  1. The friend I was supposed to come here with today twisted her ankle hiking yesterday. Left at 7 got here at 8:38. Was 16 degrees when I arrived. My first time at Keystone, found the free parking and headed up the Peru lift directly behind that lot. Real empty over there and rode the lift alone. Ended up at the bottom of River Run, looked like more of the main base area. Much busier over there. Lift lines not long but a Covid stuff nobody really knew when to go and liftees not directing. So I went back over to Peru. I didn’t track it but I think I only did 5 runs, skiing tomorrow too so I just wanted to get a handful in. It’s kinda boring skiing by yourself. Just got a breakfast sang since the banana I ate on the way here was not cutting it. After I inhale that guess I am heading out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  2. I'm feeling GREAT about it because I won't have to do shit! I'll be able to sit in my house with my immediate family which is what I've wanted to do for years but not been able to!

  6. Does it? Besides some reduced socializing, it's been OK. More working from home, more running, more flexibility, great excuse to not socialize with people you don't want to.

  11. Probably not going to happen for me. I’m in contact with a lot of people at work so I don’t want to be the spreader. Plus my wife works at a senior care home so we’re trying to limit exposure. Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think? Sorry, bad Alanis joke

  13. Take it to the credit card thread. When we went online only for April and May, our online merchant took 2% of total sales. Doesn’t sound like a lot but when profit is 20-25%, it’s noticeable. Build the online fee into profit margin or by service fee and then it’s no problem.

  20. I'll get together with my wife's parents and my parents (separately), but that's about the extent of my holiday gathering this year. I'm perfectly happy with that. Maybe Blue will care to open and I can even gather with my PASR family in the parking lot (socially distanced of course)

  22. Enjoy! When I moved to South Carolina my kids were small and I told my wife that we are not running back to PA for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Anyone who wants to see us is welcome to come down anytime. My neighbors who ran back to Michigan, Ohio, PA, Massachusetts, etc. would ask how our holidays were and I would say "Great!". They would bitch about traffic, traveling, relatives, and how frazzled their holidays were.

  28. My company uses a merchant services processor and we actually don't use a card reader in the office, but we have the option to if we ever want to hook one up. We could also set it up on our website for customers to make on-demand payments, but that brings up a whole host of cybersecurity considerations that I don't want to open the door to. Right now we just take down card info over the phone and enter it online and its hooked up to our bank account where the batches get settled to every day. Its not too expensive and really easy to set up.

  43. You should be fine! I honestly don't know how the security and encryption stuff works with square but if it were bad it wouldn't be as widely used as it is. I only avoid it because we are regulated by several state and national regulatory bodies and there are crazy cybersecurity regulations that I would have to abide by if we were to transmit personal financial information online. I'd probably have to hire someone to take care of the IT and compliance side of it. We have cyber insurance, but even with that, a data breach would be bad news and a pain with over 10,000 customer records (which probably isn't a lot, but seems like a lot to me).

  44. That isn’t gonna help me when I don’t physically meet with customers. My mom has the credit card reader that hooks up to her iPhone because she does some art shows. Most mail in checks anyway which eliminates the merchant processing fee. We don’t accept Amex. I had had one customer who tried to pay her balance I believe around $900 over the phone on her debit card. It didn’t work and so she said she’d transfer money to credit union and use that card. She called yesterday to pay with that card and declined again. Of course she has a $500 daily limit which happens sometimes so called bank and then an hour later it worked. Pretty standard except customer was all mush mouth and there was organ music playing in the background but she called me sweetie for being patient.

  46. They are getting away from a lot of things, but it takes time. At this point we still make a decent number of old school mag stripe only cards as well as some super advanced hybrid cards. The variation in cards is astonishing and the wild part is that at the end of the day almost all of them do the exact same thing. It's all about vanity. The big banks and credit card companies either try to order a literal million cards at once and get a cheap rate on a basic one or they go nuts on the crazy structure and design and everything else. I mean when is the last time anyone actually looked at the edge of a card they have and cared what it looked like? That is a hot point of contention for some customers if we don't have the correct plastic in stock for the core so they either need to wait or deal with a different edge color. If they really push we upcharge them and have a whole set up that will print a color on the edge of a finished card, which might be the most precise machine I've ever seen.

  48. I actually don’t even mind the warehouses that are popping up less than a mile from my house on former farmland, although I dislike the shady dealings that put them there instead of the farmland that it used to be. But I think that 22 should have been widened to 3 lanes in each direction between the 78 access points before they started the warehouse boom along the root between those points.
