My friend and I checked out a new area in the Indian Peaks Wilderness today. We had read it was super mellow and dog friendly. The weather was supposed to be partly sunny and not start snowing on the east side of the divide until evening. By the time we drove through the canyon it was snowing hard and very windy. Going up the snow covered dirt road to access our spot the wind picked up and the visibility was poor. We got there about 8 and there was another group about to skin in. We chatted for a bit about route options. I am glad someone else was there because it just felt better knowing someone else would be out there. Once we got in the trees the wind was tolerable. Skinned 1.75 miles in to an open area. There were several options. Some heartier souls kept going up to the ridge above us. It was a steep climb and the wind was whipping again since we were out of the trees. There was also a line below us that looked good, but we would have had to skin back up it to get out. We chose to just transition and go the way we came. Went through some tight trees but the grade was mellow. When I go back in nicer conditions I will play around some more. Some old mining cabin ruins. Open are where I am pointing out the guys on the ridge. On the way out there was some uphill. We couldn’t remember how much of that there was so at first we just kind of herringboned up it. That was gettin pretty tiring and we came across another group. We asked them if they thought it was worth it to put skins back on and they said absolutely. So skins went back on and we continued the last 1/2 mile or so to the car. Overall a stellar day out despite the weather. Of course the sun came out about 5 min before we reached the car. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk9 points

Yeah, after morning beers, @tarponhead and I headed back out for a few left side of Lazy laps that still had even softer and better snow than the opening runs. Made some Main Street runs and check out the lower right side which had some pretty nice snow, but light was flat on that side, The next run, met up with Slim at the top who told us about left ridge on Midway and almost guns n' hoses along lower left of Main Street that was bathed in late morning sun. We lapped that a number of times as the snow was just so good, it was hard to quit. Unfortunately the knees and thighs burned so bad, we retired for beer:30 #2. Best day and snow by far of the season!6 points

Two runs in. Conditions are good to damn good for December 8th. Can ski main top to bottom. Minimal divots and shit on lower main. Festive crowd tonight including two dudes blasting Christmas music on the lift in front of me. Fun times.5 points

Today was the best overall snow day so far I think. Lower main wasn't just negotiable but maybe even better than upper and coming into the blue cloud first run it actually felt like winter. Benm's herrs cheese curls were clutch.5 points

Great time today. Lazy and Upper Main were nice. Lower Main Street was brutal. And GSS never mentions I’m there. Next skiing for me on Wednesday.3 points

@saltyant regardless of your change to bluetooth in-helmet speakers, you're still that guy.2 points

I'd also like to just say that I can't stand when people blast their music in public spaces, especially in nature. Ruins my zen almost as much as Matthew Edgerton.2 points

I will say that I used to be that guy when I started skiing in 2016 - blasting down Fanny Hill at Roundtop while blasting classic Helloween. At least I had the common courtesy to turn the volume down on the ski lift, so people didn't have to listen to my music for 6 minutes in a row. Then I got bluetooth earbuds which were great, but I got tired of them being jammed in my ears. Tried another pair and they were even worse - couldn't hear a damn thing around me. At Elk one guy was talking to me and I said "Huh"? He made a comment about staying away from me on the slopes, for some reason. Then I finally spent the money and bought the in-helmet speakers, and they are great! Outstanding quality, and I don't even feel them in my helmet. And that's all I got to say about that.1 point

Only appropriate on PASR gaper day. It should never be the norm.1 point

Still don’t know how you make that drive so often. I still have nightmares about how brutal it was on a Friday night.1 point

The game plan is to blast "Best Around" from my bluetooth speaker whilst passing Atomic halfway down Lazy Mile, and then maybe Ski2Live's Christmas song on the last run (aka 3rd time down). It will truly be sick.1 point

The $70 daily lift pass once lazy mile opens makes a season pass a no brainer. I’m happy to give Blue that season pass $$$ ahead of time it’s good for their cashflow. Salty tomorrow looks like a good day to ski are you gonna beat us to lazy mile by taking Vista first..asking for a friend @Metz the Jersey boy1 point

Hey All, I’m back from a fun Saturday at Blue mountain the true mountain. In the house were Johnny Law, JFDan, Atomic Jeff, Mute, Ryan, Toast, NMSki, Indiggio, Tarponhead, MBike Mike, Enjorales dad, Matt Edge, TheDude4Bides, Keith, Rodney, Gary, Slim, Dana, Crazy Kathy, Kevin and many more. Temperatures were in the upper 20s rising into the 30s and the snowmaking cannons were blasting on home stretch, tuts lane and a few random spots. The Main Street, Burma and vista lifts were all spinning and the rope drop had mad Tom, Dick and Gary’s in attendance. Conditions at the opening bell were great stiff cord. Lazy mile had some of the best early season conditions I’ve experienced..sure after the first run or two it was crazy mile but the snow held up alright Upper Main Street was so good it deserves its own paragraph..only took three weeks to get it open bahahah..was nice and stiff and lower was pure crud right quick. Weather was mad Goldilocks and was a fun parking lot with chips, pretzels and beer and a lot of PASRs along with indiggios crew later..today was as fun as any pow day or spring day except there was no pow or spring snow..Blue is doing well and I won’t be surprised if the six pack and valley are open next weekend JADIP1 point
