Opening day at Cannon yesterday. I recognized the conditions right away: "Mid-January Poconos After a Freeze-Thaw Cycle". By 9:30 am the upper trails were scraped-off boilerplate in and out of deep shadow, and the trails that actually had snow were horribly rutted and covered in chicken-head scree. And it was super crowded. Gosh, I was almost homesick! 🙄

Instead of making a new thread every time I go with relatively the same content I figured I’d condense it into one thread. Feel free to post your own reports if you want. 11.24.19 got there at 950 to a light wet snowfall. No real lift lines and a very fun soft snow. Only rode for about 2 hours but we got bored pretty quick. Can’t complain about pre thanksgiving riding.

Can’t really complain for November. The last storm didn’t bring much since it was pretty boney to begin with. But my friend and I had warm temps and sunshine, and of course the ever present park winds. Not bad in the trees but once you get back to the parking lot it’s always windy. Group coming up hot on our heels when we stopped to catch our breath. People really fly skinning up, hope that’s me someday. The sketchier or 2 creek crossings. Some guy flew past us and was quickly out of sight. Transitioning. None of my friends or myself are efficient at this yet. Hey All, I’m back from day 3 at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the upper lot around 810 and in the house were Johnny Law, BenM, Salty, JFDan, Toast, KevinThomas, Mute, Atomic Jeff, Mixilplix, Indiggio, Tarponhead, MBike Mike, Bethlehem ford guy, Eaf, West Chester homeys and many others. Temperatures were in the upper 20s to low 30s under partly sunny sky’s. The 9am opening meant for a lot of people at the rope drop. First run messed up lipstick on a pig second chair this time Main Street chair with Indiggio and some herb ate shit right out the gate skiing faster than his comfort zone. Next run on come around I caught some mad steezy air off the last roller..midway already getting a little rough from all the traffic and super loose granular. Third run on come around to midway choppity chop and not the good kind of chop. Ended up taking a vista lap with Salty and was the first in the lot. Five minutes later like 12 more PASRs in the lot. I hungout for about an hour some went back on the snow some including myself peaced out. It may be softening up some right now. Was good to get out. The base is holding up fantastic as well should be decent coverage still on Root Friday.

Greatest post ever

Salty..about twenty years ago at sugarbush I was stuck on the lift for an hour and a half. I was thinking they’d give our vouchers for another ski day for those who were stuck on the lift but no they gave a voucher for a hot chocolate. I had to sweet talk the lady in the cafeteria to use it for a fountain soda as I had recently quit Cocoa as it was affecting my grades.

Nice meeting you all. I'll echo others about suboptimal conditions, was good to get out tho.

Went for a quick run after work to beat the darkness. Caught this nice view while crossing the river. One of my favorite views in Bethlum.

i never buy into the weather too far out, but i see people talking about a storm signal in the 1st or 2nd of Skicember. If nothing else, it means some cold air will be around. iced up real good here last night....all rain now.

Minor frustration, they were not set up to create the Peak dining card I had ordered in the Spring (paid $250 for $300 value card) so had to pay full freight of $12 for a cheeseburger and 2 dogs. Not being fully integrated with Epic computer system yet is understandable, but they have been with Peak for a year and should have gotten that part together.

That actually looks really good. I wasn't far from there. Was in Gettysburg.

Where were we today?

It was a challenge getting to 50 minutes of ski time today. It takes me 50 minutes to drive one-way to True Blue, and I stuck it out to ensure my total time on the slopes + ski lift was at least equal to my driving time. Today I met my goal and am very proud, since I almost quit after 0.5 runs down Midway. I couldn't possibly quit that early and knew I had to make at least 2 or 3 runs to justify the expense of driving there. Unlike Camelback, where I once quit after 2 runs, there was a great group of folk in the parking lot, and @AtomicSkier even retracted his car mirrors for me. Thanks for offering kudos for venturing beyond the kiddie slopes, and a big shout out to @GrilledSteezeSandwich for checking up on me on the Vista slope.

As always, good seeing you all. The snow was absolute piss, though.
