  1. Day 2 in the books and what a day it was. Knowing it was gonna be a blue-bird day, the plan was to get first tram to the top and check out Corbet’s. @toast21602 was very interested in checking it out and only had a couple of hours before his flight to do it. I told him we were getting the 7:30 bus to the base, which is what we did. We arrived at the base about 7:40 to 4 degrees and sunny. There was already some back-country dude, so we queued up behind him. Shortly thereafter @toast21602 rolled in. Slim has been on the tram yesterday and knew that the platform switched sides and also saw a ski patroller standing on the side opposite the side to view Corbet’s, so we lined up behind him. He let us in on the secret that most times that side’s gate opens first, which it did and we all bolted for the Corbet’s corner windows.to get a view of it on the way up. Out the tram and down to Corbet’s to have a look. The entrance was like a freaking vertical half cylinder! @toast21602 and I had a chat on how to drop in and nothing seemed feasible. I really didn’t think he was gonna try it, but the next thing I see is him dropping in, turning the corner and disappeared from my view. Someone above yelled that he’d made it and was good. We tried to get together afterwards, but never did and he had to leave to catch his flight. As we went down Rondezvous, people were talking about @toast21602 and our man Rick yells to them “He’s from Pennsylvania!” The rest of the day was pretty much a carbon copy of yesterday, since the only good snow was on Northern aspects. We did a bunch of Thunder woods which seems to hold the snow quite well and there’s lots of places to play. They groomed Bivouac, so Thunder was the bump run of choice. Apre was at the Moose again, where many beers were drank, some in celebration of @toast21602‘s achievement, others just for having another day in Jackson Hole paradise! 2. Finalizing a CO trip for early April. Flying out after work April 3rd and back home late April 6th. I booked the flight via Southwest a month or so ago for a whopping $ 117. I figured if the trip didn't work out, Southwest is good about flight changes/cancellations. Planning on hitting Loveland and A-Basin. I should be able to get 3 full days in. Normally I do a week, but this is my first trip out west since my daughter was born, so it's not really fair to the wife to leave them alone that long.

  3. Hi dickheads, today was a ridiculously good Taos day for me. I met up with some TGR guys and had to step the game up a bit. Did 5 west basin hikes which might be a record for me. Hit Meatball, Hidden Chute, Waterfowl, Zdarsky and Stauffenburg. Had never hit hidden chute and waterfowl before, but it was nice to have a couple crash test dummies to follow down the gnarly lines. Aside from West B, I skied Pollux twice, hit the Bambi chutes, longhorn, als run and Werner trees. Had shin deep powder on a few runs, and there wasn’t a rock to be found. Coverage is soooo good right now (for Taos). Kachina still closed, maybe manana! Went almost bell to bell, I’m fucking exhausted. I’ll have a bunch of good pics of me, but waiting to get them sent to me. For now... Longhorn choke Meatball apron New buds exiting Zdarsky Stauffy Bambi chute Obligatory kachina shot Laters ya pieces of shit.

  4. I just wanted to let everyone know that, after consulting with friends, family, former high school classmates, book club members, neighbors and random strangers, that I've narrowed my season pass choices for the 19-20 ski season to the following 5 areas... 1) Blue Mt. 2) Blue Mountain the True Mountain 3) Blu 4) Booter Mountain 5) Little Gap ski area I just wanted to keep you all in the loop. I'll have my decision made by Thursday March 21st at approximately 4:49 pm. Thank you.

  7. Actually we have a few good cooks on the trip. We plan on heading into town tonight, since we’re skiing Grand Targhee today and won’t want to cook when we get back.

  8. Hey All, I’m back from a fun night session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 642pm and in the house were Atomic Jeff and Johnny Law. Temperatures were in the low 20s with moderate winds. There were only five buses but those darn kids were annoying AF Ski conditions were good..id say a 7.25 out of 10 mainly packed powder some chop not much of any ice snow a little snow I skied ten runs in total from 655-840 including five razors, two NMDW, one challenge, one Main Street and one paradise I liked razors the best and challenge and lower Main the least The base is rock solid and deep I see no reason that they don’t go till the second weekend in April for the culture!!!

  12. Snow is moving in!!! Looks decent on the radar...get ready to put the hammer down..the gondola to thunder to sublette start is perfect on a perder day..get high but tram not always great because rendezvous bowl can be zero visibility and not as forgiving of a start as amphitheater and grand or Laramie..

  14. Same. See you and Saltman there!

  15. Not significantly for sure. And let's not forget that in order to get decent skiing on any mountain here you need to hit it in the early morning. The longer drive will make wakeups unbearable, and hotels will negate all the savings. Plus gas. Plus you'll be tired. Plus "are we there yet?" This thread is gonna have an Agatha Christie kind of an ending with a purchase of another round of BM passes.

  16. That sucks. I cant imagine too many Gettysburg area /Maryland locals are going to see the hunter, Crotched, Mt. Snow etc. options as a perk. I wouldn't drive 7 hours or so for Mt. Snow. That's insane. Would be quicker and easier to fly to Denver for SLC.

  21. My work schedule didn’t allow for me to travel to Blue today, so I took the opportunity to go Nordic skiing. I did 5 miles in the beautiful woods of Loantaka. I had to break trail for the first 1.5 miles. Tiring and it took me a while to find my stride. After that, there were enough skiers out and one I was in the tracks I really found my groove. A beautiful sunny day and no wind. I don’t do this often enough.

  22. I’ve had a couple real nice days in Albuquerque, a nice run, some hiking in an old volcanic area with ancient native drawings all over the place, some good New Mexican food and beers. Packed up this morning and heading up to the mountains now.

  25. I was there from late morning til 5:15- gorgeous bluebird day- kept lapping the HS6, got tons of vertical- conditions were excellent, everyone I talked to on the lifts were saying what a great day it was- lots of tracks in the woods, never seen so many- did you notice that the future trail next to Paradise was carved up by poachers?...….

  27. Then get a peak pass so you can ski hunter every other weekend when you don’t have the twins.

  28. You get ruled by two underage women. Be a man and get three Mountain Creek passes. Dirt cheap, close, has three majestic mountains in one and you won't be called a gaper there. Ski it every day because it's in your backyard. No need to drive for half a day to be hit with crowds and same sheets of eastern ice as here.

  31. People die in their 50s all the time. We’ve set entire truckloads of tombstones of people born in the 50s and 60s but luckily most people make it to at least age 75 for men and 80 for women...

  36. Ski2Live you are already thinking about if you might take a ski trip out west with a buddy next season. Steeze Louise I thought you were coming with us to Jackson hole or perhaps Verbier with Salty and Matt Edge. Why not Ikon plus a blue pass. That’s what I’d do.

  37. Peak seems to make the most sense for you and your twins (pimp). EPIC and IKON won’t have anything in PA/NJ so you would probably ski less.

  39. Ist day.. Hopped on the Snow Bus at 11:10. Warmed up to 0° by that time. After a 22 min ride we hopped of at the base lodge. Brilliant sunshine and no wind brought out a larger crowd said a local. It was also Montanas' Special Olympics day. But there was no wait at any lift we were on. Spent the next 2 1/2 hrs cruising the Blues and exploring a small portion of the 3000 acres, 126 trails. Dad went off the back side and did some trees. The surface was great, soft bumps, smooth grooming, wide trails. Tons of fun! Hit the bar, checked our skis overnight, and caught the 3:15 bus and headed to town. On the bus we ran into the locals who gave us the tips this morning. They introduced us to the bartenders at the Great Northern microbrewery and we bought them a beer. Super friendly and down to earth, fellow Old Pharts. Showers, then and a carb, and grease filled meal at the Bulldog Bar. Rated as one of the nations top dives and we agree, plus their fresh breaded mushrooms were the best any of us has ever had. Now watching the "behind the scenes" of Caddyshack and cracking up, with a Yukon Jack in hand... night all.. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  42. Took a nice scenic drive up north. We checked out the rio grande gorge which was cool. Lots of clouds covering the mountains, hoping a nice layer of fresh snow is up there. I noticed that Kachina has been closed the last several days due to control work. Maybe it opens again tomorrow if I’m lucky!

  43. Nice to see you’re giving the Mangy Moose some more business. I’ve helped bands there put equipment on the stage cause I’m such a nice guy. A shame there’s no more Village Cafe, you guys would have loved that..it was in the 7 levels building which is where the Calderra house currently is, the building next to the Tram building. It had a coffee shop, T-shirt shop, rental shop, was home to Teton gravity’s offices and the bar was on the bottom level..played ski movies from a projected, had pizza slices and back in the hippie days people would often get naked and run to one of the base area pools or hot tubs and jump in. Not long ago like 10 years ago Bob Dylan showed up at the Village cafe during an open mic night. Imagine that..he’s no Huey Lewis but still legit.

  44. Corbet’s ✔️ Took an early bus, met up with PASR round 3 crew for first tram. Dropped Corbet’s, down to the Cirque, and into Amphitheater. Now time for a few cruisers before taking the bus back to town for an afternoon flight. JA-fucking-DIP

  45. Our first ski day at Jackson Hole and it didn’t disappoint. Even though we didn’t get much fresh, it flurried at the top most of the day so we had some new snow in which to play. Started the day at typical o-dark-thirty due to being in East Coast time and adrenaline. Made our way to the base, arriving around 8:15 to an empty gondola line. Shortly after more people arrived, but wasn’t anything major. Blue Mountain crew, first in line! While waiting for the open, i happens to look back at the line and wait! Could it be? The best skiers on the mountain: @toast21602 and @mute1080! They opened the gondola on time and we rode the first civilian gondola to start the day off right. Up the gondola and cruised down Amphitheater to Thunder. Couldn’t really let loose due to the flat light, flurries and thoughts of GSS sliding down the mountain racing through my mind. At the top of Thunder, @toast21602 and @mute1080 caught up to us and after a few intros and discussions, decided to take Grand and up Sublette. From Sublette we went over to Bivouac woods, which had plenty of snow and were lots of fun! We lapped Sublette a few times, allowing everyone to pick where they wanted to go/try and then regrouping at the lift. Lines were starting to increase at Sublette, so we left and made our way over to Apre-Vous and dropped into Saratoga to check it out, minor mistake. Due to its lower altitude and exposure, the snow was crusty and annoying. Had to stay to the North side of the slope next to trees to find anything fair. We bolted outta there. Took the gondola up to Rondezvous lodge to eat our packed lunch, while @toast21602 and @mute1080 made a run. A few of us rode up w/ an instructor from NH and we discussed the Ikon pass issue and he tipped us on where to ski the rest of the day. We made our way back to Thunder and lapped Tower Three and the Thunder trees until our legs gave out and called beer:30, while others pressed on. Moose on the loose! Who poured that beer? Cough @toast21602 Moose taint and titties for @GrilledSteezeSandwich Blue is everywhere! All in all, one of the most fun ski days I’ve ever had. It was a pleasure spending the day skiing around Jackson Hole with @toast21602, the best skier on the mountain, @mute1080, perhaps the second best skier on the mountain (those two can fight it out), @tarponhead, I’ll let him decide where he stands in the rankings and a bunch of Blue Mountain bumpers. So glad I got the opportunity to come out here and share the experience, even though I’m like the 734 best skier at Blue, I don’t even rank with skiers out here!
