Well, if we didn’t just have the last 6 or 7 posts on the subject, then I would say that you’re correct, but in this case, previous evidence showing the continuation and expounding of this conversation, proves that somebody does care. If you would like to alter that statement to “many people don’t care, I don’t care, or most people don’t care,” I would find that to be more accurate.3 points

I would hardly call our bantering “going at it”. Largely speaking, I try to joke around, and GSS just likes to stoke the fire with asinine off the wall comments that may or may not mirror his actual stance on a subject. If anything, it’s largely the difference in lifestyle (I took the plunge into owning a house and he freewheels in a hotel as one example) that provides the underlying basis for that banter.2 points

If there isn’t skiing, it will be a business decision at that point. Regardless of your political views, the country itself literally can’t survive without the gradual reopening of the economy, regardless of what that looks like and the pace it takes. The country can’t continue to issue debt (I mean, they can, but realistically they can’t) without having some means to pay it off without risking massive inflation by issuing more paper to pay for it. We would be coming out of this in a recession/depression that would arguably impact as many lives as the virus itself. There’s a middle ground that we have yet to find, or even tried to explore as we battle the worst of it, but at some point they will have to find it. If there is a depression, it could be even longer and more drawn out than the Great Depression because we most likely won’t have a war to kickstart the economy. As with many many things, there is no one correct answer on how to address this, but a complete shutdown like this can’t continue into 2021 without ramifications that I don’t think any of us are capable of seeing or comprehending.2 points

I haven’t done squat with my blueberry bushes this year. I’ve had some major work projects, so hopefully I’ll have some time while paperwork is being shuffled back and forth between lawyers. It looks like the first grass cutting of the season is on Monday, with mulching to follow. I’d love to mulch the blueberry bushes in the next week or two, but who knows what will pop up with this pandemic by then...2 points

Husband tried to make his own yeast this week since all stores were out. Didn’t turn out very well, very dense bread.1 point

Nah, typical bakers yeast and all purpose flour. I started a sour dough starter (which I guess you can say is “my yeast”) but that will take more time. So, just to make it abundantly clear, I’m a cliche idiot baking artisanal bread. So yeah, I got that going for me1 point

Baked baguettes, not bad not great but needs work (I’m on it). Will continue to research. Union county ratio of infected per denominator is down to one per 155. So yeah1 point

It actually went down. Yesterday Pennsylvania reported 1597 new cases. Today they are reporting 1493.1 point

Didn't they turn that into a trail for skiing? They did and it looks tamer than I thought it'd be.1 point

Fake news. If you heard that it wasn't related to me skiing. She encourages me to ski for the reasons mentioned above and, more so, because I annoy the shit out of her if I'm in the house a lot (like now). But like I said...it's a balance. Saturday and Sunday mornings at Blue are a lot when she has plans or the kids got stuff going on so I do Saturday morning and Sunday night. Multiple ski trips out west with lots of things happening at home can be tough so I do one trip...gotta balance that shit out. Edit...I think I remember that conversation now. She did say that if I got hurt again she'd kill me... Lol.1 point

That's good. I didn't mean him specifically but more so in general. I'm no marriage counselor but you hear "my wife" or "my husband" won't let me do something so frequently. I can't understand that. Granted a person shouldn't completely drop their spouse for a hobby. There's definitely a balance. But it shouldn't be completely taken away either. Taking away something that someone loves for selfish reasons will likely lead to unhappiness for that person and, I'd guess, an unhappy marriage. Again not specific to Ride who likely makes turns with his wife. But, instead, a Ridgeracer life lesson that I wanted to share.1 point

Mid summer we’ll be able to do some stuff and next skison could be herky jerky but it will happen. We might have to road trip a little with @RidgeRacer and @Papasteeze1 point

If there's another wave, and vaccine wont be available until probably spring 2021 at the earliest. I hope not but I'm a pessimist and I dont expect to do much of anything this year.1 point

I first visited the camelback alpine slide when I went to camp log and twig...that dip was spicy. A few people in my group went off the track. I liked it so much for my birthday that’s where I wanted to go.1 point

Like the Alpine Slide at Camelback. That thing was crazy. To make it safer, we’d drink mass quantities of beer in the bar there prior to getting on the slide1 point

https://aux.avclub.com/new-jersey-s-action-park-offered-fun-and-injury-for-the-1798247003 This looks like it was a good time, but no its not that either. It's in South Jersey. Very south Jersey. It's basically on the southern edge of the pine barrens and it was a functioning alpine ski area.1 point

This sounds silly, it’s not. This is not a joke or hypothetical. We as epidemiologists see it borne out in the data time and time again. Conversely, any break in that chain breaks disease transmission along that chain. In contrast to hand-washing and other personal measures, social distancing measures are not about individuals, they are about societies working in unison. These measures also require sustained action before results are evident. It is hard (even for me) to conceptualize how on a population level “one quick little get together” can undermine the entire framework of a public health intervention, but it can. I promise you it can. I promise. I promise. I promise. You can’t cheat it. People are already itching to cheat on the social distancing precautions just a “little”- a short playdate, a quick haircut, or picking up a needless item from the store. From a transmission dynamics standpoint, this very quickly recreates a highly connected social network that undermines much of the good work our communities have done thus far. This outbreak will not be overcome in one grand, sweeping gesture, but rather by the collection of individual choices we make in the coming months. This virus is unforgiving to unwise choices. As this epidemic continues, it will be easy to be drawn to the idea that what we are doing isn’t working and we may feel compelled to “cheat” with unnecessary breaches of social distancing measures. By knowing what to expect, and knowing the critical importance of maintaining these measures, my hope is to encourage continued community spirit and strategizing to persevere in this time of uncertainty.
