Day 2: Mt Ellen Currently sitting at bar because #2 is still out. My legs are cooked. Woke up to 2” a clipper dropped. Checked MRG snow conditions and decided nope. Not enough open. We opted for SB instead. As luck would have it it’s $30 Thursday’s at Mt Ellen. Score! Maybe legit 3-4” at summit, 2-3” lower down. Found freshness all morning on the edges. Obviously on hard pack put snow piles/crud stayed floaty McBoaty. Lapped trails revealed my doppelgänger was nesting my turns and I, his. Never see that blue. I thought exterminator was ROTD as we kept lapping that but the award goes to hammerhead. HH is narrower then most so held the snow better. Our first run down HH was on our way in for a quick lunch but after the initial run we repeated another 5x. Bump bump city. By 2:30 I told #2 he won and I’m going in. Great great day. Tomorrow is BOGO day at Smuggs and relocating base amp to Lyndon10 points

Arrived at lower lot at 7:45 AM because I’m still in holiday mode. Watched videos of Jackson hole till 830. The Bethlehem Ford guy, Eclaire, and Clifford the Big Red Dad we’re in the house. First chair up had light fog, halfway down Main it started raining. Second run down Paradise you could barely see because of the rain and the fog was so thick. Third run, the sun came out and stayed out. Drop the skis off at True Blue for an edge and hot wax. Saved three fidy thanks to the season pass. Snow wasn’t terrible and it was empty so it was a good start to the day. On the drive out, LT Police had some kind of set up going on with a cruiser in the halfpipe parking lot and someone pulled over in the Penn DOT lot. Ski you this weekend.8 points

Left NJ at 0-dark thirty with son #2 and made it up to sugarbush in 5.25 hr (Lincoln). 15F at base, couple degrees colder up top. Started on some groomers because son’s #2 first day back on skis since breaking leg on gully #1 at big sky last year. After lapping a few and since castle rock is still closed headed to area under direct sun (north lynx triple). Limited terrain but sunrise or sun dimple or whatever the fuk you call the bump run off of the lynx chair was $. Firm but still not crazy technical. Lapped that and whatever bump run it’s called under lynx triple down to bottom on perder whales with many snow guns going (15F) under lift that gets you to lynx chair (I should be a SB mountain guide). (Self) limited terrain but crazy fun day. Been skiing blue since November so nice change of pace. I knocked it off at 3 but #2 skied until last chair while I drank Lawson’s sunshine at bar. Then Mad Taco dinner; a perfect ending. Was planning on MRG tomorrow but reports been sketch so may lay out $ and ski Mt Ellen tomorrow. (Today was warren miller free vouchers.) TBD.5 points

On mountain at 9:45. No crowds and temp of 28*. Guns blowing on Tuscarora and Whissahican. (They were blowing all night since about 9:00 pm New Years day). The guns were stopped when we left at 2:30pm. Skied all the open runs, except bunny slope and little foot terrain park. Conditions much better than expected. Mainly granular with no cookies or mashed potatoes. All trails were groomed. Upper Tunk had some firm, almost icy spots, skiers left, and the sketchiest, but still not terrible, conditions on entire mountain. Delaware had packed powder surface on upper mountain sections turning more granular toward bottom of trail. A couple of new things this year. Free Wi-Fi is finally available in the lodge, and credit cards are finally taken at the bar. Elk lost a lot of base since before Christmas, but is still in excellent condition all things considered. And .... The Beer is Cold.... Even though the prices increased. 😢😢4 points

Late tonight and early tomorrow AM is blues one decent chance to blow snow this week. Things like winds, cloud cover and an inversion could hinder that. Think cold thoughts y’all. I don’t know if I’m skiing tonight...my friend wants to have me over for supper..might just wait till the weekend.2 points

3 runs at done for me. NastarGlenn said he did 4. Gahskier George did 3 and called it quits. Snobunski said she never made it out on the mountain and only taught kids on the teaching hill. It was complete dog shit. It looked like Shadows/Ridges pictures from Sunday (I can't remember if it was this past sunday or the previous sunday). At one point I was boot deep in sugar on Main. @Johnny Law you didn't miss anything1 point

I was watching a show the other day about 80s and 90s music and it talked a lot about how U2 revolutionized the rock/pop rock culture both with concerts and music videos. Interesting to watch. Definitely a talented group.1 point

Good to know. I usually fly through there in the mornings. Might need to leave a few minutes earlier this week.1 point

I've seen people pulled over near that intersection in the past week or so. Most of the cars have been stopped just south of 946 on Blue Mountain Drive. There are VASCAR lines just south of there, at the intersection of BMD and Charles Dr I believe.1 point

I’m guessing it was for speeding or aggressive driving on 946 or Blue Mountain Road. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I had a nice morning with @toast21602 at Blue today. Place was mostly empty until 11. Only sugar was on Tuts and Home Stretch. Main was nice, but there's some weird grooming going on there. The hard right on Lazy was unusually smooth today. Left side of Paradise was silky smooth and really firm. Did Burma twice. Lots of dirty snow everywhere. At one point an inspector was checking the operation of the safety bars as sofa's came into the terminal..1 point

True story. I was skeptical earlier today when I read you can microwave your phone for 1 minute and it gives you a full battery. I shit you not, it worked like a charm. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

That happened to me the last day of the year at Camelback. I did 2 runs and had enough, and afterwards didn't even have anyone to harass in the parking lot.0 points
