Thanks for starting the thread mixiplix. Closing day was a lot of fun and a nice long day for me at Blue the true in sub tropical weather. I arrived at the lower lot at 720am after a quick stop at Sheetz for some parking lot snacks. The temperature was in the lower 50s under mostly cloudy sky’s. In the house were Root, Niko, MBike Mike, NMSki and kids, PSUFly, Mixiplix, Bethlehem ford guy, Enjorales, Pops, Nastar Glenn, Justo, Rose, GSSucks, Indiggio, TheRealKT, Ty and many others. Was a leisurely start and didnt get first chair until about 8:03AM..started on razors which was pretty smooth but still pretty firm. Then sidewinder which had a few technical spots but was better than expected. Lazy mile was super nice and Main Street has nice grooming on the top half and a little tougher lower down. Apparently the bathroom on switchback has thin cover. After a solid hour and forty minutes of skiing I went back to the lot to remove my jacket and have some beer. Bethlehem ford Guy also had some fine meats cheese and crackers. The sun was shining bright and a nice parking lot scene. Closer to noon I returned to the mighty slopes of Blue the true for some more runs. Sidewinder, paradise were all good along with a lift beer. Then back to the lot again after five or six runs of corn snow and MBike Mike was grilling up some sausage. I ended up peacing our just before 2pm and already around 75 degrees out in the valley.7 points

Totally agree: sometimes the days that promise from the forecast to be awful turn out to be really fun and uncrowded. I'm stuck in an airport killing time, so here is some info: Paradise is a green trail and very easy. It's long and wide but not steep. It's easier than Burma because it's not as twisty and the snow doesn't pile up at the turns. Lazy Mile is labeled a blue trail but it is really green as long as you head toward the double chair at the bottom intersection. Again, it's super-wide, not steep. The only downside of LM is that it can get crowded with kids straight-lining their way down it, barely in control. I don't know names for snow types necessarily, just that what you get a Blue is some of everything, but also a lot of hard, firm snow and lots of granular snow over ice, and that stuff (the latter) tends to form sand-dune-like on the sides of the trail. I like to ski the sand dunes instead of the ice. It's uneven and forces you/teaches you to maintain good balance. Don't avoid difficult snow: it shows you a lot about how you're progressing (or not). On the plus side, soft spring snow is great because it allows you to ski harder trails comfortably on account of having so much easy grip. I moved to Vermont last year so am not around Blue these days otherwise I would be very happy to ski with you. Ask the posters here to ski a run or two with you andor to tell you what they see from the lift. That is really valuable feedback. I'm 50 and only started skiing a few years ago. I stagnated for a long while as a low-intermediate plodding skier, which was frustrating. This year I worked on my form a bit more diligently and it made a big difference. Bottom line, I got out of the backseat by shoving my Downstairs Lady Parts forward over my feet (instead of the bent-knee-crouching-thing I'd been doing) and pressured my new downhill edge much sooner. The combo of those two actions got me off my quads, out of the backseat, and skiing a lot faster and more controlled. Fun!). So don't feel as though you can't progress just because you started later in life. Plus the learning is fun; and when it's not fun, there's a bar at the summit, a bar in the valley, and beer and good company in the lot! Good luck! Sally6 points

Had a really fun time today. The kids had a blast, and big thanks to everyone for being such good sports with them and showing them a great time in the lot. The kids skied every open run except widow maker, had some frisbee fun in the lot, and came up with some killer nicknames for fellow PASRs. This might be a wrap on my season, if so it was a good way to go out. Much love to everyone that made this season a great one. Hope to maybe drink some beers or ride some bikes over the summer.4 points

If I wasn’t so tired from skiing and beer and food I’d give you some snow definitions. There’s dozens of snow conditions. All have their merits. Season pass is the key because you walk right to the lifts no need to mess with a ticket line and if it’s a marginal day likes chance of showers you can still ski a little and sometimes those days turn out to be the best days. The ski season is too short to cherrypick your days.3 points

What you're saying would be true and relevant if they also weren't selling season passes. Once they start doing it, all talks about one or two weeks being non profitable are moot. They didn't do a thing yet to justify me paying them for the 20/21 pass, so I feel at a great loss already.2 points

Welcome! Agree that a season pass will get you on snow more and you'll progress faster. Blue is a great mountain for learning, it's just tricky to avoid the crowds. But night skiing gets you a lot of practice time and Paradise and Lazy Mile are great trails to learn on. Go even when the weather and/or the snow sucks, you'll still have fun and learn a lot. Enjoy!2 points

Good skiing here, at CB. On average snow is worse than what's been at Blue in the middle of the week. The number of greenish ice/water spots has definitely increased since last weekend, especially on the very west side of the mountain where it's been firm and icy in the early morning. I didn't know yesterday why I decided to sharpen my skis all of a sudden, and now I do. Big Pocono and the top to bottom diamonds are veeeery nice, white, soft and fast. The new DD trail reminds me of Lower Sidewinder and is no more difficult than that. In this snow it's kinda boring too. But it's great that they've managed to open a whole new trail even though there is no snowmaking in it. Initially I thought I'd ski the Sullivan express until crowds pick up and then move to Raceway or so, but there's nobody here! Skiing right to the chair with no wait time. And speeding down Honeymoon or Lower Cleopatra is niiiice and refreshing with nobody's on them. Btw, getting a free lift today was a chore. Had to go to guest services, fill out a waiver with addresses and all, and inly then did they give me a ticket. Lack of year stamped on the pass didn't bother them. All in all, Salty, throw away your calendar, for it has screwed you up badly. Everybody who I've been on the lift with had to comment on how nice today is.1 point

Pops took a fall on the inside of the turn from Midway to Main. Went off the trail and hit his elbow on something metal. Skied it out, went up, watched pond skin for awhile. Went in and claimed his mug and had a beer. Ugly-skied down Burma to the valley. When he took his jacket off and I finally got a look at it, I knew stitches were in his future. Thought we were done here but they just came in and said they needed to xray his elbow. Trigger warning - pre and post stitches wound pictures in the next post.1 point

Stop up at the main drop off area and get out to get your comp ticket. Drive down and turn right, despite signs indicating you shouldn't, toward the hotel. Park in the big lot to the right by sunbowl. Walk onto the snow and ski down to the indoor waterpark lift.1 point

Not sure. I’d be happy calling it a season at this point. Probably a 38% chance.1 point

Looks like hero snow to me. Soft and fast. Eaf did you need a face mask? @saltyant always keeps an extra one in case you ever forget you’re. I’m a balaclava guy myself. Nice report and pictures Eaf1 point

Yep I'm out. Have fun today all. Looking at CB tomorrow at some point barring anything crazy. Sucks that I won't be at Blue again this season but I'm happy with the season that was at Blue (except for the bullshit cloudy day closings like yesterday and tomorrow).1 point

I have a 12 pack of perpetual chilling in my freezer. I’m giving it a few degrees more chill to withstand the unseasonably warm weather. The parking lot might be like a Br-Br-Br Brewery but I don’t have a Cooler... im in a little bit of a somber mood which is rare for me but gonna make the best of today and savor every run.1 point

I’m sure Blue has lost money all week. On Wednesday I saw a few on rental skis, so they may have sold a few tickets. Thursday we literally had our own private mountain. Must be next to impossible to turn a profit at a ski area any more. Liability mostly, I would guess.1 point

Look at the bright side. Didn't Blue open first this season? CB was a week or two later if I recall.1 point

One less limited pass today. Renewed my pass to see @enjorales work more of his magic on the flat top next year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Did they *actually* invite you? Or were they just being polite and you are going to milk it for all its worth?1 point

Update: car decided it didn’t want to have its cold return line anymore or any coolant and decided to puke that all over the middle of an intersection.0 points

I'm out.... I did the walk of shame today and took my skis to the basement, took the rack off of the car, and packed up my gear for the season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk0 points

People seem to be be having fun today! Was already offered beer twice on the lift. No CB hot chocolate and cookies though. Maybe Salty was right...0 points
