Another beautiful day on tap in Jackson Hole. Sleeper pow day on tap...5" overnight and 2-3" between 6am and the 9am opening. Me, @mute1080, and @GrilledSteezeSandwich were first in line for the gondola. It was snowing pretty hard for the on time opening. Quick rip down to Thunder through 5" on top of groomed was a great way to start. After skiing untracked down to Sublette, we skied a wind buffed Ten Sleep bowl. The boys skied Cirque, and I hiked the headwall again. There were very few tracks up on the Headwall, maybe only even patrol in front of me. It was a relatively easy hike given the cooler temperatures and the new snow except for post holing the first 50ft and the last 50 ft. Mute getting some pow Mute getting some pow under the expert chutes Turned out to be a beautiful day....that's me in the distance. Here's GSS skiing the Cirque And here is me later in the day skiing some playful terrain in Moran.12 points

January 30th, 2020 Day 2 of 7. Hey All, I’m back from another fun day at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. I woke up around 5am and looked at webcams and noticed 2-3” of snow on the railings at the base in the village. The report at 6am said 5” new and it was still snowing. After breakfast from Pearl street bagel we left for the mountain at 720am and way less people than yesterday. In line right around 8am first in line for Gondola. Fun people to talk to in line including a Canadian couple and a surfer dude who lives in a van. I think we ended up with second civiilan gondola because we didn’t hustle around the bullwheel. First amphitheater to thunder was a floating dream of sweetness. Grand was better untracked and the cirque was even better. The deepest pow 💥 was probably below the expert Chutes which we skied three times. While it wasn’t quite as deep as yesterday it was a similar medium density perder and with less people untracked last longer. Four thunder laps had my legs cooked from the choppity chop going back to the lift went over to Casper and Moran was sort of Anticlimatic as it was the first time in two days I could feel stuff under the perd..maybe if I was just a little lighter on my skis. No groomer tracks the first two ski days except for the wind blown area leading to ten sleep bowl..also a 5 foot deep drift that ate one of Mutes skis. I quit a little earlier than the boys and posted up on the deck of the general store removed my sweaty helmet and had an Arnold Palmer..then lunch at the alpenhof. Now back in town ready to relax a little before beer thirty.11 points

Tom and i are loaded up on a plane to Dallas. A 5 am flight gets you up wicked early, and thats coming from someone used to being up early. Not super excited about the small child in front of me already wailing away, or the lady next to me who feels my seating area is also for her use as well. That 16 oz coffee i just downed is ready to come out.7 points

Looks like a nice burst of snow came through the Tetons overnight with more currently slamming the Tetons. I’m thinking there’s gonna be several inches of new snow for opening...6 points

Was up first thing this morning. Just left to get in to work. Conditions were great. Guns all all over the mountain. ROTD was challenge. They blew a skiff of snow on it without grooming so it was buttery goodness. Best it’s been all year. Everything else was decent. Nice to have sun for another day. 6er still down but they were working on it and had it up to full speed a few times.5 points

No clapping upon this landing. but....last year after being held at dfw, not sure if we were even going to leave, which we did, we almost made it to jackson, then got re-routed to slc, and sat on the plane for an hour or so, when the pilot said “buckle up bitches, we are going back to jackson,” there were a lot of high fives, fist bumps and clapping.3 points

1/29/20 Out the door and into the freezer! Bluebird, windy and frigid kinda day. Got to the mountain at 9, far more crowded this morning, for a Wednesday. The sound of the train whistle echoed off the adjacent peak (I’d never get tired of hearing that!) Up the quad and down to the gondola, the wind was howling at the top and the snow was firm and windblown, but still grippy. Uo the gondola and down to the peak to peak quad to check out the South side for a while. Ran the South pod For a while, nothing spectacular, just fast, fun runs. On empty days here, these runs are pretty long and fast, with lots of rollers. It had to be cold because toes were, so headed back to lodge to warm up. Headed back out for a few more runs off the quad and had had enough. Met the wife at the car and decided to go on a hike down by the river. Poked around down by the river’s edge, checking out various wildlife tracks and the river boulders. Made our way to the Paul Bunyan for beer thirty. Sun was beating, so hung out in the deck and watched people come down the super pipe. Apres started at One Love brewery. This is a cool place in that the building was a converted lumber/paper mill that now has a few shops. One is a clothing shop where they’re seeing the clothes right there! One Love have some interesting throw-back beers that were quite tasty. Next stop was Black Mountain Burger that’s stumbling distance from The Lodge. The place has a good selection of beers and a bunch in rotation. We had a delicious TIPA and a chocolate peanut butter stout for dessert that tasted just like Tandy Takes. Opted for their vegan burger creation of the day because I was feeling adventurous and waffle sweet potato fries. It came with a Cajun mayo that was very tasty. Bluebird shots Paul Bunyan & super poor One Love brewery TIPAs at Black Mountain burger Dessert!3 points

Two headwall hikes today and I'm beat. Both were at a feverish pace to not make @mute1080 and @GrilledSteezeSandwich wait for me. Both were 18" over the head bottomless turns. The 2nd one was around 11:30am and the entire face was untracked. The first run was my 2nd best run at JH ever. I forgot my new Mac laptop doesn't have an SD card slot reader, so the Canon camera that I give Doug to shoot with has photos of my from earlier (not the Headwall) that I can't transfer off. Waiting to start.... The silliness at the start... Top of the Headwall first run. Totally untracked 18" of over the head turns ahead of me... Was too warm (and I was too warm) for the snow to really stick to my beard, but you can see the snow on my googles to prove the face shots. I'm standing still, with fat skis on...and it's up to my knees....on the second headwall run. This was 11:30am on my 2nd headwall run of the day. All easily accessible with a 10-15 minute hike. Because I'm having issues getting stuff off of my Canon, here is a preview of a shot GSS took of me off of Grand early. The boys at Mangy....2 points

January 28th, 2020 Day 1 of 7 Hey All, I’m back from another fun day at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Day one of trip #17 here. We left for the mountain at 720am and there were still a few ultra fine flakes trickling down...parked in about row 6 or 7 of the ranch lot took the parking shuttle bus motored up to the Bridger Gondola and about 12th in line. Temperatures were in the upper 20s at the base and upper teens up high and the sun came out. Was on somewhere around 8th civilian gondola which yielded some nice untracked on amphitheater down to thunder followed by left side of grabs for a few photos then up sublette where I did my favorite run today ten sleep to the cirque with mute while atomic Jeff hiked the headwall. Wow was the cirque good and deep solid foot of fresh medium density which provided some cushion for the pushing. There was float there were hoots and hollers it was untracked. Met back up with Atomic Jeff line for thunder was full corral so did marmot and a woods run and lots of untracked then line for thunder not so bad up thunder down left side of grand in chowder up sublette Atomic Jeff wanted another headwall lap and me and Mute skies a Hoback run which was mostly chowder some sticky icky lower down took union pass to base and then met up with Atomic Jeff again did teewinot to apres vous had a few fresh turns up high mostly snow changing from winter to spring. Had my fill at this point and mute did two more runs and met us at the mangy moose where we feasted in truffle fries chips salsa guac pizza pie and chicken Sammie’s...had two waitresses both 🔥 and they got a 25% tip..was a good day...top 5 for depth and visibility combination.2 points

Clapping when a plane lands is pretty weird but on the other hand a bunch of overevolved monkeys just crammed in a metal tube and went up to an altitude where the best birds can't fly and then safely came back down. Compared to the same overevolved monkeys climbing in a wooden bowl with sheets hung from the top and floating their way across the ocean 150 years ago it's pretty clap worthy.1 point

Have you put your hypothesis to the test because I've noticed it when landing in destinations outside of Orlando as well, typically when leaving Philly; so personally I think it's more of a Philly thing as opposed to a Disney thing. But you go ahead and do your thing.1 point

Hi All, Not sure if anyone noticed but I wasn't at Blue Mountain this weekend. A week or so ago Nancy, who invited herself to sausage Sunday a few weeks ago, threw out the idea of heading north since the weather wasn't looking great here in PA. Well after consulting the various weather models I agreed and the trip commenced. We met at her place near Bala Cynwyd on Friday night after work and loaded her car. Loading up is notable in this case because of the real star of this trip the Stag Rack. Brand new roof rack, I helped take it out of the box and set it up. The Stag Rack is a car roof rack that quickly and easily changes from ski, to bike really quickly. Also it sticks to the roof of your car using vacuum cups. I was sitting in the car ready to research new gear because I was convinced that there was no way this thing would work and there would be shreds of skis and snowboards all over City Ave before we even hit the highway. Needless to say the rack worked like a charm and was rock solid the whole way. Well we drove up without a real solid plan and made better time than expected so we snagged a room at the Holiday Inn in Rutland around 12:30am and crashed. Up bright and early and cruised up to Sugarbush. Got there right at 9 and booted up in the lot and walked to the lodge. Grabbed my ticket and nearly killed Nancy when she said she wanted to run to the bathroom. When we got on the snow it was a quick trip up the Gate House express Quad and then right up the North Lynx triple. Started with a trip down birch run and back up the triple. Came back down the other side of that on sunrise next and then continued down Sleeper to the bottom. Back up the quad and a run down Sleeper chutes and sleeper. Moved over to the Super Bravo quad now and lapped this chair twice doing birdland to lower jester and then lower organgrinder (or 'organizer" to Nancy). Third run from this chair we kept it moving and tried all of lower jester. Next chair to try was the valley house quad. Disliked the fact that it was a fixed grip and the strange moving walkway thing for loading but the terrain here was fun. Only used this chair for two back to back laps when some locals let me know that we should try the Heavens Gate chair for some steeps. It seemed like to this point we were stuck in pods of mostly blues. The weather was cloudy all day and the summit was socked in with fog from the second I pulled in. Heading up Heavens Gate was a trip into the storm. Visibility was next to nothing and it was a little windy up there. Any exposed spots up that high were wind blown and icy. Regardless of that it was still really fun. I couldn't see a thing at the top of Sigis Ripcord and made a hard turn where I shouldn't have and took a little spill that ended up in a 150 foot slide. Not too bad actually and lower than that the snow was pretty good. Tried jester next and it was fun but the trip back to the Heavens Gate chair was long and winding and took some effort of you were a rookie at the mountain. At this point my left foot was hurting a little but so we took organgrinder too to bottom and ran to the car for a quick lunch of mandarins, granola bars, a few beers, and string cheese. Back on the hill and a few more laps on Super Bravo chair. At this point the mountain was foggy, there was a bit of sleet and things were fairly skied off. Getting a little tired as it was the longest session of the year but we decided to pop over to Mt Ellen to see what that was all about around 2pm. Drove over since the slide Brook chair that connects the mountains was closed. Got there, parked montage style close to the chair and went right up the Green mountain express chair. Off at the top and got right on the Summit quad. This lift ride was unbearably long due to the fact it is a fixed grip chair and it was windy, sleeting and you couldn't see anything past the chair in front of you. The summit of Mt Ellen made me think of a nature documentary where they show where no animals actually live. The wind was blowing so hard that it actually stopped me at one trail intersection and if I squared up against it it would blow you back a bit. FIS looked miserable (as much as I could see through the dots of ice on my goggles) so it was down Rim Run to Elbow to The Cliffs and Straight Shot. My legs and foot were on fire at this point so that was the end of the day. Ran into the lodge at Mt Ellen for a beer and to enjoy the band before heading back to Sugarbush to listen to the band over there in the main Lodge and hang by a fire pit. Short Version Snow- not great but not terrible. Varied from nice snow to scraped boilerplate to ungroomed trails that had some dirt showing. Some of the natural snow trails didn't look skiable to me but that didn't stop scores of people from being on them. Crowds: absolutely insane. Lines were enormous all day and really didn't let up much. The singles line was definitely my friend. Terrain: since the whole Castle Rock area was closed and a lot of the diamonds and doubles were natural snow only and were really thin the place seemed to skew more towards blues if you didn't want to hit up the thin trails. I tried a few and they weren't as bad as they look bit still not great. The whole place skied like a bunch of different mountains all stitched together. Fun but kind of annoying with the lack of high speed chairs and the fact that you had to take two lifts to get to the summit anywhere. I would be curious to try it out again after a lot of snowfall but otherwise wouldn't be clamoring to get back. Also I saw a guy wearing the same boots as @enjoralas dad. Never saw another pair of those so that's cool.1 point
