  1. Today was a great day, much better than yesterday. Still a pretty short day for Pops and I, but thoroughly enjoyable unlike yesterday's misery. Salty gambled and won with a first tracks pass. I was worried the top of the mountain would be socked in again like yesterday since the forecast was the same, and I busted up a toe on my left foot and it was hurting bad enough I was worried how it would be in a boot today, so decided not to spend the $50. Luckily when I woke up the foot was feeling much better and didnt really give me any trouble all day. Pops and I geared up and skiied down to the gondola and got on about 840-845. Timed it well as we were off and skied down to the Sundown express right around 9am when it opened for All Tracks But First. Didn't really keep track of the groomers we hit over in the Sunshine area but we made several runs down Tomahawk and the cut offs that went down to Quickshot, dipping into the powder on the edges when we could. I decided to try out a pretty mellow treed black that drops over the back and loops back into Sunshine, Black Powder. I did it slowly and with very little style, but it was loads of fun. Except not realizing the groomed runout back in was slightly uphill and super exhausting to skate/pole up. On the ride back up Sunshine express we noticed that clouds had rolled in up top again and decided to descend to a lower part of the mountain. It was a lot more work than we would have liked running down High Noon to One O'clock to Daybreak and we decided to take a breather at the Thuderhead lodge. Werent planning on eating but the coconut curry bowl looked really good so we split one. We decided to run Heavenly Daze and Vogue back down to the bottom, and if legs and conditions were agreeable, jump back in the gondi and repeat. Unfortunately neither were, cloudy skis covered the mountain and valley and the flat light sucked. We decided to head back to the condo and rest. I was considering going back out for a few runs of the sun came out. It did, but late enough that I decided to just leave it for tomorrow. My plan tomorrow is to head up Sundown and check out the Morningside area first thing if it is open, see what's left back there. Also to shoot footage in 1080 tomorrow so I dont' have editing problems.

  3. Damn, what a phenomenal morning. The groomers are all perfect 10s. Also played in some left over Perder in the trees. Now hoping to rendezvous with the Walts at the Rendezvous Lodge.

  4. Day 2 After a great nights rest I woke to a light rain. Figured today I’d explore King Ravine. Which is in the northern presidentials off of Mt. Adams. Never have been there before or anywhere in the section of the mountain range. Started the tour in a light rain climbing through maple forest which eventually switched to pine forest. First 2.5 miles was super easy skinning with the same mellow pitch. The last 0.8 miles to base of the Great Gully was much to be desired. Not only was i now breaking trail, it got incredible steep, excessive over growth and sections of car sized rocks with holes that seemed like they dropped into oblivion. Eventually i made to the base of the great gully which is the pinnacle of king. Clouds were rolling in and out... I already knew I wasn’t going to ski the line top to bottom from what i read about it. This was a personal recon mission to grab beta on the zone. Climbed up to just shy of the first ice bulges. Looked to be 3 serious ice bulges In steepest section of the gully. While i think i could i have climbed through them without issue, but doing that then skiing it would top 3 my list of stupidest things I’ve ever done. The total line is way bigger then anything in tuxs, steeper and definitely more committing. King Ravine hasn’t seen the last of me. Thank @Justo8484 for the advice on the handgun.

  6. Makes sense. I'll probably RSVP to it. Can't go wrong with some Hors D'ouvres. Maybe i'll make the 15th a day to get a tad intoxicated in the lot and use the party to sober up.

  8. Bright blue skies today and it's going to be epic!! Going to ski the back bowls with @enjoralas and @pops and taking my GoPro Hero+ along. The only bad part about today is I'm almost out of Oreo cereal.

  14. Agreed with @AtomicSkier . But, it's cool to be cautious. He's right, tree wells aren't magnets but be sure you can control your turns depending on the tightness of the trees. I was out with a guided ski group in the side country / backcountry of Lake Louise Resort in 2016. Once we hit tree line, my speed was fast and the trees were tight. I fell then slide into a tree well. It was quite the adventure getting out.. only lost my favorite goggles, a cell phone, and my confidence to the Banff National Park. Push yourself but stay safe. If you dip into tight trees, ski near other people. Control your speed and enjoy the fluffy powder goodness.

  16. Decided to check out the Gulf of Slides today. This was my first time to this zone so this was more an exploration. GoS trail was much steeper in many spots then then the tuxs trail. It was a very sweaty skin from start to finish with no wind even above the treeline. Skied the main gully in slightly less then favorable conditions. Did not warrant multiple laps. Over all great day out in the mountains... always so humbling.

  17. Arrived at 4:30 to 49° and overcast. In the house is Mrs Mute, Marty, and Ryan. Snow is soft and smooth. No crowd at all. NMDW is the ROTN and even enjoyed the bumps on Nightmare a couple times. Clouds moved in as the sun set but never went that low on the mountain to be an issue. Currently 44° with a rf of 38°. Having a Bells Two Hearted at the LRL with a chilimac and then heading back out.

  31. Just got back from the T-Bar. It's a 10 minute walk from the condo. It's essentially a bro hive. The bartender and bro next to me thought I was under 21 despite the rad goatee just because I got a Coke instead of alcohol. At least they didn't call me McMuffin like the jabronis at Gondas in the early 2010s when I ordered a 4 pack. But they were bros because they bought everyone at the bar shotskis. I did a shot of whatever and it tasted like grandpa's cough medicine. Yuck. I'll stick to Coke products. J.A.D.I.P.

  34. it's a good thing it's getting cold. Blue def needs it, getting bare in some spots. They had that one area of the lot coned off today, front end loader transporting dirt / gravel in from the lot way back.

  40. What a couple of days. Nice work gentlemen. In case you're wondering...The usual here, fog and rain. We all of a sudden have become the Pacific NW...minus the grunge culture, coffee shops and a stratovolcano overlooking the city.

  45. Exactly. Just go around wide, but that still doesn’t help you if you lose control on a steep and slide head first toward a tree which is why riding with a buddy is always recommended. I ski glades alone often and I just go slower and less aggressive than I would if in a group.
