  1. Left this morning with a sunny sky 34° and arrived to cloudy 25°. Guns blazing at the top of most runs, all of Sidewinder, and one on homestretch. Sidewinder was closed, along with Razors which had no activity on it. About two dozen people on the snow for opening. Thanks to the gates being open before 9, TP4 and I got first chair. First run on Challenge was a carpet and really good. Lapped that again and then started working our way across the mountain. Bumps were gone on Main St but they had them on Nightmare. NM/DW was bulletproof but everything else was nice to ride. Met up with@Benm around 10 for some runs and then I ledr for work at 1040. Glad to see Blue didn’t give up on winter. There was talk on the lift that they didn’t blow after Presidents’ Day last year.

  9. I skied like 10 runs of slalom tonight. I'm getting old as that shit beats me up. Conditions were awesome for running some gates. Did I see @eaf skied down Nightmare even though it was closed for racing?!

  12. You just need narrower and sharper skis ;-). It skied great today. Was 24 degrees up near us. And everything was in great shape. Still blowing snow when we left at noon.

  13. I've seen them blow snow the day before closing. But that was a number of years ago. It looks like they're watching the wallet a bit more these days. i.e. Not replacing burned out lights, not keeping lift spares on hand or not expediting non standard spares. I wouldn't doubt that they want the books to look good while Vail and Alterra are on a buying spree.

  15. Sun we hit Wildcat which had gotten 4" fresh the night before which continued to come down during the day. Lines were never more than about 5 min on a high speed quad serving 2000' vertical even on Presidents Saturday. Clearly made the right call coming hear as I heard lines were very bad at Attitash that day. This place was a marvel. Conditions were amazing with fresh snow and mt 100% open. Loved the classic winding New England trails, tree runs and challenging ungroomed steeps. Super friendly people too leading to lots of interesting lift conversations. One guy told me of the adventures he and his buddies have had getting successive new ownership to honor the Lifetime Passes they purchased in 68/69. May be my favorite place I have skied in the East though there are plenty with more horizontal.

  16. I have had this bullshit idea for awhile now, finally putting some pen to paper and making it happen. Paper template MDF template Bases cut Edges glued Core shaping Fiberglass, vds tape and top sheet Next step is glue on the sidewalls and profile the core, hopefully that happens this week. After that I’ll be building a pneumatic press, I’ll be posting progress as I go. The plan is to be on these by the end of the season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  17. Arrived not to long ago. Conditions are Western groomer / carpet like. No snow at all along the roadsides from the Poconos until about 2 miles from the elk entrance where everything's covered in white. Suns out... Guns out. Should be a fun day As you can see it's packed with people here. Lol

  23. Hey All, I’m back from a fun night session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot around 635 in the PM and it was in the upper 20s. About 20 buses and no quad running so there was an almost full corral for the six pack until almost 8. Singles line was maybe a 3-4 minute wait plus the lift stopped once or twice per ride. Atomic Jeff was doing slalom gates. First run Main Street mainly cause I was on the right side of the chair..upper left which used to be Barney’s Bumps had the best snow on the mountain as it didn’t get much traffic and got some blowover from the cannons on X-ing..lower Main Street was rolly Polly..skied a run on lazy which was pleasant enough..crossover a little slow with guns blasting on upper and lower sidewinder...lots of poachers getting after the fresh perder..I saw four get stopped by ski patrol at the bottom of lower sidewinder. After two runs mbike mike was behind me in singles line and I did some runs with him..back to Main Street and lazy and tried out nightmare dreamweaver which had slalom gates on the top...apparently Eaf was getting after it but I didn’t see him..Eaf it pretty Stealth. Also saw RodeoSteve in the liftline and talked to him for a minute. PARidgeRider was also in the House although I didn’t see him until the parking lot and one of the West Chester homeys also there. Had a few beers in the lower lot enjoyed the pleasant temperatures and peaced out by 920pm...ski everybody this weekend..gonna be a nice one.

  24. Funny, I grew up 40 minutes from Tussey, but we always went to Ski Sawmill! To me, Tussey would not operate if not for PSU.

  35. There used to be a 4WD w/ chains 1/2 school bus that made the run up there periodically. I don't know if it's still running or not. I don't recall how we found out about it, probably a brochure at the hotel we were staying.

  37. First couple runs tonight were good but as soon as the snow hit the shadows during sunset, it froze. Says it’s 37° and real feel is 30°. Razors is closed. Some high school kids tried to get 7 on the lift but got stopped before it even got to them. The liftee let them have it for making the line longer and it was already back to the gates. Ended up lapping the Main St lift a couple times since the 6 pack kept stopping. Two year old Sculpin bottles are still available at Slopeside if you want to watch a beer fountain. Grabbing a Perpetual and a bite and Mrs Mute is trying to convince me to not go back out. At least with frozen conditions I won’t have to use 4 wheel drive to get out of the mud lot.

  38. I'm planning a visit to Strawberry Park, for the view UP more than anything else. The clothing optional deal isn't a big deal to me in either direction - I'm certainly not going there because of it, but at the same time what other people wanna do is their business, doesnt bother me a bit. But I've heard the view of the sky is ridiculous if the night is clear.

  40. Hit Sunappee on the way home on Tues at 11am. Originally planned this to be a brief "break up the drive" visit like Crotched had been on Sat, but pulled in to find about 6" of fresh snow had fallen and it was continuing to come down fast and furious - all light powdery snow and wind blowing it around as well so - helped by the nonexistent crowds that let us ski right on the lift all day - it was basically cutting fresh track in light deep snow every run. The marked glades were truly awesome as well - we tried 4 of them and went back for seconds on 3 of them. There was about 8-12" of powder every direction one might point ones skis and it was nice we had taken it easier at Attitash Monday so the girls legs were in pretty good shape for this. I wanted to take a pic for y'all but when I went turn on my phone the girls complained they were too cold and wanted to keep going (it was cold and windy enough that I bought them face masks for the first time). Best day of skiing my girls have ever had on the East Coast for sure and better than some of their West Coast days. I was a bit worried about the drive home with all the snow coming down, but not so worried that we departed this paradise before the closing bell. First 90 min driving on snowy mountain roads were rough going, but fortunately Inhad bought new tires a month ago after researching which all seasons were best in snow so we were in good shape. Pulled into my driveway at 11 am and tucked my kids into bed real quick as Joy was waiting for me with candles set up all around the Jacuzzi. Hi ho hi ho it's off to work I go - glad it's a short week.

  41. Found this awesome off grid yurt in Marble for rent. When I sent the link to my friend of course she said we have to check it out immediately. Heading there early March for a few days. Don’t have to skin in, 4WD road and park right in front. Marble has some good secluded backcountry ski spots I am looking forward to checking out. I have only been to Marble in summer, but it is such a cool little area. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  42. Took a few runs with Rummy and the Hermanator. They're headed to the East side then the bar. Still hanging out over by Tunk. Carpet like in plenty of spots still. Just a great freaking day out here. Top 5 of the season according to Hermanator!
