As far as weather goes, as long as Blue gets 72 hours at or around 25 degrees, they'll open. The odds are, looking at historic weather, 2% or less that they don't get what they need to open for Christmas with something. A 2015 repeat would be a real kick in the teeth on top of COVID, though. I really hope that's not the case. Sent from my XP8800 using Tapatalk2 points

4361 new cases and I think it’s irrelevant which county Blue is in. We are not going back into green, yellow or red according to Dr. Richard levine but there could be restrictions on hot spots like bars and indoor dining. Also carbon is now just as hot as the Lehigh valley. Biggest concern is that it gets cold enough for snowmaking late this month or at worst early December. Would be depressing if Blue was closed Xmas week like a few seasons ago when they didn’t open permanently till like January 82 points

Covid was always gonna be bad. But it did not have to be THIS bad. (apologies in advance to JLaw because my “wall of text” is not worthy…) Testing – instead of a cohesive national plan of the federal government coordinating the distribution of test kits to be available for heavily hit areas and oversee a national testing infrastructure and develop a national surveillance system, trump basically refused to implement because he understood that more testing would lead to more confirmed cases. While we have come around on testing the most useful metric is tests available per infected person where we suck. We trail such enlightened countries such as Kazakhstan (Kazakhstan!!!!) and Ethiopia. PPE – right from the beginning the feds were slow to focus on accumulating PPE. Despite multiple administration officials calling for a massive investment in protective equipment in February and despite the federal government having the legal power to spur manufacturers to crank out masks, gowns and face shields, it didn’t happen. But hey – we got garbage bags, right? Remember when the white house implemented policies where the states were bidding against each other to obtain PPE? Brilliant!!! Free-market forces will cure all (see above gripe about coherent national policy). Leadership – This is the big Kahuna right here. What could have been a central message to establish a “we are all in this together” mentality, trump decided to turn into a Seussian star-bellied vs plain-bellied sneetch thing to play to his base. Yeah, maybe masks work (but they might get you sick, ami right?) Republican states know what they are doing – don’t listen to democratic states…Science if it makes the numbers look bad or tries to warn folks is ignored or worse – the proponents are fired from the fed (google what happened to Messonnier or Bright if you need examples). So basically the messaging is more important than science. Cross trump and you go. Trump knew this was gonna be REAL BAD back in februaru but refused to warn the nation how dire things will become (It will all go away by easter) because he knew it would blow his election chances up. So lets play a game where we adjust the death rate from covid to be proportional to the population. Europe is bad now as are other areas around the globe, but it should not be this bad. If adjusted to Europe US death toll is 84k in excess. If adjusted to Canada it is >100k in excess. If adjusted to Germany it is >150k in excess. And so on. I’ll let that sink in. Ok, to paraphrase the NEJM, trump has taken a crisis and turned it into a tragedy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

OK so you can’t go skiing during the week or two before?? I wonder how they can prove it...there was a lot of discussion on this on the alpinezone forums. Stowe was my home mountain in college...if you need any advice on places to hit let me know closer to your trip.2 points

I voted by mail because I wanted to. I absolutely was not afraid. All my closest friends who voted by mail also were not afraid. It was an OPTION that was provided. If the only option was voting in person...well that's what I would have done. But when you give options, people are allowed to decide what works best for them.2 points

Voting in person sucks! I hate going into some gross room in the church that smells like stale coffee where they have AA meetings and seeing all kinds of annoying parents of my kids' schoolmates that I have to make meaningless chit chat with. I dropped my shit in a box at the library this year and was so happy I did.2 points

I like how you don't need to start at a specific mountain anymore. Just start at one of the three.1 point

Yes it was free and the questions were just demographics, have I been traveling, have I been near anyone with Covid, have I been tested before, do I have any of a big list of symptoms, stuff like that.1 point

what kind of helmet do you have @NMSKI? goggles can fog for a number of different reasons, but having a helmet and goggles that fit well together, with vents in the helmet that can force air down into the top of the goggles definitely helps. I know oakley doesn't make them anymore, but I've never had my crowbars fog up on me aside from the lens that I cracked, or suuuuper warm/wet days. No issues with a buff tucked up under the goggles on normal days.1 point

As long as you have your macadam midlayer you’re good to go.1 point

Yup that’s my biggest anxiety going into the ski season..usually it’s if my pass will work. I’m honestly not concerned about catching Covid in the great outdoors it’s mainly to adhere to ski resort rules.1 point
-
The whole buff thing is going to be major trial and error for me. My goggles fog up like nobody's business when I wear any kind of mask so I'm hoping that my heated goggles can fight the fog, or I find a really breathable buff which defeats the purpose of wearing one in the first place.1 point

Also Colorado is stricter than us and their ski resorts are opening. They only allow 25% indoor dining.1 point

At this point if Trump gets the 2028-2032 term, we'd better pickle him like Richard Nixon's head from futurama. Sent from my XP8800 using Tapatalk1 point

Things change...early in the pandemic we were all in this together..wasn’t the presidents fault about the China virus and he initially acted responsibly with the 2 week long stay at home. June 1st was a long time ago. Just like the seasons, people views and opinions change. Anyway when trump from 2025-2029 I think hell do a better job..so well that he’ll get Congress and the Supreme Court to amend the constitution to allow him to run for a third term in 2028.....1 point

The worst part of the presidential election cycle is how much emphasis gets put on that to the detriment of the down ballot races. I really had to scour for information on the down ballot races in my district.1 point

Sort of my point. It allowed people to vote when they might not have otherwise because they feel intimidated by going to a poll being surrounded by supporters on each side and they’re not quite sure which side they belong on1 point
-
Even though someone may be a dipshit they still should have the right to vote and do so easily. At least in my opinion.1 point

I'm sure there were tons of people who had very little knowledge of the situation or process just the same as there were tons of people who had done lots of due diligence on candidates.1 point

I am all about convenience. I get angry standing in line. I am also thankful for the mail in voting, mostly for my parents. I still do most of my food shopping by curbside pick up. Its fucking awesome. i put shit i want into my cart all week long, then pick it up on my way home thursday. Im at the grocery store for no lie, 12 minutes tops. I will go the the grocery store if there is something i need in a hurry, but i may never go back to the regular shopping way ever. I had the Thanksgiving talk with my parents yesterday, i have a really small family, so 6 is max at either Thanksgiving or Christmas. I think we will at least be having Thanksgiving dinner. I really havent seen much of my family for the past 8 months.1 point

There is no debate at all. Who are you to say who should and who should not vote?1 point
-
My mom called me today and said no Xmas this year. So for the first time in years can ski on the 23rd and 24th. I don’t think people should have thanksgiving inside with people outside their immediate households. I’d feel bad if I got Covid and gave it to my parents and killed them or made them real sick. They’re both over 70...which is like a Kenny Loggins song,”In the Danger Zone”1 point

Wouldn’t that bring up a whole new philosophical debate: If someone votes based on convenience, not because it is their civic duty, should they really be voting to begin with?0 points
