Sanded the railing the other day, stained it today. Luckily i used this color on my shed, so i had some leftover. Super bored at times, and this didnt keep me occupied as long as i had hoped. I stained the two most uncomfortable chairs last week as well. I am officially out of things to stain outside.8 points

Camelback has that roller coaster thing now where you sit in the cart. I think they have more than one now too. They really ought to just turn the mountain into a theme park at this point.2 points

I get the feeling these numbers are gonna end up being revised higher later. A lot of folks are getting it and not able to get tested/being told to stay home. That, and if somebody dies without testing, they're not wasting a test kit on the dead body. So we won't get the full picture until months probably. Grim stuff. But hopefully we'll be through the worst soon.1 point

PA positive cases are down for the second day in a row. Peak for PA has also been adjusted from 4-18 to 4-11 to 4-15. Keep staying at home. It's working.1 point

If any of them exist they would be in my parents' attic in a box or something but I don't really recall any photo taking when we went up there. It was one of those things that I think you take for granted. Nice day, summertime, let's go ride the alpine slide. At least as a kid I never thought of it as a photo worthy opportunity and I'm not sure my parents did either.1 point

My wife is sooo happy when ski season arrives as she doesn’t have to hear me griping about various shit that has to get done around the house and what not. When ski season hits, I’m happy and outta the house, so she’s also happy! Symbiotic relationship.1 point

Hate to tell you that they’re also recommending avoiding smoking/vaping bc it tends to irritate the alveoli which it the primary receptor location for Rona... Edibles are the way to go for now.1 point

If there isn’t skiing, it will be a business decision at that point. Regardless of your political views, the country itself literally can’t survive without the gradual reopening of the economy, regardless of what that looks like and the pace it takes. The country can’t continue to issue debt (I mean, they can, but realistically they can’t) without having some means to pay it off without risking massive inflation by issuing more paper to pay for it. We would be coming out of this in a recession/depression that would arguably impact as many lives as the virus itself. There’s a middle ground that we have yet to find, or even tried to explore as we battle the worst of it, but at some point they will have to find it. If there is a depression, it could be even longer and more drawn out than the Great Depression because we most likely won’t have a war to kickstart the economy. As with many many things, there is no one correct answer on how to address this, but a complete shutdown like this can’t continue into 2021 without ramifications that I don’t think any of us are capable of seeing or comprehending.1 point

Camelback has an alpine slide and a mountain coaster and no way they’re one of the top five ski areas in PA in skier days and gets a nice New York and jersey crowd. Nice vibe up there just wish it wasn’t so far from Allentown.0 points

This sounds silly, it’s not. This is not a joke or hypothetical. We as epidemiologists see it borne out in the data time and time again. Conversely, any break in that chain breaks disease transmission along that chain. In contrast to hand-washing and other personal measures, social distancing measures are not about individuals, they are about societies working in unison. These measures also require sustained action before results are evident. It is hard (even for me) to conceptualize how on a population level “one quick little get together” can undermine the entire framework of a public health intervention, but it can. I promise you it can. I promise. I promise. I promise. You can’t cheat it. People are already itching to cheat on the social distancing precautions just a “little”- a short playdate, a quick haircut, or picking up a needless item from the store. From a transmission dynamics standpoint, this very quickly recreates a highly connected social network that undermines much of the good work our communities have done thus far. This outbreak will not be overcome in one grand, sweeping gesture, but rather by the collection of individual choices we make in the coming months. This virus is unforgiving to unwise choices. As this epidemic continues, it will be easy to be drawn to the idea that what we are doing isn’t working and we may feel compelled to “cheat” with unnecessary breaches of social distancing measures. By knowing what to expect, and knowing the critical importance of maintaining these measures, my hope is to encourage continued community spirit and strategizing to persevere in this time of uncertainty.
