  1. Ok , spur of moment trip when buddy calls with tricked out sprinter van wanting to chase storm north. Leave late Friday afternoon and white knuckle winds/ northern rides to Mt Lincoln base to park and blend in. Night temps are low single digits and 14”+ has fallen [emoji41]. We bagged Lincoln in favor of Ellen figuring crowds be less. Opening bell run was powder powder powder turns. Lined up for upper mountain lifts opening 15 min before load time. We were 6th chair (north ridge express) and hit exterminator. [emoji41][emoji41][emoji41][emoji41]face shots all the way down. V-tah!!!!! No skiing pics cause powder day and go go go. Woods skied awesom. Rolled to 3 pm and collapsed . Tonight will be even colder. So here are some dirt bag skier van pics

I arrived at the lower lot at like 7:15am..johnny Law, Atomic Jeff, Indiggio, Salty, Saltys Sister, BenM, Enjorales, Slim, Enjorales dad, enjoralas cousin, Eddie, Falco, Charles, Bethlehem Ford Guy, JFBB Dan, Rodney, Toast, Mute and Ryan were all in the house maybe more.. Started on the quad as the six pack was running but not full speed..razors was closed for the races and started on Challenge which was rough..sidewinder was alright had some Root rollers..Mainstreet was in the guns and hot and cold..new manmade was filled with snowsnakes..Switchback was good..a little wax on my skis would have helped..lazy mile also in the guns. I skied till like 931 then hungout in the lot with the PASRs..had fun enjoyed Saltys jokes and had some soft pretzel and popcorn..props to blue for blowing lots of snow!!! Ski everybody tomorrow.

  3. Dropped mrs snobunski off at Pico and headed north 40 mins to Brandon gap for some BC. Tele Sundays have been training for BC/xcd and today was the first of hopefully many BC adventures. Set out in 10d and 6 or so fresh in a set skin track, never so hot and cold at the same time. Setup worked great although tele skilz were untested in boot+ pow in semi steep trees. Taking a rest about halfway down along the skin track I asked an old tele dude skinning up with his dog if he had any tips and he replied, P turns, don’t try so hard. Adjusted the mindset and worked much better, I made some of the best turns of my life along with some of the worst scary oh shit moments over the two laps Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. Snow totals from this storm. Saw it took 6 hours yesterday to get from Denver to the tunnel. Tried to see I70 closures today and CDOT website appears to be crashed. A friend texted me at 5:15 that she was gonna try and make it to Abasin. Curious to hear about her drive later. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  14. Conditions were truly interesting today, very inconsistent. Like @Johnny Law said, you could hit every type of snow there is on one run down. Always beware skiing under the guns, as they could be blowing wet and a number of them were today. We witnessed a number of double ejections of people hitting wet piles under blowing guns, thinking they were gonna be skiing decent snow...NOT!

  17. Only in PA can you ski every type of snow in 900 vert. It was good of them to blow, I can't imagine how firm it would have been without but man was that some wet snow. It hurt exposed skin when you passed under the gun lol

  28. Yesterday I made somewhat ambitious plans for my own little "super bowl of skiing" at Greek Peak, the plan was to try out my tele skins, hit Kennedy Sf for some bcXcd, then pop over to see some GP A18/nyskiblog friends at their Super Bowl tailgate in the chair 5 lot. I set out a O’dark thirty through intermittent snow showers to get started before the lifts started running at 8:30 as required by Greek’s uphill policy. I booted up just after 7:30. The root up Alpha/Castor was smooth cord with a dusting of fresh snow with gentle flurries for stoke. About a third of the way up a patroller on a sled came by and asked how far I was going, “Sounds like a loaded question” I laughed and he said I need to be down before the lifts started and agreed I had about 15 -20 minutes to go. About 2/3 of the way up I heard his sled approaching again and gave a wristwatch/thumbs up signal, he stopped and said not to worry about it that chair #2 doesn’t run until 11 and just don't go past the lift. At the top I chatted with a hiker who had come in from the Finger Lakes Trail, he said he hadn’t been to Greek in 50 years and that it looked the same except for a little more rust, lol. My original plan was to ski Aesops Glades but it looked a little bony and being alone decided to take my same root down the fresh chord. Since the second quarter of my game was contingent on lift #2 running I did 5-6 tele runs. Nice snow, both groomed and ungroomed on Iliad, Elysian and Trojan. Ran into one of the A18 guys and rode up chair #4 with him but it was close to 11:00 by that point and needed to hit the tailgate locker room for an equipment change. A quick coffee stout and soft pretzel break at the Trunk and Tire and I was off to chair #2 with the XCD setup for a ski in Kennedy SF. The snowmobile /ski trail runs parallel to Pollux so I ducked in and bushwacked the 20 or so yards and was on my way. I ski’d the multi use trail to the Cook Rd XC ski trailhead for about a 6.9 mile loop including the harrowing ski back down Castor to the base. Even with cable bindings I can’t drive those skis, especially on warm days, those boot soles are just way to floppy. (FYI my skin track is the same root as the finish to start on the track below) It was about 2:30 when I got back to the truck. I was pretty beat but the snow was really coming down so I threw on a dry shirt, grabbed a couple of pocket beers, locked down my heals and headed over to chair #5 area to see if the A18 crew were still around. Had a fun cruise over laying down some big arcs after the morning’s work. Chair 5 lot is an unimproved lot with a tailgating scene that may even rival our row. I got there late and missed the venison spedies though... Caught one of the last chairs back over to the base so I had a burger at tracks before heading out for the snowy ride home. Legs are cooked today A great day a Greek with good snow, all the lifts running (smoothly but slowly!) and a lot of nice folks. Reminded me how much I miss the place. Hopefully this is the start of winter there and I get back up soon. Oh, and I’m more of a hockey guy than football so my Super Bowl of skiing only has 3 quarters!!
