February 12th, 2019 Day 7 of 7 Hey All, I’m finished with another fun ski day at Jackson hole mountain resort. I believe it’s my 102nd ski day here since 2002. We arrived at the Gondola around 745AM and chatted with Bruce from Bethlehem while waiting for first Gondola. Bruce went to the University if Vermont 20 years for me and spent many years in corporate America before settling in Victor Idaho and Atomic Jeff plays golf with his brother. First civilian gondola with two girls one from Colorado and one from Reading PA. High tailed it to Thunder via Amphitheater which had a little bit of new snow on top of groomed. Then down Grand which also had some new snow on top of groomed surface. Up Sublette and the wind chill was 30 below zero at the top..brrrr..skied past the bottom of the kings and queens of Corbett’s in 10 sleep bowl and over to the Cirque and was rewarded with a creamy 6-8” of untracked snow..was really nice. Back to thunder lift and there was a pretty long line then found more fresh in Grand woods..up Sublette and went a little farther left into the cirque and was able to find some super nice untracked snow. I crossed some tracks but my turns were in the Perder and I was rewarded with snow billowing up above my waist. Back down to Thunder lift and there was more than a full corral of people so went on the Marmot lift instead which had no line. We did the Nastar Glenn woods and were rewarded with several hundred vertical feet of untracked barely 20 yards away from a main run..so good had to repeat them again after another ride up Marmot. My legs were screaming after 7 days in a row..ended up taking some woods and Sundance to the base and just had a nice lunch at the Handlebar inside the four seasons. All in all was a really fun trip everyday had really nice snow and good visibility on the majority of days..I only took two falls..one my first run of the trip and one in the middle of the busiest street in town..tomorrow is our travel day which means of course it’s supposed to snow a lot here..we might try to get out on an early morning flight to Denver instead of waiting until early afternoon for our direct flight to Newark..that way at least our plane will be waiting here. I did my best to take some pictures today and here they are. Thanks everybody for following along in this thread. I’ll post the Good, the Bad and the Ugly in the coming days.11 points

I’m alright fam. I went and got checked out. Pretty much the worst if it is some bruised ribs. I need to follow up on something the CT showed and I probably won’t be skiing for a few days. I’m far too tired to put any more brain cycles into this today.5 points

Thanks. Glad to be here too. You guys always make me laugh and the best part of my day is reading your trip reports and parking lot sausages and beers. It’s almost like I’m there. Thanks for that. I’ve been reading them for years on end. I’ve never been to Blue yet, but I can tell you that I’ll never park in the upper lot!4 points

The upper lodge is nicer than the lower lodge, but I started parking in the lower lot so I don't have to stand around in ski boots while conversing with Steeze et. al.3 points

The only thing they do is hang out on Paradise and whistle at competent sliders, which is obviously a waste of time.3 points

Yeah they’ve condensed many of the smaller bases to larger ones and closed them. My dad was at Willow Grove NAS until it closed. He was part of a combat camera unit and was responsible for the photography and videography of the air shows at the base. I basically got a pit pass for the runway. It was pretty awesome but I didn’t appreciate it as much as I would now. I just thought big planes and helicopters were cool.2 points

I still occasionally see C130s do touch and gos at ABE. What was really cool is when Ft. Indiantown would fly A10s through the valley at Blue and you would be eye level with the cockpits.2 points

There's the eaf we all know and love. And I was just beginning to see you in a whole new light after your sick Dolamite TR.2 points

I know you’re new here but the admins are pretty resourceful and have a feature to show who’s online and how many are lurking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Yes, but is there train radar? I have railroad tracks next to work so it’s fun to see what they’re hauling. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Big fan of flight radar. Sometimes it is better than TV. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

They take photos too apparently. Not sure what they do with them.2 points

Root and I were up, I got an hour in before going to work. First two runs were a carpet, just a skiff over groomed. Root took a beater on razors first run, there are a set of sleeper rollers that werent marked. He did a complete roll in the air, he took a bunch more runs and seemed ok but it was a pretty good thump. Hope your feeling ok dude.2 points

If I only had one day to ski and it had to be in Pa. I'm on an Elk high at the moment....so I'd go there on a weekday for the terrain variety. Between Cb and Blue....I'd choose Blue but don't go on a weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Saw A-10s over Hazleton a few times... many, many years ago. I very rarely see any military aircraft doing exercises over PA these days.1 point

That flight radar is pretty cool. I've been playing with it a little bit tonight. I'm also a big fan of https://www.marinetraffic.com/ . I feel bad for anyone that gets diverted to Harrisburg. You land in Middletown where I used to live which has exactly nothing in it. OK there was one decent brewery and a Sheetz. But that's it. The cool thing about living near the Harrisburg airport was watching the planes. That airport was originally built as an Air Force Base and still has a little Air Force presence. They also have a decent sized cargo plane program for FedEx and UPS. The coolest thing about the airport there was the fact that it's proximity to DC, the relatively low traffic in and out and the fact that it houses an air base meant that Air Force 1 was a regular sight in the skies above town. They used to fly to Harrisburg to practice touch and gos which were awesome to watch from the cell phone lot of the airport right next to the fence.1 point

Because you’re #1 that’s why. Yeah I have 3 jobs but I tend to load up PASR for #2 or late at night. Yesterday was an unusually slow day so I figured I’d finally say hi, and today’s snow slowed things down too.1 point

So, you're between three jobs, ski once a year and yet spend enough time lurking on this site as the thread clearly shows. Why, if you don't mind me asking?1 point

Just because you haven't fit into a medium since you were 8 years old doesn't mean you need to be jelly.1 point

Blue runs are more like a minute and a half. Switchback is about 45 seconds long but takes some time on tuts lane to get there from the peak and then another minute or so on shuttle and the falls. Let me know when you’re coming to Blue on a weekday. I’ll try to bribe my boss with some pierogies to get the day off.1 point

Hey all. Got the terrible news sent to me by a couple people so I figured I’d pop back on. Ive officially made the decision to start wearing a helmet the next time I ride. After 15ish years of riding and having my first “real” injury on a snow or skateboard it’s put some things in perspective. Not to mention I saw first hand a head trauma injury (I believe) in the ski patrol shack when I was in there and it was very frightening. Currently taking a lil break from PASR because it’s tough to read when I can’t ride. Sorry, just being honest. I still pop on every couple days to catch up. Keep rippin!1 point
