Hey PASRs! It's Sally here with a check-in from the Green Mountains! I saw Salty's excellent trip report from CBK and I was inspired to see if I could do a sort of Greatest Hits Report of what's been going on up here, ski-wise. I do genuinely miss skiing at Blue; miss the night-skiing, miss the lot. I even smoke more weed than Doug now. Anyway, here's the haps from up north: I have a lightly-used VT Gold Pass; it’s the catch-22 of working in the ski industry: All the perks you could want and no time to use ‘em. I do ski at Magic whenever I get a chance. Love that place for leaving intermediate trails ungroomed for us mere mortals and plodding intermediates. S6 tends to roll up the carpets early in the season, so when we close, I hope to get out for some spring skiing. Ascutney Outdoors, for whom I was doing a shite-ton of volunteer social media and PR work, has turned out to be full of assholes, and I'm glad their stupid rope tow keeps un-fraying. (The first time it happened, I was still doing PR for them and I had to announce the shut-down. I posted: "Rope Tow this weekend? 'FRAID NOT!" ) Anyhoo, I asked those jerkfaces if I could reduce the number of hours I was volunteering for them. They told me it wasn’t that much work and probably I was lazy and inefficient, then they kicked me off the board. I felt like Fredo in The Godfather II. I didn't get in their fucking rowboat, though. ^Trash. Fuck them.^ Presidents’ week we were booked solid and jammin’ in the ski school. Then a young instructor called out for the day and it screwed up the schedule completely. Then I saw him skiing. I said “Mike, did you seriously call out so you could come ski. HERE!?” He said yes. Because he’s a dumbass. I told our mountain manager, who said, like a really nice-but-angry Jabba The Hut: “BRING HIM TO ME.” I bet Mike felt a lot like Fredo in that moment, too. We haven’t seen him since, come to think of it… Here’s my interaction with every tenth customer: ME: “Do you know how to use the wicket?” CUSTOMER: “Yes, of course. <<eye roll>>.” (Three seconds pass) CUSTOMER: “Can I… uh, have another ticket? <<Shows me a crumpled lift ticket stuck awkwardly to itself and the wicket, but NOT attached to the customer’s jacket.>> I showed up at a night-time snowshoe that takes place every Thursday night. Everyone was on xc skis or snow-trekkers (Altai Hoks or BD Glide Lites). They said it was no problem, they’d wait for me. I was like, I’m not that slow, why would they have to wait for me? Then we got to the top of a big pasture and stood chatting and enjoying the beautiful night sky. When it was time to go down, the skiers/trekkers all said BYE! and shushed off through the fresh powder. I was like “@#$%^&*“ snowshoes!!!”. So now I have me some BD Glide Lite 147s with AT bindings on them. Getting them mounted today; will report back. That's about it. I tried snowboarding and fell a lot and it sucked. And my cat's still a jerk. Hope the spring skiing in PA is awesome! Best wishes to everyone! Sally out!10 points

Just settling in after a great day at Taos. Started my day off with the What Chutes, and doodled around in some trees. I planned to make a hike up to hit Trescow or Twin Trees and I saw that the gate to Kachina Peak was open! Hikers only special, hell yeah! Made the killer hike and dropped in to K5 for amazing fresh turns all the way down. As good as it gets at Taos, not a single mogul to be found yet. I skied Hunziker and El Funko, had some lunch and then made a hike back up and did Twin Trees chute which was pretty good. Did a couple runs down Castor/Pollux, then made a hike up to St. Bernard. I’m skiing better than I ever have and finally mastered the narrow choke in St Bernard. Finished it up with a run down Pipeline, had a pretty sick wipeout, I’m okay but it was time to call it a day. Great times, I love this place! What chutes Kachina Twin Trees7 points

Day 3 was Grand Targhee. The bus arrived out front of our condo around 7. We all were expecting a tour bus, but it was one of those mini party busses instead. We loaded all our stuff in and then headed over to the village to pick up even more people! On our way to GT, while going through the pass, tons of back-country slider tracks could be seen on the surrounding mountain tops. Unfortunately the crappy bus windows were all fogged, so no pictures were possible. We arrived at GT to beautiful sunshine, despite the forecast of clouds. We booted up inside and made our way out to the slopes. GT is not a big mountain at all, having only 3 lifts, so we should be able to get to all the slopes we want to in a day. Took the dreamcatcher quad up to an expansive snowfield at the top, dotted with pines covered in rime ice. Off in the distance, Grand Teton could be seen. Took a warm up run down Crazy Horse that was groomed to perfection and with nobody on it, we could really get going. We had to be alert for the islands of trees right in the middle of the run though. Back up the quad and down in search of Slim’s Shot for one of our bumpers, Slim, to get a pic. We made our way out to the Sacajawea lift area to check out the conditions over there. This mountain faces West, so it was a bit difficult finding good snow. Off the lift we were eyeing up Bobcat, but decided against trying it out until we saw it from across the gulch. Down Dreamweaver and into Quiver to some horrible, crusty snow. This wasn’t where the goods were! Up Sacajawea again and down through Northern Lights which is a small bowl that faces Northwest, which was mostly chowder. Still no joy. Then it was down Wachabe Woods, which had small pockets of powder, but nothing worth repeating. Headed down to the lodge for a quick lunch and watch some hucksters throw their meat off the booters in the park up from the lodge. A great viewing point for crashes that didn’t disappoint. Some guy came down who threw a couple of tweaks off the first two booters and then into the third tried a backflip but under rotated and tipped in for a spectacular crash. He collected himself and skied down but didn’t go back up. After lunch we made our way out to the Blackfoot lift area which also had disappointing snow. It was skiable, but not vary much fun. However, from the lift we could see a cornice of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, which we decided to try. We made our way down the Headwall and through some of the lower trees. This area had some promise! Saw another guy come down and asked him how the snow up near the cornice was, to which he replied “Best snow on the mountain. Don’t tell anyone else”. All we needed to hear! The remainder of the day was spent jumping off the cornice and down through the lower woods that did have the best snow in the mountain. The thighs were scorched after that. The bus back to JH boarded at 4 and Headed back to the condo for a meal of bison burgers. Overall, once we found the snow at GT our spirits lifted and turned what we thought was gonna be meh into another great day in the Tetons. If you’re out this way it’s worth the trip over, in my opinion. I wouldn’t make it a destination or do it multiple times, but once a trip is perfect. Theyre forecasting some snow overnight, so hopefully we get some fresh powder to play in tomorrow, as we’re a bit fed up with the sun, much to the dismay of the locals. Sun pillar in the morning View from the top Slim found his run Random shot Grand Teton They know about Blue in the Tetons! The Ugly woods Clocktower and village at night Bison burgers for dinner. Delicious! Nightcap. Quite tasty!7 points

Hi dickheads, today was a ridiculously good Taos day for me. I met up with some TGR guys and had to step the game up a bit. Did 5 west basin hikes which might be a record for me. Hit Meatball, Hidden Chute, Waterfowl, Zdarsky and Stauffenburg. Had never hit hidden chute and waterfowl before, but it was nice to have a couple crash test dummies to follow down the gnarly lines. Aside from West B, I skied Pollux twice, hit the Bambi chutes, longhorn, als run and Werner trees. Had shin deep powder on a few runs, and there wasn’t a rock to be found. Coverage is soooo good right now (for Taos). Kachina still closed, maybe manana! Went almost bell to bell, I’m fucking exhausted. I’ll have a bunch of good pics of me, but waiting to get them sent to me. For now... Longhorn choke Meatball apron New buds exiting Zdarsky Stauffy Bambi chute Obligatory kachina shot Laters ya pieces of shit.4 points

Pro tip: Fold the ticket in half before you expose the adhesive. Makes the process less like an I Love Lucy episode. Oh, totally forgot: I turned 50 and competed in a downhill fatbike race in the same week. I just rode my regular bike, though, not a fattie. Bottom line: if you ever get the chance to ride dh in the winter, you should do it; it's a ridiculous blast!2 points

My work schedule didn’t allow for me to travel to Blue today, so I took the opportunity to go Nordic skiing. I did 5 miles in the beautiful woods of Loantaka. I had to break trail for the first 1.5 miles. Tiring and it took me a while to find my stride. After that, there were enough skiers out and one I was in the tracks I really found my groove. A beautiful sunny day and no wind. I don’t do this often enough.2 points

Hey All, I’m back from a fun night session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 642pm and in the house were Atomic Jeff and Johnny Law. Temperatures were in the low 20s with moderate winds. There were only five buses but those darn kids were annoying AF Ski conditions were good..id say a 7.25 out of 10 mainly packed powder some chop not much of any ice snow a little snow I skied ten runs in total from 655-840 including five razors, two NMDW, one challenge, one Main Street and one paradise I liked razors the best and challenge and lower Main the least The base is rock solid and deep I see no reason that they don’t go till the second weekend in April for the culture!!!1 point

That was great, please write more reports! I love the real life experiences from working at a ski resort and dealing with lazy coworkers and the general public who don't know how lift pass stickers work. I was a lift attendant for 2 years, and the guy I worked with had some issues. The ticket window was at the top of the mountain, and a teenager skied down to us without a lift pass because none of the workers ever checked tickets. But that day, my co-worker decided to check tickets, and every time the skier got on the lift, he would shut it down. "No ticket, no ride". Then the skier actually tried walking up a black diamond to get back to the ticket window, and when he realized the futility of it he threw down his rental skis in a fit of rage. Utter stupidity making a skier walk back up a mountain. Eventually he called management and was allowed to ride back up. Edit: I actually found the picture of them reunited later that day!1 point

Thats a great price if you take advantage of it, like you have. But anybody over 29 that has no intention of skiing anything other than their home mountain just kinda ends up paying more for a pass to their home mountain.1 point

I was there from late morning til 5:15- gorgeous bluebird day- kept lapping the HS6, got tons of vertical- conditions were excellent, everyone I talked to on the lifts were saying what a great day it was- lots of tracks in the woods, never seen so many- did you notice that the future trail next to Paradise was carved up by poachers?...….1 point

You probably wont know this, but it sounds like they built this last night or this morning? Yesterday there were like Taylor Swift sized bumps, but now it sounds like they are Kim Kardashian sized bumps? I thought NMDW was pretty flat yesterday.1 point

Hey all, I’m back from a fun morning session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I was starving like Marvin on the drive up didn’t really eat anything since noon yesterday except for some pretzels and hummus. Stopped at Sheetz and had fried egg, bacon, cheddar, tomato, onion and salsa on an everything bagel and OJ..arrived at the lower lot at 750am and shadows and JFDan were in the house and the temperature was in the upper 20s with moderate winds. 6-7” of new snow had fallen between about 4pm and 1am. First civilian chair and skied razors which had been groomed but some little ripples of new snow..fierce headwind from the north though. We were also joined by GahSkier George for a few runs. Sidewinder was nice and the Root rollers were more like pillows..scores some untracked lower left under the six pack...Right side of nightmare bumps had some nice fresh as well along with X-ing and left side of Barneys. As the morning progressed a decent amount of people showed up and there was a couple minute long liftline by like 10am. Seemed like about half season passholders. With breaks of sunshine illuminating the new snow today could have been a day for brochure pictures. If you’ve been waiting for good ski conditions and all trails open...This Is It!!!1 point

Well and Enjorales liked the skiing conditions yesterday and I thought it was kind of meh maybe he likes it hard..I mean the snow. Different slopes for different folks. If we all liked the same thing they’d run out of KFC mashed potatoes.1 point

Very good snow today, enjoyed everything but lower Main Street. I swear that Upper and Lower Main must be groomed by two different people. How can Upper be sooo good and Lower so bad? And where this the find those ice balls after the snow was so good yesterday? Tough to complain much about that though, when everything else was so good. Just have to be ready to check it up heading into Lower Main, no matter how good it was up top. Got on the snow about 8:15, not sure if anyone was able to sneak into Razors or NMDW but all three were closed when we made it to the top. Started with a run down Switchback and it was smooth cord with only a few tracks. A great run down and back up for a Sidewinder lap. We’ve started trying to hit Sidewinder pretty early before the bottom gets destroyed by traffic checking up for the Lazy intersection. Had planned on doing Lower Sidewinder but ran into some super slow traffic towards the bottom, so when they dropped into Lower I bailed over to Falls instead. Pops didn’t get the memo and continued into Lower, I watched from Falls and dropped in to meet him on Homestretch. Another great run and it was back up to complete the blues with a Lazy lap. Great snow again, had a small ventral ridge groomed in about halfway down, was fun when I found that by accident, but no big deal. Took Lower Sidewinder that time and back to the six pack where we found the crowd was big enough for a liftie out grouping people together, but none on scene yet. This led to a couple of little kids trying to simultaneously force their way through the crowd to the front (to the point where one of them had their skis on top of my dad’s tips) while turning to motion to their friends to come join them. Then at the load, three snowboarders went out together from the left chute in front of us to join the four skiers coming out of the other two. Now, this might be fine in a few years after Vail puts in the 8 person lift, but it wasn’t gonna end well today. I started yelling “Too many, too many, one of you had to stay back!” and luckily one of them heard and scooted back in time to avoid a chair shutdown. Pops and I scooted out to ride with the lone boarder since no one from the other two chutes moved out. Actually had a nice chat on the ride up. We decided to take a Burma chair ride to hit Widowmaker and give the six pack line a chance to normalize with a liftie, so took Main down and discovered the variable grooming. The top was so good though. Up Burma to Widowmaker and it was so good we had to rip it three times with Vista chair rides between. Good opportunity for a Mikes Harder on the lift. Back in the valley we opted for a quad ride, where there was no liftie but the wait was pretty short. Took another Switchback run and stopped halfway down to help a kiddo get his skis back on and underway so his dad could stop skating 50yards uphill. Finished the run and headed up the 6. Liftie out, little wait. On the way up we discussed another Lazy run, but I decided to run Sidewinder down to the cut over to Lazy before the last bit, and arrived there the same time as Pops who must have been going balls out to get there just before me. Headed down and took the six again for another Switchback and made it down without a stop that time. It was almost time to head out and start grilling, the snow was just too good though and we needed one more. Decided on the quad and on the way up noticed that NMDW and Razors had opened, so we decided to run Nightweaver. But once we got to the drop in I couldn’t turn down Razors so I ran that while Pops ran nightweaver. Met up at the bottom and headed out to the lot. After a fun sausage Sunday (highlight was the pulled pork flatbreads; the Sam’s Choice sausages from Wal Mart were pretty tasty too) my wife showed up with the boys and we took my 5 year old over for his first timer lesson with Niko. He did well and had fun but struggles to even make a wedge, so we’ll have to work on that. He still wanted to ski so we drove up to the summit and make a few more runs down the school hill up there. Put his little backpack on him and thought I would use the leash deals to send him down ahead of me and control his speed that way, but found it was easier to just grab the straps of the pack and ski down with him between my skis. Yeah, he wasn’t really doing or learning anything, but just getting him the feeling of going downhill and excited to be on skis I’m counting as a win.1 point
