  1. Good day today. Lots of great turns. Mostly groomers but still got some off piste as well. Started the day on a classic Savoleyres gondola and skied there a lot of the morning. Then we shot over to the Attelas area. And worked our way over to the Tortin area for lunch. Spent some more time in the Fontanet area and then ended our day back down in town. some very interesting terrain out here. Lots of fun. Tons of cool lifts. Really cool road roller crossing. Anyway, enough about the broad lunch discussed report. You’re all here for the pictures.

  5. After a smooth flight, comfy bedding @mute1080, and an on time arrival, I really appreciate Swiss efficiency. Touchdown to passport control to baggage claim to moving on the train in 30 minutes. I’m enroute to the boys as we speak. I should be there between 1:30 and 2pm. Remember boys and girls we’re only 5 hours ahead of you right now due to DST taking effect in the US.

  6. To shorten things up, It wasn’t the day i wanted but it was the day i needed. Saw a marginal weather window with a great work window so pulled the trigger knowing it would be a gamble on conditions. Drove up yesterday taking my time making multiple stops in Massachusetts. Car camped at my now regular spot woke to howling winds, time change and how comfortable i got car camping down it was very easy to keep sleeping in a bit. Headed right up the tuckerman trail. Pack weight was 35lbs. Clueless as to what I’m going to ski. Chilled at hojos awhile talked to some others passing through. Ran into my AVY1 instructor that was teaching another course. He gave me a little beta. Couldn’t decide between hillmans or going into the ravine at first. Choose to head into the ravine... I always forget how steep it is. Once there i knew i had 2 choices. Right gully or lobster claw. Never skied lobster claw before so went up. Did not summit the line completely as i knew winds would be whipping 70-90 mph there. Top half was pretty sketchy with boiler plate conditions but second half was actually great skiing. Definitely should have just transitioned at the rock cropping half way up. Decided not to ski right gully as there were multiple groups already climbing up. Have skied everything else I decided to give Huntington Ravine a go. Only time I’ve been to Huntington before was during my AVY1 course and it certainly felt like my first time there. climbing up the south facing wall to the base of the cliff. Was slowly transitioning and enjoying the sun and one of my only breaks from the wind of the day. When the ravine erupted with that shreak of terror no one wants to hear. Quickly turning i caught the tail end of a girl tumbling hundreds of feet out of central gully at very high speed and over rocks. Came to a stop at even elevation with me but on the other side of the ravine. Quickly realizing this could be very serious, threw my skis and gave it my all to get to her. Not knowing what I’d even do when i get there. Made quick time to her and mercilessly she was unhurt and laughing it off. Regardless that freaked me out but still couldn’t call it a day yet. Skied back down to tuxs trail and then back up that to hojos. Skied the cutler river down which had way more open water then planned. Humbling as always.

  7. @JFskiDan to answer your travel time question. I left my house at 3:15pm yesterday and I arrive in Verbier in 30 minutes so that’ll put me at 17 hours. I left early for the airport as my dad had a dinner reservation. Probably could’ve been 16 if not for that? Pretty much no real other wasted time. Views on the train to Martigny weren’t bad, either.

  16. Reminds me of the ski porn, Pretty Faces. The production company, Unicorn Picnic, has a farting unicorn in the intro. Great movie if you haven’t seen it yet. It’s about a bunch of rad skier girls. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7TuVz2fnO8

  18. Rented a yurt in the town of Marble which is about 1 hr 20 min from Aspen. 4wd to access the property is no joke. Had to put the Jeep in 4low to get it up the last mile. Yurt 3 comfy futons inside View from porch Started snowing heavy that night and we woke up to this When all was said and done it was about 10” (pic was taken about 6:30am). We had to wait for the local plow guy to come through and make a pass before we headed out. Ended up doing a tour on McClure Pass. Just real mellow, didn’t want to do anything crazy with all the new snow. Depending on road conditions we may to a tour near Marble Peak tomorrow. Down another 4wd road but there is a quarry there so it is often plowed. Access road to yurt. To be continued...... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  22. Went to Buttermilk days 2 and 3. We were told about the sugar bowls out the boundary gate. We went back there day 3. Guy at info desk told us we could ski down the bowl but then had to skin back up and traverse out way we came. We went in about 1.5 miles in but with all our stops to take pictures we were running short on time and turned around before we made the bowl. Ran into some people who said you can totally walk out from bottom and it’s a 5 min walk to the lift. D’oh! I would definitely go back there, they have such an amazing uphill policy. And also to check out the other Aspen mountains. Thinking about the $150 add on the ikon base to have that option next season. Some yurt shots The yurt was awesome and it was actually really nice to unplug for a few days. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  23. I've been following Cody Townsend since he started the Fifty Project, a project to ski the fifty most iconic and classic backcountry lines in North America. There are some really great videos of earlier trips. Today's episode of Mt. Washington just dropped. Check it out.

  26. Today was sick! Met @C1erArt who told me not to ride Kunkletown Road, but I did anyway and it sucked. Anyway he knew who I was so I must be famous on here. Then did 3 Razor's Edge runs which was rad, first run was a magic carpet just like a western groomer. Parking lot festivities were grate, went for a quick Dunkin Donut run, fit my Sonic into a tight spot (could have fit 2 more Sonics in between the empty spaces), had my Roubaix handflexed and held deep philosophical discussions with Matt Edge. Then did a nice 25 mile loop on my bike and came back to a 3/4 eaten veggie tray festering in the sun. JADIP YOLO

  31. Ok, figured I’m not getting any younger so booked BC touring for Sawtooth and Pioneer range with Sun Valley Guides in Idaho. First time BC so yeah, I made every BC mistake out there but SV guides where friggin AMAZING! Anyhoo, one day as a shakedown and 4 days out of mountain yurts. Because of lack of recent snowfall made finding goods challenging but with guide oh yeah it happened (sawtooth getting 8” as I write this[emoji38]). So if I had to pick one highlight was dropping 1200’ couloir and aprons off of heyburn. Finding “cold” snow Getting ready for 4 days out back Bench yurt and don’t leave your edibles out! Steve will eat them... Heyburn summit and lunch No heliphant rescue needed! Summited yo/yo ma and dropped gunbarrel couloir Final return and view from fish hook yurt Hot tub! View from pooper! I want more....

  40. Nope, well north of the chic chocs. Polar star couloir on baffin island. Seems like a logistical nightmare to get to, let alone time correctly for favorable conditions. I'd guess it'd have to be a late spring mission when the chance of new snow is low, but i'm not the one tackling these so what do i know. https://fatmap.com/30907/Other/ski_tour/routeid/131846/Polar_Star_Couloir_

  41. Saw ticket on Liftopia for 30 bucks, so I bought it. My usual day trips have been to hunter, so i figured whats an extra 20 minutes. It was completely worth it, and If I’m riding the Catskills in the future, I’m going here. The Catskills always seemed to have winter, even when the poconos did not. There wasn’t any snow on the ride up, except for higher elevations in the Catskills. I’m always wowed by the view of the Catskills when they first come into sight on the thruway. There only a coating of snow on the ground as i got near Belleayre, but cover looked good up high. After Belleayre, its super rural and i barely saw any cars on the road. As i got closer to Plattekill, there was more and more snow on the ground. When you get to the mountain, you realize its pretty much the perfect place to have a ski area, geographically speaking. In terms of getting customers there, thats a challenge. But it’s sheltered front he wind, and holds snow super well. It looked a bit smaller than the 1000ft vert, but the ski tracks app supports the 1k, and the lack of runout is amazing. to me it felt the perfect size. Conditions were great. The main face trails were half groomed with fresh snow on the sides. There was plenty of untracked pow on the intermediate trails as I don’t think the locals give them much traffic. Blockbuster was my favorite trail of the day. The expert trails from afar may look boring and straight, but the terrain is very interesting. I could easily spend an entire day here and not get bored. The lifts don’t even feel that slow as the ride time isn’t too long since its steeper. If anyone is going to the Catskills, I recommend passing all the other hills and check this place out.
