  1. we skied montage yesterday and had a blast. pretty good coverage for early season, and the 5 inches of natural snow from last week's storm helped things out a bit. we did a few warm-up laps on high ball and switch. snow on highball was very nice...so it was prime-time tip-it and rip-it. visibility on switch was a problem, and with the surface undulations (prepping for the terrain park features i presume), care had to be taken with each turn. we spent the rest of the day on the north face, alternating between cannonball and boomer. run of the day was definitely boomer. best snow on the mtn and they left it ungroomed, so a nice mogul field was starting to develop. nothing too crazy, but at least it was nice to get some solid bump practice in on day 2 of the 2019-2020 season. cannonball was OK, but had a lot of traffic on it which was causing some areas to become scraped off. the flats near the lift had a bunch of death cookies early on, but they got mowed down as more ppl hit up that area. we found that the death cookies were not really a problem, even though we were on SL skis, as long as we we skied assertively and kept the skis on edge. apres was at the slocum hollow bar. hot tea and chili was in order after a good day on the slopes. we'll most likely be back up again next weekend.

  2. My friend and I checked out a new area in the Indian Peaks Wilderness today. We had read it was super mellow and dog friendly. The weather was supposed to be partly sunny and not start snowing on the east side of the divide until evening. By the time we drove through the canyon it was snowing hard and very windy. Going up the snow covered dirt road to access our spot the wind picked up and the visibility was poor. We got there about 8 and there was another group about to skin in. We chatted for a bit about route options. I am glad someone else was there because it just felt better knowing someone else would be out there. Once we got in the trees the wind was tolerable. Skinned 1.75 miles in to an open area. There were several options. Some heartier souls kept going up to the ridge above us. It was a steep climb and the wind was whipping again since we were out of the trees. There was also a line below us that looked good, but we would have had to skin back up it to get out. We chose to just transition and go the way we came. Went through some tight trees but the grade was mellow. When I go back in nicer conditions I will play around some more. Some old mining cabin ruins. Open are where I am pointing out the guys on the ridge. On the way out there was some uphill. We couldn’t remember how much of that there was so at first we just kind of herringboned up it. That was gettin pretty tiring and we came across another group. We asked them if they thought it was worth it to put skins back on and they said absolutely. So skins went back on and we continued the last 1/2 mile or so to the car. Overall a stellar day out despite the weather. Of course the sun came out about 5 min before we reached the car. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  17. Excellent conditions at start of each day, getting skied off by the end on the popular trails. Had to be pretty good for my girls to handle the stuff they did. Supposed to rain next two days, so see what happens - but they have a great base and are having best early season ever with a 2 foot dump this week, main face 90% open, and a couple trails on North side.

  18. Kinda bummed they are still only open with Freedom and that one short beginner slope. Although they're saying 100% open by next weekend. Plus Jackson Frost is opening Friday.

  20. I'd also like to just say that I can't stand when people blast their music in public spaces, especially in nature. Ruins my zen almost as much as Matthew Edgerton.

  23. It was great to ride down some new terrain....helped to spread the crowds out..Upper Main was nice but Lower Main was like entering the gates of hell...really nasty... But always fun to get out and ride... Here is a short vid going down Lazy...It's not that great but i thought i would throw it up here any way..I have one going down Main Street but when I get to the lower part it becomes unwatchable from getting bounced around so much....
