Yep. My sister came home from Florida with her boyfriend in early May for two weeks. Her boyfriend kept saying how he is glad he does not live in the liberal north any more and that it is stupid everything was closed down here. Got news for him, it is probably gonna happen now in Florida. Him and his family have no common sense and still call this a hoax. Really interesting times when his family and mine are on complete opposite sides of the political spectrum.1 point

i will agree its odd for them to buy it as a stand alone deal. At this point, like Rummy mentioned, it is a rumor. But is there enough undeveloped land to build hotel, waterpark, etc? Kalahari West? I have always heard Elk and their neighbors like to fight, i cant imagine a hotel and waterpark will go over big with the neighbors. i went to kalahari once in April a few years ago for breakfast. i would have imagined that the middle of April would be sort of a off peak time......place was jammed. That place is killing it (for now) and from what i saw, its run like a well oiled machine.1 point

So this isn’t so much of a second wave, but a first wave in states that didn’t initially lockdown?1 point
-
That is terrible. The states that are getting hit now are going to experience what the states that were first hit was like except probably worse.1 point

Lmao. The irony Edit: I thought you were exaggerating but wow that is true. Idiocracy just gets worse and worse every day.1 point

Idk, I saw a shit ton of people running out of target and foot locker not wearing masks. If it doesn’t spread outside, why have outdoor gatherings and sporting events been banned? Using that logic, you can’t get covid in a stadium full of people as long as everyone wears masks i was all for the shutdown and taking precautions, but the more time passes the more the bullshit meter goes off. I don’t understand how you cannot get Covid while pulling down a statue of Ulysses S Grant in a crowd, but can get it at a 15 person outdoor burial1 point

For those that are saying well there’s more cases because there’s more testing..well what would happen if pregnancy tests were no longer available..less babies right. People that don’t know maths bug me as well which is about 90% of the people who comment on Facebook. People divide one into 20 and get .05 on calculator and think it’s .05% no dumbass it’s 5% move the decimal over two spots to the right....i don’t envy any of you teachers out there @First Grade Teacher1 point

So wouldn’t that make people who supported protests/riots but criticize the Trump gathering as hypocrites?1 point

I'm sure it has, but contract tracers have been instructed to not ask if people have been to a protest to cover up those numbers.1 point

I find it kind of hard to believe that Kalahari bought it. It doesn't make any sense based on their current businesses. I would think another ski area operator would make more sense. But then I've been wrong plenty of times in the past.1 point

It does sound far fetched. Selling now for owners of a ski resort would be selling at the bottom of the market. For buyers, buying at the bottom sounds good at first thought but there's a huge unknown for the next one, two or three seasons as to how may skiers per day will be allowed. On the other hand, there is some untapped potential in the surrounding 'base area' (if you can even call it that) and maybe some investment entity sees potential. Adjacent to Elk's property on the north is a fairly large condominium complex which is in the unique situation of having all the property values driven way, way, way down. Did I mention a huge decrease in value? On top of the decrease in values I heard they were going to have a very large assessment per unit for something. Elk has been mostly successful in the courts over the years to make life hard for owners in that complex, and therefore has driven down property values. By a lot. That seemed to the the intended outcome all along. Local's believe it to be a case of orneriness and vindictiveness, mosty on Elk's part but also on the condo owners part. I heard some of the die hards on the condo/HOA board sold their properties in the recent past and the eagerness to engage in a fight has subsided on the condo assoc's part. And I also heard talk, this was two seasons ago and was third hand, of one of the farm fields adjacent to Elk's parking lot being sold for development. In a rural community like Susquehanna County where everyone knows everybody else's business a sale of Elk would be impossible to keep under wraps for a long time.1 point

It’s another milestone day working towards Skison 20/21. Summer Solstice. Days get shorter from here...1 point

This is exactly what was going through my mind. Not sure how much land there is, other than the ski area and parking lot. it would be a real shame to build a circus right on the ski area like camelsack did. But, at the same time, is building the circus in that area worth it? will there be a big enough draw? The ski and swim thing.....man thats a pretty long drive, but i guess some might see it as an option, but then why not just go to Camelsack? Other than the obvious, Kalahari is a machine, and Camelsack is a toy. Why not Montage? its a little closer, and one would assume that place could be had for the right offering. And for that matter, why not Camelsack? Maybe they have no interest in basically competing with themselves? Anyways, its ashame to see these smaller family type resorts being bought up by the big dogs, but at some point, with enough cash waved in your face, it might not be worth the BS that goes along with running a ski joint in this area.1 point
