As for the backpack? Shovel, probe, puffy, water, etc. I have a 22L pack and is perfect for days like today. I also use my pack to carry my skis up boot pack. As for today. Wow. We encountered every conditions and we were everywhere. We met up with our guide at 8:45am. We skied 9am to 3:45pm. We got our guide drunk afterwards and were still in our boots at 6:30pm. We started across the valley in Brunson which has way trees (“forests”). Plenty of deep turns. At about 12:30 we headed up into the alpine in Verbier as the sun was starting to poke out. Our first run was totally socked in so we stopped for a coffee. 15 minutes later it was completely clear so we headed up for some steeps, some pow, and some stuff to jump off of. I don’t think I’ve ever covered as much ground or had as much fun on skis compared to today. Some pictures from today. As soon as Kevin gets off his ass and gets us the GoPro pictures, there will be some awesome shots of @toast21602 and I eating total shit.12 points

Hey all, I've recently started a project to document and tour as many local lost ski areas as I can. I've always been fascinated by, and love learning about local ski history, so its been a fun past time and I like the idea of preserving something of these areas which may not be with us much longer. If anyone has any memories to share, or info feel free to drop me a message. And corrections are welcome as well! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvDb_u205GU&t=1s6 points

Hey All, I’m back from a fun afternoon session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I pulled into the lower lot at a few minutes before 2 and Bethlehem Ford Guy and his friend were just finishing up said razors was good..another guy in the lot was sad about it being the last weekday. Booted up wore a t shirt and shell and no gloves and was roasting except the top of the six pack was comfortable and the ride down. Strong south wind and not many people in the house. First lift I rode with one of the guys in the early line ups questioned why we began on challenge vs razors yesterday..answer cause we knew it would be better. Sheesh am I on judge Judy here. Another lift ride with patrollers and they felt like a few days of their skison were being stolen from them as well. I started on razors top was either big corny piles or scraped off sections almost like a slalom course..I mixed it up was rather pleasant middle section right side was the smoothest and Razorback when I began was the smoothest softest yet fast corn..last section I just straight ran to have speed for homestretch. Second run I did sidewinder and it was good in the beginning first corner was like 10” deep crud piles last section a little better the falls smooth I was expecting big moguls.. Since razors was so pleasant and a rare run to ski much I just skied that the rest of the time and did Razorback each time by the last two runs Razorback was getting choppy from me and surely a few others..I quit around 330 and Rodney’s crew was getting radical in the lot two rows over from the PASR row..I put a few beers in the freezer at work an hour before I left for skiing and kept them in a bag under a fleece in the backseat to keep them ice cold..had a citra and a perpetual and some cheese and pretzels for the better part of an hour caught up on Facebook and basked in the 70 degree sunlight. Was a fun afternoon out..only skied 8-9 runs but feel like I skied 20.5 points

To shorten things up, It wasn’t the day i wanted but it was the day i needed. Saw a marginal weather window with a great work window so pulled the trigger knowing it would be a gamble on conditions. Drove up yesterday taking my time making multiple stops in Massachusetts. Car camped at my now regular spot woke to howling winds, time change and how comfortable i got car camping down it was very easy to keep sleeping in a bit. Headed right up the tuckerman trail. Pack weight was 35lbs. Clueless as to what I’m going to ski. Chilled at hojos awhile talked to some others passing through. Ran into my AVY1 instructor that was teaching another course. He gave me a little beta. Couldn’t decide between hillmans or going into the ravine at first. Choose to head into the ravine... I always forget how steep it is. Once there i knew i had 2 choices. Right gully or lobster claw. Never skied lobster claw before so went up. Did not summit the line completely as i knew winds would be whipping 70-90 mph there. Top half was pretty sketchy with boiler plate conditions but second half was actually great skiing. Definitely should have just transitioned at the rock cropping half way up. Decided not to ski right gully as there were multiple groups already climbing up. Have skied everything else I decided to give Huntington Ravine a go. Only time I’ve been to Huntington before was during my AVY1 course and it certainly felt like my first time there. climbing up the south facing wall to the base of the cliff. Was slowly transitioning and enjoying the sun and one of my only breaks from the wind of the day. When the ravine erupted with that shreak of terror no one wants to hear. Quickly turning i caught the tail end of a girl tumbling hundreds of feet out of central gully at very high speed and over rocks. Came to a stop at even elevation with me but on the other side of the ravine. Quickly realizing this could be very serious, threw my skis and gave it my all to get to her. Not knowing what I’d even do when i get there. Made quick time to her and mercilessly she was unhurt and laughing it off. Regardless that freaked me out but still couldn’t call it a day yet. Skied back down to tuxs trail and then back up that to hojos. Skied the cutler river down which had way more open water then planned. Humbling as always.5 points

Good day today. Lots of great turns. Mostly groomers but still got some off piste as well. Started the day on a classic Savoleyres gondola and skied there a lot of the morning. Then we shot over to the Attelas area. And worked our way over to the Tortin area for lunch. Spent some more time in the Fontanet area and then ended our day back down in town. some very interesting terrain out here. Lots of fun. Tons of cool lifts. Really cool road roller crossing. Anyway, enough about the broad lunch discussed report. You’re all here for the pictures.4 points

Nice Monday day morning at Frost. About 40 when I got there at 9:30 and almost 60 when I left a little after noon. Slopes were flat, well groomed and a little soft, but never got slushy. The top crossover got real soft and it was a chore getting from East mountain over to Demattes or Exhibition. Rivershot and Floyd’s were nice and did some nice wide gs turns on Challenge and Thunderbolt. A lot of fun. Started listening to podcasts on the lift.3 points

a very obscure old hill is the honey brook ski hill in chester county. ive only been able to find 2 physical pieces to prove it existed...a sign at the old Wick's ski shop in Exton (now Buckmans) and this patch: http://www.dcski.com/lostareas/viewlostprofile.php?id=94 years ago i remember reading it was across from Tel Hai retirment home on Beaver Dam Road. i havent been able to find this link, but I found a brochure from Tel Hai where a resident is quoted as taking her childeren there (page 8): https://www.telhai.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/TelHaiLifeFall2015_Final.pdf https://www.google.com/maps/place/Tel+Hai+Retirement+Community/@40.0609224,-75.8916525,15.99z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x89c65d24cb0a1891:0x1d67a4a2d77b4fde!8m2!3d40.0624198!4d-75.8865127 (at tel hai camp maybe?)3 points

@JFskiDan to answer your travel time question. I left my house at 3:15pm yesterday and I arrive in Verbier in 30 minutes so that’ll put me at 17 hours. I left early for the airport as my dad had a dinner reservation. Probably could’ve been 16 if not for that? Pretty much no real other wasted time. Views on the train to Martigny weren’t bad, either.3 points

After a smooth flight, comfy bedding @mute1080, and an on time arrival, I really appreciate Swiss efficiency. Touchdown to passport control to baggage claim to moving on the train in 30 minutes. I’m enroute to the boys as we speak. I should be there between 1:30 and 2pm. Remember boys and girls we’re only 5 hours ahead of you right now due to DST taking effect in the US.3 points

Managed both a midway and Burma run and two lower widowmaker stock, paradise, lazy mile, switchback and Main Street. Nothing bad upper Main Street the best conditions. It's with a heavy heart that I pass along the news that Fritz passed away skiing Blue today. I received numerous texts about SP working on a person on Home Stretch and it turned out to be him on which they were working. RIP Fritz!2 points

It's not uncommon in Europe to start at one place and end your day miles away at another. You put your shoes in the backpack not in a lodge or your car. And like Toast said, a shovel, beacon, and a probe if you're going off piste as they say in Europe.2 points

Dont ask if you dont want to know. I assumed that was what you were getting at, having already alluded a touchmore discretely to being busy with nocturnal activities.2 points

I guess you could say that, a few years ago I built our dining room table from a slab of sycamore that was 40”x7’. Most planers are not big enough for a slab that size so it is common practice to use something similar to the above to flatten the slab. I borrowed from what I learned there and adapted it to make the core profile. Rough slab Flattening the slab finished table Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Late night but got them finished and bindings mounted up. They are far from perfect, but definitely skiable. I forgot to order the beveling bit for the router so I improvised with what I could find locally, it worked. I’ll hit the sidewalls again once the bit comes in. Found out it is super important to cut right along the edge with the jig saw when deflashing them. The epoxy is way to hard to just sand away with a belt sander. top sheets profile pivot mounting template Going to drop them off for a tune tomorrow and I’ll be skiing them Thursday! Woke up early as hell again this morning and managed to get one ski rough cut out of the blank. Held the two skis base to base and the rocker camber rocker profile looks great! Hand flexing also felt great! Hopefully I’ll get them finished up tonight in time to stick in a ski bag for a Wednesday evening flight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

If you’re in a 27.5 boot you’re more than welcome to a few runs on them when I’m at Blue. Popped them out of the press, took a bit of work to free them from the bottom mold but I got it. Bases look messy from all the excess epoxy but that will clean up. Put them in the smallest room in the house with a space heater again to continue setting the epoxy. I’m hoping to have them cut out and finished tomorrow night! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Yesterday I completely finished and pressure tested the press. Turns out I have about 0.06 “ of deflection at 40psi, it is plenty strong enough. I knew I would be doing the layup first thing this morning so last night I cut all of the fiberglass, carbon, vds tape and top sheet. I laid everything in reverse order with the top sheet on the bottom so it was mindless and I could not mess up the layup order. This was the smartest thing i have done because I was scatter brained thinking the epoxy was going to set faster than i did the layup. I was also very paranoid about the core shifting on the base during pressing or layup so I drilled 1/4” holes thru the core then glues 3/16” dowel today to the base so I could set the core onto the locating dowels and be sure everything was where it belonged. Everything was flamed and cleaned with rubbing alcohol and ready to go in the morning. I didn’t really sleep last night i was so excited so I was up at 530 and started the layup. Next time I need a buddy to mix epoxy and hand it to me, it took me about one hour and 15 minutes to do the whole layup and most of that time was spent mixing epoxy. Everything is in the press now and I put a space heater in the room to add some heat and help the cure. I’ll fine out tonight how it all turned out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Wednesday night I glued the sidewalls to the core and then on Thursday I profiled everything. I had a bit of a learning curve and one of the sidewalls pulled away from the core a bit but was easily fixed with more superglue. Next I attached the tip and tail spacers with some superglue and hot glue Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points
