My go to ski buddy is out of town so I hooked up with some skiers from a backcountry FB group. Went back to the spot I tried a few weeks ago. Much better visibility today. There was tons of powder which we were all surprised by since it has been so windy. The guy in our group was very familiar with the area and had us skin up a pretty steep section that left us all winded. I told him to show me the mellowest line as I knew I was in over my head. The girl had a slope meter on her phone and measured it at 32 degrees. Not sure how a accurate it was knee deep powder and trees, although loose, made it a heart pumping challenge for me. Our run was completely untouched, gotta day it was pretty amazing. Only way to get better at skiing is do things that scare you I guess. Goal achieved today! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk9 points

I took AIARE 1 (3 days) and companion rescue (1day) last season. I do keep it mellow and low angle. Our group had good communication and we did evaluations of the snow pack on the way up in addition to checking the avalanche report this morning. What we did today was steep for me but based on our evaluations it was relatively safe. I have no interest in being a hero on crazy stuff. It’s more about just being outside, getting a good workout in, and looking at gorgeous scenery with very few people around.5 points

North Conway is pretty mellow; I think there's a brewery there for aprés entertainment and food. Where are you flying out of that you're finding $100 flights to manchester though? Even after paying for a rental car, I don't think driving myself, if I were to go solo, would really be all too much cheaper after accounting for gas, tolls, wear on your car, etc. Also, I applaud you for trying to tackle your fears on your own terms. While flying to new england is certainly not my preferred method of traveling there, if it works to get you over your fear, then it's worth it for you to get yourself off the east coast in the future and enjoy some better skiing.3 points

Maybe TGR. Dont know if he will have time though. No fresh New England powder in PA. Shame he doesnt have pics to go with "Easily beat skiing in PA". Its like your Facebook life VS your real life. Facebook life is always way better than your real life.2 points

Gates barely worked for anyone the whole time I was there. Conditions were nice though. nightmare dream weaver was fully open today. First civilian run of the season?2 points

I'm sure it did. If you haven't already register at Alpine Zone and tell them all about it. You'll have a bigger audience there too for when you post your music videos.2 points

Maybe whoever owns the boots has really stinky feet. Don’t want them in their car.2 points

Really fun night.@AtomicSkier, Dude, Matt Edge and a few others were in the house. Conditions were good overall. NMDW was the run of the night. Mainstreet was also good. Razors and challenge were decent with some bumpy, sugary sections and some slick hardpack. One of those life is good night sessions for sure. Hopefully the rain holds off on Saturday.1 point

i will be the first one to admit im a fair weather type of skier, skiing in the rain doesnt have that much appeal to me.. I mean, unless im at Huntah. Saturday looks unlikely, but not out of the question. Sunday looks like the day.1 point

Blue really needs to get the RFID company to fix all the broken readers and the slowness of the system. The Main street double chair can't be kept full because not enough people can get through the reader, as one of them has been broken all season.1 point

You can resurface closed terrain....I wouldn't argue with Ice Eidolon...I think he knows a thing or ten more than you when it comes to snowmaking.1 point

If you want to come to NH/VT by car or plane, go for it. Your Peak Pass is good at Crotched, Mt. Snow, Attitash, and Wildcat. That would make for a good North--south driving safari. Mt. Snow probably has the best snow of all four right now. It's been a grim winter up here so far unless you like boilerplate and holiday crowds. Vermont has WAY better beer than NH, but any ski area is going to be reasonably near a brewpub. If you need nightlife beyond that you haven't skied hard enough. BUT: if you fly in and rent a car, it won't have winter tires and trust me, you want winter fucking tires up here. Don't believe anyone who tells you that AWD with "all season" tires is fine. I spend a lot of my free time treating those people after they slide across oncoming lanes and/or into ditches and trees. But I kind of agree with the fly-out-west argument, maybe with a couple of short connecting flights to break things up and some medical help to relax. You may not want chemical assistance, but also nobody wants to be on a plane with someone who's hysterical, so just have a big ol' pot gummy before you get on the plane and wean yourself off the drugs as you get more used to flying. Flying is an irrational act; there's no moral victory in "toughing it out" sober when there is help available to overcome your perfectly reasonable fear.1 point

Flat light all day did suck, but still had a good time. Challenge was better than Razors IMO. Main Street and Paradise good. A little disappointed Dreamweaver was closed. A great way to spend NYD. Felt like I was catching a cold last night, fresh air and a little parking lot wine must have killed all my cold germs 🙂1 point
