, so got picked up and made the ride. The roads on the drive up were virtually empty, probably due to it being Easter, with a few droplets of rain on the windshield. Unfortunately for one tabby cat, it gave up it's final life under the car in front of us after being harassed by some birds who drove it into the lineup of cars headed to the mountain. I can say now that I've actually witnessed a dead cat bounce! Poor kitty. Arrived in the lot around 8am with temps in the low 40s, but the mountain claiming 30's, but the snow was definitely not set up. Getting out, there was some spritzing going on but not enough to make it a problem, just annoying on the goggles. At the top, it was flurrying. Made a few speed runs first thing down the mains, avoiding some big skid marks here and there just to warm up the legs. The snow on the groomers was soft and loose, but held an edge which made the long runs a lot of fun. Decided to give some bump runs a go, but they were less than enjoyable as the temps were just not there to soften up was did set up and there were a few gotchas here and there. Drizzle changed to sleet and graupel at the top. Made our way to the West side. The run down was uneventful, as you still had to watch for skid marks. Nothing was open over there except the run down and the lift ride up. By mid morning, clouds were dropping and the top was getting socked in and light was flat. Decided to take a break. After the break, the temps were dropping and the wind was picking up, but another run down the West side saw some blue skies peeking through. Met some locals the bump heads knew, so we made a few runs with them and broke for lunch. During lunch, skies cleared and sun came out in full which softened the snow even though temps were probably in the low 40s. The snow turned hero on sun facing aspects and the bumps softened up nicely. The rest of the day was spent on bump runs until the legs gave out somewhere around 3pm, just in time for parking lot beer and drive home. Overall a pretty good Easter Sunday!

  4. Ended up with 8 runs in about an hour and a half. Didn't enjoy them all, but I enjoyed the night. Figure I'm a better skier now than I was 2 hours ago, if only by a little bit.

  5. I get that, i do. But i do also see how hard it would be to open your doors at the end of the season, when ticket sales are already going down, just to make "people happy". Keep in mind, we all just bought a pass for the least amount of money ever. And there is no way your cheap ass would open anything if you werent going to make a buck.

  6. fun pre work runs, great to make a few turns with moeghoul! I need wider skis for that snow though... maybe some rtm 110's!

  7. You would have seen my car; everyone else seems to duck out early. I have a hard time leaving when lifts are spinning. But then I get home and collapse asleep like an exhausted toddler. EDIT: A toddler who drinks a lot of IPA.

  8. Tonight was so much fun, so glad I ended up going. The mountain had a cool vibe to it the whole time. The snow was brutally slow at first but started to hardened up a bit and the conditions were great when I left at 7. THANK YOU BLUE MOUNTAIN FOR CHANGING PLANS AND OPENING UP!!!

  10. 90% chance of rain Tues and Wed. Wednesday high over 60..... Today was a good way to start and end my "season" at Blue. Good to see some of the regulars, albeit briefly. I managed to ski a coupla runs with Mbike. He heard me screaming obscenities at and punching the far left 6pack gate because it wouldn't respond to the lift pass. I didn't even recognize him until we got on the lift. Turns out it may have been inoperable. Thanks for the No worky non-signage , Blue. Sweet untracked runs while it was still puking a bit rules out an encore for the weekend. I saw what lurked under the fresh snow. Blue was purdy this AM; fresh snow is like crater filler for slope acne. Special thanks to Toast for the pass hookup.

  11. Killington spring pass here. I plan to ski until the mountain bike trails open. I think I need to get a gravel or road bike for the mud season.

  12. I took high school students to Hooters once years ago on a model congress trip. They wanted to go and I said no, and they begged, so I said ok. It was a mix of girls and boys and the girls all immediately started talking about how gross and exploitive it was and we had a nice discussion about gender expectations and the Male Gaze. The boys were completely bummed out and probably wish we'd gone anywhere else. Mission. Accomplished.

  13. What a beautiful morning. Deepest turns on X-ing all season. Snow was getting kinda rowdy in a good fun way. Switched off the Bacons for the Monsters for a few runs before I left. Kinda wish I could have stayed for the sun to come out.

  14. I’m leaving on my fifth annual skifari Wednesday morning flying southwest Newark to Denver and renting mid sized SUV from Alamo. I don’t have any hotel books but will likely stay at the silver inn in Silverthorne and maybe another locale as well. It’s been snowing out there the last week. Snow showers are in the forecast nearly every day during my trip which generally means snow overnight and sunny during the day..should be a nice last taste of winter unless we get a late April snowstorm...

  21. The fact that I read this as a coherent sentence and know exactly what the mountain is like either means I hang out on this forum too much or that overall this is one weird ass sport and I've done it too much in the past decade.

  22. Sick. The lower Lazy is faster than the upper one. All because it's been scraped. So the way how you ski it is this... Use your muscles to push your way through the irregularly slow mess up, then enjoy a reasonably fast but short stretch down, then get to Home stretch and now really take your time organizing your thoughts, making a shopping list, remembering TODO items at work, all while you're sloooooowly progressing down to the lift.

  26. Hey All, I’m back from a triple bonus day at Blue mountain..it’s April, they were supposed to be closed originally and there was 6” of fresh Perd!! The drive up was uneventful and I arrived in the lower lot just after 730am and in the house were Atomic Jeff, Toast, Ryan, Moe Ghoul, MBike Mike, Phillycore, Root, bumper Chris, Fritz and many more. Had a Perpetual IPA in the lot.. I was actually second civilian chair...first run on razors was deeper than I thought it would be..bottomless..the flats were slow as to be expected as we were breaking trail on homestretch and the flat below the last head wall. Next run was Challenge only a few tracks mostly untracked..went back to razors for the last of the untracked. Hit up Sidewinder for sweet untracked especially along the sides..I believe that was skied twice along with Nightmare to dreamweaver. I skied to the right of the bumps had untracked smooth the entire nightmare and even skied between two holes..mad technical yo!! Hoofed it over to X-ing and it was a dream wow..deaths of untracked an hour into the session..down Main Street which still had some fresh on the sides up the Burma chair and skied upper widowmaker which was untracked across to x-ing to Main Street to the base. Up 6-pack and had a sweet run on lower Widowmaker to midway to Main Street. Chute had lots of untracked but frozen moguls below it. Up Burma chair and top to bottom nearly untracked Widowmaker was tits mcgee..to chop city midway to a semi smooth lower Main Street. Peaced out at 1012AM..not often you get untracked snow last run of the season at Blue. Off to Colorado Wednesday..I think there’s a 40% chance Blue reopens weekend of 4-14/4-15

  27. Wow just wow Last run of the day over the head blower on Widow Maker. Well, it was still top to bottom untracked at 9:40 on Widow Maker. Awesome for (perhaps) the last run of the year to be fucking titty sparkles.

  29. Today was a blast! A little cool in the morning but quickly warmed up and softened up. I rode from 8-1030. The new down rail is fun. Grabbed a coffee, talked to enjoralas dad for a bit then went back for session (2) and noticed i messed my board up AGAIN and never went back out! F***. Im going to have to do some maintenance. Spent some time in the lot, met Sally and a few others and hung with everyone for a bit. It was nice meeting all of you this season! To the people who will be up next Sat I look forward to seeing you and the people who wont i look forward to seeing you next season. I had to rep BWest today!

  30. Hey All, I’m back from a fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. In the house were Atomic Jeff, GSSucks, Antman, Shadows, JohnnyLaw,!Justo, Eaf, Salty, JFDan, Indiggio, Slim, Root, TheRealKevinThomas, PARidge, Ty, Gary, Gary, Gary, MBike Mike, enjorales, Enjorales dad, SallyCat and many others. Temperatures began around 30 and rose nearly 25 degrees throughout the morning and early afternoon. My favorite runs were Razors Edge and nightmare to dreamweaver. Challenge deserves an honerable mention early on. It was pretty nice..the middle razors bumps were also good and fast. I’m began my day with 9-10 fast runs followed by an early parking lot sesh with some beer and snacks then another hour+ on the snow followed by more parking lot fun. Temperatures topped out around the low 50s by 2pm. Now the word is that blue will be open Monday. That is sick. I don’t know if I’ll be there first thing or after work. Depends on the weather but now I can say that my blue season isn’t over yet. All in all a fun spring day.

  40. Around the mtn today. Fav runs were NMDW, Main st., and Sidewinder. Weirdly there were icy spots in amongst the soft snow/-not ice I guess but compacted snow that feels like ice.
