  1. Nice morning so far. Have skied 5-6 runs so far. Just about fully tracked out now this is my last run off the Sierra lift. I tried to take a good amount of pictures but pow pictures aren’t the same without action shots.

  3. Woke up Friday morning at 3am and made the uneventful drive up to Killington, arriving in the parking lot just after 9 and booted up to mostly sunny skies and upper 20s, but felt much colder because of the wind. Met up with another Blue couple and headed up the gondoobie. First run over on East Fall and the snow was hard and fast as expected from the recent rain and falling temps. Took some stabs at venturing off trail, but that was a no-go. The snow looked good from the lifts, but was compressed and frozen stiff. Took a run down the backside over to check out the mogul course. Yikes! It was frozen solid, so much so that they were out with pickaxes to chop the jump landings. A few hardy (insane) soles were making their way down the run, but ended up bailing after a few bumps from out of control speed. Should be an interesting comp! Later in the day some snow started to fall and visibility dropped. Headed up to the top lodge for a few beers. Coming out we were met with full on wind and some 3-4" of fresh perder which helped slow things down a bit as pretty much everything was a sheet of ice by this point. Run of the day was coming down a mostly untracked Highline just before close, since few will ride the triple. Left the mountain after a few parking lot beers and headed to the house. Following the GPS which took me to the wrong house, only to find Tarpon pulling in right behind me. Turned out the house was across the street. After some dinner with other Blue couple, headed over to Sushi Yoshi for the pre-comp registration party and to meet up with the gaggle of Blue people who also came up for the fun. Thanks for the beer Tarpon!!

  7. Snuck over to the competition today (though Big Boulder is open, it's a little short in vertical even for me). Hit the snooze button too many times, and didn't get there until 11:30. Probably a good thing. First run down Racers was boilerplate, but by 1 it had softened up nicely. A bunch of runs in the area between Sidewinder and Dreamweaver and called it a day around 2:30. Nice to have the legs burning a little at the bottom of the runs.

  8. Day 3 of 6.:Copper mountain... I was up early and enjoyed the free breakfast had bagel with two kinds of jelly, two clementines and coffee. Was on the road by 730 and pulled into copper pay lot by the base of the super bee lift by 750 and already half filled lot...lot unplowed but managed not to get feet wet..temperature right around freezing everything covered in a foot of snow..got to ticket line which was inside by the rental shop real satellite staffing now and today was a big April day for them. Only one guy selling tickets and rentals..line of 7-8 grew to 15 by the time I bought ticket at soup nazi precision had card out and buddy pass $79..while I was signing receipt he was already selling next ticket. Got into super bee line maybe 80 people I was in 5th row or so they dropped the rope we all skied through untracked snow in kiftkine human groomers and boarders stuck and people dicking around with RFID I snuck my way past a couple dozen of them and on one of the first six packs. Problem was they hadn’t cleaned the snow yet off the chairs so a fanny flap would have been handy. Guy with broom was doing his best but one person and a six pack full speed is a lot for a foot of snow. Lift stopped a few times on way up got to watch wallets ski down ththe middle of blue groomers with deep dense pow..saw a few wipe outs for sure. First run skied to mid mountain all untracked some runs had to go to sides for untracked up to the top and down a main dark blue route which was rowdy and an area where there are multiple lifts didn’t like that skied woods rest of the way down until I got to grooming service building then untracked on entire lower mountain fat skis really excel at getting through lower angle untracked. Also did my good deed for the day guided two kids out of wide open glades that funnel into tight trees. Had to Hollywood a little for them was wide open. Ended up on a green to the base people stuck everywhere. Needed to get away from the crowds so took the American flyer lift up which goes village to 2/3 or the way up like 2 miles and 2k of vert then skied down to the Sierra lift was stopped had a big line went on rendezvous lift which is all meadow skipping don’t think I’ve ever taken that lift Pretty much got speed off others tracks in flats there’s one decent face that people were hoofing to that I used their tracks to get to it..real deep up there but I needed pitch so sucked it up and waited in line for Sierra lift singles line quick rode up with two Lyndsey Dyer look alikes took surface lift up to peak then skied a cirque kind of run..was somewhere between untracked and sloppy seconds. Rode sierra lift one last time and went down mini cornice deep nobody goes that way early because it dumps into timberline area but I know a good route where you stay above timberline area longer and dump out on the herb routes lower had that to myself ended on a Blue which was untracked entire left side to timberline lift moderate lift line where did all these people come from..14” new 10” overnight brings the people out. Snow didn’t really stop I was sort of wet legs were tired but all snow I can handle. Had people ask me about my fat skis..found more fresh mid mountain woods don’t always follow people into woods there’s streams and shit...was able to ski almost back to the bus stop..parking lot was a raging stream and new snow at the base was down to a few inches No snow in Frisco

  26. I’ll write an actual report for today since it was so badass Left hotel at 820AM..a little later than I wanted to. Was wet snow falling in silverthorn Dillon and keystone..wet roads until the last mile or so below the parking lot. Was expecting a lot of people at 840am..booted up fast at JFDan and Ryan speed all business secured my two day ticket at 849am they needed my name and my zip code. Glad I’m not a fugitive or I’d just give my alias Mark Miller. Was about the third row of people in line I inched my way up a bit maybe 8th chair but half the people in front of me were borders or were going straight for terrain park ended up second chair on Lenawee..a miracle skating skills on fleek..ended up first civilian down power line right along the snow fence where it always piles up. People above on the lift were yelling it’s powder. Visibility was bad top third then got better new snow was shallow enough for even some low mountain meadow skipping in areas where I knew either were groomed or not usually bump runs. Bump runs owned people made the long Lenawee ride exciting some spectacular falls. Wasn’t the bro brah crowd more the Denver Dave and Chicago Carly many have season passes and only go a handful of days a year but they get after it. The weather was good or bad depending on how much you like skiing untracked snow. Snow falling was wet and sometimes ice pellets mixed in..did a run early on all the way to the base. Did a repeat of run number one again off Lenawee then rode Lenawee again and took the new rope tow over to Montezuma. It’s just a rope..I used to skate that section uphill so saves the legs and the lungs at over 12,000 feet. Over on on the Montezuma side visibility was bad up high but skiing along fences, rope lines and near lift towers often yields the most untracked. Not much competition over there for freshies most taking the two main herb roots. Mid angel woods all in play steeper ones have rocks and bumps low snowpack on that side of the mountain. A few areas of almost eastern ice where it filters to the lift. Skied a second run over there around a closed area and cut back high in order to get some hard to reach smooth freshies under the lift for a couple hundred yards...was my personal X-ing coincidently next lift ride a large group probably from somewhere exotic like Iowa or Santa Ana tracked it all up. Was probably a bump run by closing. Back to the front and I took a circuitous route to the right below the east wall to get some untracked and the woods the last couple hundred vert above the mid mountain lodge were all nice but popular as well and pee breaks easily inturupted. Skied to base again not much fresh on lower mountain got all skied up went back up the quad to mid mountain lodge. Had bacon Bloody Mary and talked to lady who works for Southwest Airlines and couple from Chicago who have season pass. None of them even left the lower mountain yet that’s why the limited runs down there were all tracked out. Had an IPA and soft pretzel drinks were cheap pretzel with cheese sauce was like $4.50. Pretty much dried out now it was snowing even harder. Free refills kind of conditions and not many people skiing Lenawee lift so that was the play. Had to get the new snow and blow over along snowfence that I skied first run my kind of spine..had to do that again then skied some woods..got soaked again and practically skied to my car.

  39. Wicked windy last night and cold and windy today, hooboy! Sitting by the fireplace last night when a big downdraft instantly filled the entire house with woodsmoke, then the power went out, kerplunk. Kudos for getting out today! WTGAI is the thing to say, right? WTGAI! I'm going to try to get to Bear Mtn. early enough to park on Saturday, then meet up with some late-sleeping friends for the mogul comp. I may even be in some spiffy new Lange boots that the Boot Pro is working on for me. (Blue Langes with a 92mm last, 110 flex, and a custom footbed. Swanky. Narrow.) .
