  2. A few of us from here, and others we know, are heading out to Jackson today and over the weekend. @mute1080 and I will be there around noon to meet Ryan if everything stays as scheduled. We’ll be sure to keep the updates coming! Lots of skiing, food, beer, and lifestyle pictures to follow! Think snow! jadip

  8. I'm done. Went just short of bell to bell; the legs were done. Finished with a 3000 plus vert Parons run to mid mountain to the base. Great ski day today.

  12. Just got to the condo at the bridges. Spicy drive up with steady snow from Albany on. Glad I bought a truck. Plan for tomorrow is to get first chair and mostly groomers to get the legs back under all of us.Probably about 3” new on the ground. Forecast is a balmy high of 15 tomorrow. I’ll try to update this as best as possible as well as take a few pictures. First time outside of PA on two planks, should make for an interesting few days.

  18. A warning? I doubt anybody is getting away with a warning this week. Their goal is clearly to patch some budget holes by the end of the month. No, he gave me a break and issued a $54 failure to follow signs and directions ticket with "an easy way to pay online". No points.

  19. No breakfast. Not really a hotel. More like a bunch of cabins. In room coffee though and I stocked up on nature valley bars at the gas station last night so I'm good.

  21. You are correct. Tree density is determined largely by canopy width at full maturity which is related to 10000 things but quality of the soil is pretty major. The ADK's skiing region is mostly slope spruce with very rocky soils. ADK is part of the canadian shield mtns not the Appalachians. The mtns are not old, the Apps are worn down ancient mtns but the daks are stupid old bedrock that was forced up as a result of the last ice age (10k years). VT Green mtns are the apps and alot of skiing lies withing the southern and northern piedmont region where soil is better and there are more northern hardwoods which are slightly wider spaced because they get bigger canopies. Basically the upper portions of the Daks are spruce and balasm fir that are packed together because the ground sucks to grow in, 2500 ft and below in the Daks where the soil is better and there are more Northern Hardwoods which go all the way to the top in VT except Mansfield which has Krummholz. ADK Krummholz is much lower and there are large sections of lichen and non tree areas in the Daks which are way more rare in VT. ADK glades ski really well too it's just a much different place than the Greens or Whites. Here are some good resources about the trees in these regions - https://www.esf.edu/aec/adks/forestcomm.htm https://www.fs.fed.us/ne/newtown_square/publications/resource_bulletins/pdfs/2003/ne_rb158.pdf

  22. Not many people here at all. Gore guy on the gondi was complaining about crowds here. I told him that he should ski PA if he wants to experience real crowds. Dude seemed pretty clueless

  26. So I picked the wrong day then. Oh well, at least the slopes were empty, and no enforced speed limits either. Btw, NJ troopers are really going nuts this week. Full front attack. Speed traps along I-278, I-78, and not just in their usual spots. Saw one yesterday standing on the side of the interstate in a random place shooting laser gun through a slightly open door back at the traffic. In 5 miles another one, standing on a ramp sideways and again pointing laser through driver's window. Was actually pulled over on empty I-287 on early Saturday morning for going just 73mph in 65mph zone. Path to Blue becomes more treacherous than skiing Paradise.

  28. A friend of mine used to keep just cases upon cases of beer in his garage. Like way more than what anyone would need for a weekend of drinking with 20 of his drinking buddies. When i asked him why so much, his response was "i would rather be drunk looking at it, than drunk driving around looking for it." Same can be applied for air travel. I would rather be looking a the plane, rather than running to the plane. Hope everyone heading out has good travel experiences. Have a shitload of fun, and keep it safe.

  29. Arrived in the LP not too long ago. Snowed pretty much from the Catskills to Lake Placid. Didn't make road conditions too terrible on 87 but definitely forced me to keep the speeds down a bit. Still made pretty good time despite that. 73 (the road through Kean into LP) was sketchy in spots (pic below) which hopefully means good things for conditions on the mountain tomorrow. The stoke levels are pretty high right now. Headed to town now to find food and maybe a birthday present for my wife.

  30. Hey All, I’m back from a fun night session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 640Pm and a few minutes later Atomic Jeff arrived and then Enjorales. Also in the house were MBike mike and Matt edge. Temperatures were in the upper 20s with light winds and a few random snowmaking cannons were blowing snow onto an already deep and solid base. Both the quad and the six pack ran until 8pm and the it was just the six pack. There were a solid amount of people out with a double digit amount of buses. I only skied razors and nightmare to dreamweaver. Both were semi fast and had very edgable snow..more on the chalk side than hardpack. I did Razors about 2/3 of the runs because you gotta get it while it’s open and I still don’t love nightmare to dreamweaver due to a few Root rollers. Skied until like 8:45pm then spent an hour in the lot drinking beer and shooting the shit. Was a fun session and ends a really nice month of skiing where I skied 17 times..not as good as back when I’d ski nearly everyday but I’m on a nice pace for 70 ski days which I can’t complain about. I’m confident with the deep base and cold forecast blue will make it into April perhaps mid April. Ski everybody who’s not in Canada, Jackson hole, sugarbush, whiteface, Greek peak and Taos this weekend.

  33. By this logic you should skip a year w/o passes. Because having two sets of passes for one spring is definitely wasteful, no matter whether it's for the same mountain or two.

  41. Looking like 1 - 3 inches of snow officially with bright sunshine this morning. Upper Empire is listed as closed as is Lookout Below. Hoyts High however is reopened as well as everything else I care about skiing (not counting the slides of course). Should be fun!
