This e learning stuff is going to fuck my shit up today. With my wife being at work at the hospital all day (gross and concerning), I’ll have my kids with me at work and am supposed to guide them through these school lessons, all while performing the main finance function of a company that is hugely impacted by the current volatility in the markets. Should be a great day! Time to hop aboard the no stress express! We were talking about a babysitter, but all my wife’s family that we would usually ask are like 70 so that’s not cool, and I don’t really trust that some college student isn’t going straight from my house to hang out in a large group of people. Strange experience we are all having for sure, but at the end of this at least I’m getting extra time with my kids, and society as a whole will hopefully take away some good lessons about consumption, relationships etc.9 points

Not entirely. I try to explain this to people at work, we have a ton on UE right now, and thats where they will stay for a while. your max benefit is some crazy calculation based on what you made the past like 5 quarters. You are allowed to make a certain percentage of your maximum benefit by working part time. Usually this is equal to about 6-8 hours. So, with working lets say 6 hrs at your usual job part time, you will make your max benefit, plus your paycheck. Lets just call all of that $(job)+$$$(from UE) = $$$$. You will always be allowed to make $$$$. So if you work a second day, and bring your earnings up from your job, $$(job) + $$(UE) = $$$$. If you work even more $$$(job) UE will still give you $ to equal $$$$ Guys at work will say "if i work, it will screw up my unemployement" and thats not the case. However, i think PA unemployment needs to revamp their system, to encourage people to work part time. Staying at home, sitting on your ass watching cartoons pays to well imo. @theprogram4 be careful jumping on the UE bandwagon. Health Insurance becomes an issue, i know our guys that are laid off now, have to go on Cobra, and pay for it themselves. I believe your company can not put you on UE and still cover your benefits. I dont know how it works for doing UE and part time. This isnt a time to be with out healthcare. At this point, healthcare is probably more valuable than your job.5 points

What people don't realize is; This is not about "getting" it. It is about not spreading it. We're all going to be exposed to it at some point. It's about slowing the spread so the health care system is not overloaded to the point where they have to choose who to treat and who to let wait. Wait until it is possibly too late to help them. Bringing a two year around because you're "bored"? I think they are more stupid than bored.5 points

On top of working, we're required to keep them learning too. They took home their iPads which have e-learning courses that they need to be taking, in addition to worksheets and whatnot. Thankfully our work situation allows us to accommodate this, not to mention that our respective employers have been really understanding, knowing kids are home. I do empathize with people who have jobs that don't allow them to work at home in between "lessons" or making lunch. That has to be tough.3 points

Logarithmic growth until social distancing practices take hold. FEMA is setting up two testing centers in jersey which should be operational sometime next week. tRUMP finally sent a naval floating hospital ship to nyc. Good to see amateur hour almost over but man we are far far behind the eight ball. Merica!2 points

Working and shepherding e-learning for 2 from home here. And had to get my mom at the ER at 230 am last night (not C19 related but ER was a zoo as a result). Thank God I have such well behaved kids.2 points

Moab is basically shutting down the town since lots of people were flocking there and their hospital and resources are so small. People on FB are now asking “Where can I camp that’s warm since I can’t go to Moab?” Jesus just stay home! I admit that it took a while to sink in for me. Even on Saturday we were saying to each other “Should we be skiing?” But people who don’t grasp the gravity of the situation now, I just don’t get it.2 points

Yeah, I guess I'm lucky in that sense that I don't have to worry about really keeping up with schoolwork for my daughter. She's probably going to trash the house and we'll read some books and do some type of learning, but it's not like I have to worry about following a lesson plan or anything. I don't really have anyone to watch my daughter either, but my in-laws offered to take her for the weekend as long as everyone's feeling OK, so I'll get a break then.2 points

Doug what do you know about having kids? This is a huge problem for lots of people. And no, not everyone has a babysitter. You have no clue.2 points

This was a “pleasure” visit and had nothing to do with getting anything from the office or anything to do with work that’s why most of the people had a problem with it. Said person was already working from home and came in because they “got bored”. Chances are I’m getting one as I make less than $65k a year, but as nice as that would be, I don’t need it because I can work from home and I’m still getting 100% of my income so it’s life as usual. I would rather see it go to my single father neighbor who’s a chef (and now out of work) and has a 1 year old and likely has bills to pay and is relying on an unemployment check every week.2 points

Do you just talk to talk or are you really bad at looking into things on your own? https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/world/corona-simulator/?fbclid=IwAR0CDmrKdda3ayNl8UGz_JU4JAMZCuatfqX7JCYqicVwLOZVhwOdp6e2EBQ2 points

Because during these two weeks if less people interact with one and other and spend time in crowded setting they’ll be less likely to spread the virus more. Yes in two weeks and six weeks people will continue to be infected but the goal is to spread out the rate of infection so that hospitals do not become filled beyond capacity. If 250,000 people are infected in the next two weeks it’s wag worst than 250,000 people being infected in the next two months.2 points

In general no, but occasionally we’ll have a busy day. Last week was super dead during the week, but Saturday was very busy. Monday and Tuesday this week were super dead, but today we were getting some walk ins. We are thinking maybe people are starting to get stir crazy and just going out anyway1 point

I saw quite a few families out enjoying a hike in beautiful weather. I'm glad state parks / trails / etc are still open as going for a hike or run out in nature is safe. Going for a trail run (or run in general) is one thing I look forward to at the end of a day cooped up at home.1 point

Yes. And early days of widespread tests availability will make a lot of people freak out as it gives the impression of a worsening situation but in reality it’s just shining a light on what is actually occurring. I think my recreational store in cc is shuttered [emoji20]1 point

Not only until social distancing practices take hold, but until adequate testing capabilities are in place to see just how many people are infected.1 point

A lot of the people that are flocking to Moab do not have an actual home besides their van, they can only go where they are allowed and the places they are allowed are shutting down. Its a real problem in UT right now. Im sure it is also an issue in CO.1 point

Not everyone has relatives close by. And being a kid once is not the same as having kids.1 point

When parents have a date night or go on vacation without the kids either a babysitter or relatives watch them. I know about it cause I was once a kid and a lot of my friends have kids. I’m not Doug I’m GrilledSteeze. I don’t even know what your street name is, it’s probably like Linda.1 point

Yeah the child care situation is shitty. My daughter's day care is closed until the 31st at least. I'm going to start working from home every other day. As long as its nice out at least I can take her outside some so she doesn't go crazy.1 point

Some PASRs might get a stimulus check from Uncle Sam. Mitt Romney is proposing $1,000 per person. My friend said it’s only for those that make under I think $65,000 but no idea where they got that info. Not to sound like Bernie Sanders but a rich or comfortable person getting $1,000 won’t matter but an out of work hospitality worker would mean a lot..also money to airlines..what’s another trillion added to the national debt.1 point

Yes. Daycares are closed, unless it’s a daycare for essential personnel. The daycare where I work got special status, and only employees of hospital may bring their kids.1 point

I believe most are closed, which makes it incredibly difficult for some parents.1 point

Just finished up maple syruping. Season ended a little early. 44 gallons of sap gave about 80 ounces of syrup, about a 70 to 1 ratio. 65 pounds of propane later: (Used some leftover labels from 5 years ago)1 point
