  1. I’m working from home today and Birm’s farts are toxic after a Sunday in the parking lot. we got in a bit of trouble and don’t recommend it ... but we cruised down Burma Road at the end of the day

  2. hey all now that the season is definitely done for me with everyone closed, i just wanted to say thanks for the warm reception and some grate times. i bought a season pass for this year not even knowing if i would use it. turns out that i ended up having what were probably the best winter months ever. never thought that the parking lot of blue could provide so many memories (or outrageous food). have a great offseason, i'm already desperately looking forward to next winter.

  3. Yeah I agree...this is my first full season at Blue and I'm gonna miss hanging out with you assholes in the parking lot every weekend for sure. Before I got last year's Montage pass (and then Blue), I was only getting 5 days or so on the mountain, plus a Colorado trip most years. Now I feel like I'm more into snowboarding again, and even if the conditions sucked, the parking lot never disappointed

  4. Got home a few hours ago. Major major thanks to Barb for being so awesome. Always a pleasure skiing with you and hanging out Barb...Thanks again for everything! Was a great time. Crested Butte is next level good. I don't know that I've ever seen a place with so much steep terrain and we didn't even see all of it. The North Face stuff is essentially a mountain side full of seemingly endless extreme terrain. You can go way out there too. The stuff under the peak was just as insane. Not to mention the powder runs in paradise bowl which were pretty unforgettable. Not sure what all the closures means for my ski season yet but if the turns I made this past week were it, I'm good.

  6. Ditto...what a great trip, except of course for the obvious incident. Crested Butte is really cool. Very chill place, low crowds so it skis great all day. Still have some exploring to do there. Its a pretty easy place to get to flying into Gunnison and staying in town. Its just a quick bus ride to the mountain, and everything in town is accessible by walking. Big thanks to Barb for everything she did for us. Cant believe it was really 5 years ago since we were out. I am content ending my season on this note.

  10. Today was awesome. Wish I could've stayed longer. Food was insanely good and snow was soft and enjoyable although not too fast

  11. I had a nice day. Snow was firm early on, but didn’t get too soft until around 2 pm. Skied from 930-415. We tailgated, no where near what folks do at Blue. I really needed a last day since I worked last 3 days Blue was open. Camelback announced about 15 minutes before closing today they would not be open tomorrow. LOTS of kids there today, the park was a shit show

  14. JLAW divide 72 by the interest rate/inflation rate/growth rate and you’ll get how many years it takes for an investment or price to double. 2% is 36 years..6% is 12 years. It’s called the power of 72..

  15. How do you feel about the 1.5 to the banks ? I'm not a trump fan by any means but a national closure of sorts is one of those things that is so easy to say but vastly more complicated than anyone person or organization can even comprehend. How far down the essential workers do you go ? It's a global economy at some level everyone is essential. Gotta have power, water, trucking, mail, banking etc etc etc etc and they rely on a giant web of things that also rely on even more things. You want the cheeto in chief deciding that ? A M&A guy by most definitions is not essential nor is the local pizza shop but economics makes for strange bed fellows. Its not the case that you can cut off even one little sliver and not have ripple effects through all the other sectors so even the idea of what's essential is alot harder than just I know it when I see it. What's your enforcement mechanism ? Rolling out the national guard is extremely dangerous, armed soldiers patrolling streets is bad juju, now add into the mix people that are bored as shit and home for 10 days straight and oh boy could you take a 1 and make it into a 100. The police ? Do the math, in every country on earth that has ever existed you rely entirely upon 99.9 of people doing what their told and if you piss them off even if its for totally justifiable reasons you risk them figuring out there aren't enough people to do the enforcing. Law's and law enforcement are largely illusionary. What about the economics of the whole thing ? Does killing 10x as many people over 8 months because the economy took a shitter better than a virus doing it ? What about all the people that live paycheck to paycheck, hourly wages workers ? Going to work for them is essential to feed their families and what not. Five below being open isn't essential but for the person that works there it very well maybe. What about all the people that are in business that rely upon steady weekly income ? Chefs for example, restaurant is closed, rent is due, still gotta eat but you can't collect funemployment and that shit takes weeks to process anyways, plus is the state worker essential ? What about the random who issues the banking card or processes the payments ? You can in the process of trying to prevent deaths by corona cause x1000 deaths if you stall the economy. These are difficult questions that are unprecedented in alot of ways. The president, any president would have a fucking hard time with this question, this president just does whatever he thinks makes him popular, he's mostly ignorant and is prone to reactionary behavior so even if the argument is he should have I'm not sure how relevant it is. I get the hospital bed math and projections from Italy, from a pure conceptual point of reference I agree with what your saying but you entirely discount the most important part. How ? Its like deep water horizon, everybody bitches when they spill it, almost nobody has any idea how it works, even less people have any ideas on how to improve the process and even less people than that can see that the only fucking reason they are down there drilling and spilling is so that everyone else can do the fucking bitching in the first place. The real answer, the real actual answer is to not build a shitty ass society in the first place but that ship sailed and sank long before we were even alive.

  16. Hard to believe another ski season has come and gone. I’m not going to bring up the current obvious topic, for I just wanted to let all of you know that there are people out there that look to this site for comfort and laughs and the daily general antics are a great distraction from daily life. Big shout out to Steeze. Someday I’d like to meet up with you guys. You’re all kind of celebrities to me, as I’ve been lurking this site for probably over a decade. Anyway, thanks guys. Stay safe and keep kicking ass. Maybe next season I’ll see you on the hill. Peace

  28. Just finished up maple syruping. Season ended a little early. 44 gallons of sap gave about 80 ounces of syrup, about a 70 to 1 ratio. 65 pounds of propane later: (Used some leftover labels from 5 years ago)

  29. Damn. Glad to hear that you are okay right now. I've had plenty of concussions myself so I know how all that goes. They definitely are two great guys and of course this just confirms that. Good thing they were there with you. Props to @JFskiDan and @RidgeRacer 🙌🙌🙌

  30. It was a great week with the boys! I need to post this so everyone knows how awesome these 2 are. Yesterday was looking great with about 3” of fresh. We started on Red Lady lift and were traversing over to Paradise lift first run of the day. Started out groomed but on the first head wall after making a few turns something caught my left ski and turned me around backwards. I was totally out of control and fell downhill and landed on the back of my head. When the stars stopped spinning over my head I looked around and saw one pole 10’ above me. I managed to get up and grab that but did not see the other. Finally saw the tip of the strap peeking out from the snow. I slowly skied down and Domenic was waiting for me and Dan had gone back up to look for me. I was a total mess and he got me over to a picnic table. He asked if I needed medical attention and I wasn’t thinking straight. I said I wasn’t sure and was just going to go back to the house and end my ski day. He called over a patroller who assessed me and looked at my helmet and saw it was cracked. He called for back up and they wrapped me in the taco and put me in the sled. Diagnosis is a concussion. When the guys got me back to the house I told them I was going to rest and they should go back and ski. They insisted on packing up the house and driving me back to Boulder. They both took such good care of me. I couldn’t even walk without holding on to one of them. And they both got to see me ugly cry. Doctor said concussions make people emotional, women cry and men get very angry. Girl next to me at clinic also had a concussion and she couldn’t stop crying either. Walking unassisted today, still dizzy with headache and ribs on one side are real sore, so I guess I fell on them too. So a huge thank you and hugs to Dan and Domenic! 32. Another very nice day in the books. Some light snow then sun early on. Barb demo'd skis and she ripped in them. After lunch it started snowing pretty hard and a few inches fell on the mountain, at least up top. After lunch at Butte 66 (impossible burger pic below) Barb headed back to the condo and Dan and I hit Forest back to silver queen to Paradise Bowl where Dan found a nice stash...it's like I was skiing with a local. After another run on Paradise we hit international to the base and called it a day. Another open to almost close sesh where we definitely experienced more of the legendary Crested Butte terrain under the Peak and over on the North face. It's definitely as advertised. Suns out now but supposed to snow later. More pics below...

  33. Day 30 for me. I demoed some skis today as I have definitely outgrown my current pair. They skied well and felt like I needed less effort to ski them fast. I wanted to try another pair after lunch but they were out. Gonna try to see if I can bolt them down in the next 2 days that we have left to ski here. Did a lot of groomers today and hit some of the blacks off Silver Queen but none of the intense stuff the guys did. Was another good ski day. Only took one picture. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  34. Hey All, I’m back from a fun closing day at Blue mountain. Everybody was in the house except PARidge, JFDan, NMSki, Toast and Justo...at least 40 familiar faces about half of them PASRs. The temperature was in the upper 30s under overcast sky’s which turned to mid 50s under sunny sky’s. I was at Blue from 7am until after 4pm. Ski conditions were all over the place but generally hardpack turning to spring snow by late morning and full on spring in the afternoon. Enjorales cooked up tons of food..breakfast food, two kinds of ribs, pork loin, five kinds of sausage, brisket, Creme brûlée and even filet cooked on blocks of sea salt. In addition there was nice horn action in the lot, good music, paragliders, Eaf general fun fun fun. I took a lot of pictures here are a few and I’ll post more later.

  38. I dont for one second disagree that he was negligent nor does it forgive his behavior but he ran on that platform so then it would be my fault to expect something else plus and this is a huge plus, it speaks to the actual problem. Beyond politics, beyond party human beings have not agreed to address the lynchpin in everything. The economic system in this country is failing not the stock market which is all make believe, the most important make believe buy make belive non the less. It's not failing because of markets or Corona not even poor people. Its failing because its asking too much of humanity and its exposing and widening faults, it's the ice in the cracks of the society we have built. Humans have to have a conversation about what capitalism 2.0 is and particularly debt and banking. The economists around here listen just go look at the numbers in personal debt, corporate debt, the fact that the fed has been blowing money into the furnace in a desperate attempt to get to that magic growth number for at least a decade. Where does the math go ? Exponential growth at 3% is a doubling rate of 31 years ? Check my math but the problem in this economy is the why in the inventing new money. New markets new products new people are not entirely keeping up with need to invent new money. That's CDS magic in 2008, it was a reason to make new money with almost no natural limit because it wasn't reliant on an actual physical resource. Capitalism isn't bad but parts of this have to change or humans will inevitably implode under the pressure. This directly relates to Corona, all the shit I was talking about in the previous post, heath care, how it moved across the world and where it came from, there is a thread that ties them all together. What for the life of me is that I can't understand ever is the under pinning of the shit that really can cause chaos at a global level, shit like wall street is 90% made up. Its not physics, who else cares ? Aliens ? Other animals ? Then why not have a conversation about how we can stop rigging the system for .1% of us but for all of us. Make the system serve humans not the other way around. I am at some level a servant to the economic system, I exist to serve it not the other way around. Anyone ask yourself the same. This system is for humans by humans of humans so why the fuck does it not serve humans ? That's the problem, corona is go around 968679992 of just another symptom of the disease.

  47. Ok, figured I’m not getting any younger so booked BC touring for Sawtooth and Pioneer range with Sun Valley Guides in Idaho. First time BC so yeah, I made every BC mistake out there but SV guides where friggin AMAZING! Anyhoo, one day as a shakedown and 4 days out of mountain yurts. Because of lack of recent snowfall made finding goods challenging but with guide oh yeah it happened (sawtooth getting 8” as I write this[emoji38]). So if I had to pick one highlight was dropping 1200’ couloir and aprons off of heyburn. Finding “cold” snow Getting ready for 4 days out back Bench yurt and don’t leave your edibles out! Steve will eat them... Heyburn summit and lunch No heliphant rescue needed! Summited yo/yo ma and dropped gunbarrel couloir Final return and view from fish hook yurt Hot tub! View from pooper! I want more....

  48. Wednesday - Deer Valley Yet another bluebird day on tap. Wow it’s been dry out here lately, and so we’re off to groomer Nirvana! Departed the house a bit before 7am and arrived at Deer Valley somewhere near 7:40 and pulled into public parking lot 4. A talk w/ the attendant, we found that lot 1 is open and free, so we pulled into baller parking in the front row! The kid & I parking lot booted while the others went inside to make use of the facilities. Hope they don’t kick me out because of my rip-seen jacket and hand-sewn gloves. With all the women dressed to the Ts, I feel the need to lay low. Up the Silver Lake Express and its already starting to feel warm. Up the Sterling Express and we get the views of the groomers. Well, they do look good, but don’t look as good as the pictures. WTF? Off the lift, we head down Birdseye and quickly overtake the few people on the chairs ahead of us and put the pedal down. Now this is some spectacularly groomed snow that is totally grippy and fast, wow! We repeated the fun down Nabob. Next up was another high-speed cruiser Wizard that had some nice drops like Falls, but had dark sections forcing speed checks. Up the Wasatch Express we heard the Jerry quote of the day. A women had fallen and lost both skis and slid a few hundred feet down Wizard. One person stopped to pick up the lower ski, while another picked up the upper ski and then proceeded to ask the lower person if “he should bring it down”? We ran into the other Blue crew and skied the Triangle trees with them. We headed to the Silver Lake lodge for lunch, where I had the best white chocolate chip cookie ever, mainly because it was from Deer Valley. After lunch we headed to Empire peak to check out the bowls and chutes. To get to the chutes you had to take a wi Jed whoop-de-dood traverse through the woods that was littered with skiers who had fallen. Pretty ugly, kinda like the entrance to the Hobacks at times. The rest of the afternoon was spent noodling around the woods in Lady Morgan area, looking for untouched stashes. At the base The funicular Scenic views Bottom of Mayflower Chutes Lunchtime view Pasta & sausage dinner
