  1. Felt great to ski a whole run like Lazy Mile. Definitely turned into crazy mile on a few runs. Being at the valley just a week after opening is pretty great. Just another reason why Blue is the best in PA.

  2. Hey All, I’m back from another session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 820AM and it was in the mid 20s under overcast sky’s and people were spilling in like it was a holiday weekend. In the house were Atomic Jeff, BenM, Antman, BethlehemFord Guy, PSUFly, Rodney,Toast and MBike mike. It was just the quad open initially and about a ten minute delayed start which led to a pretty long backup but managed first civilian six pack. The guns were blasting on Razors, Paradise, lower park, tubing and a few other areas. First run Main Street tip to bottom..upper was alright a little funky with some ridges and lower was better..smooth enough. The shuttle was a little slow with fresh manmade. Next run was lazy mile which had some pretty nice conditions and the falls was open half width and funky herky jerky snow especially where it flattens..just have to point em and hold on..if there was a place to catch an edge this was it. By third time in lifeline there was quite the backup just to get through the scanners maybe a 5 minute wait although the lift stopped quite a bit. I skied lazy to falls again..followed by the whole mile to the lot..skied four runs in the time I should have done 6-7. I wasnt planning on hanging around but ended up enjoying very pleasant temperatures along with some sunshine in the lower lot and PSUGuy gave me a beer..was a juicy one and very good. Hungout till 1115 and now at work..the six pack got going maybe at 1030am. All in all was a fun short session a nice preview for the weekend. Dress like a cosmonaut tomorrow..could be in the single numbers at opening bell..JADIP

  4. Good getting on on the snow and seeing some of you guys...did a few runs on main street to start off since there was no lift line there. Then a few runs on lazy. I should be back on Sunday

  7. Nice quick session this morning. The sun started to come out and the snow was softening up my last couple runs. It was tough to leave but unfortunately I had too. Lifts lines weren’t bad as a single and season pass holder. Didn’t wait more than 5 minutes minus the very first ride when the lift was on hold. I’ll be anchored tomorrow by my brother who’s getting on a board for the first time in 20 years and his friend for the first time in 5 years...Yay. see you guys tomorrow for a cooold one.

  8. A lot of criticism from those at home! Lazy was great today. Felt good to ski the full vert of Blue.

  10. The sixer not running on the day they open the valley is the least surprising thing to happen in 2020

  11. 12/18/20. Opening day. 23° Overcast, No Wind On mountain around noon after clearing driveway, shoveling decks and gearing up. No liftlines, ski right on most every time. Only a few not wearing masks. Looked in lodge and only a few people inside Standard opening day trails open. Beginners, east, west, susquehanna, tioga. In addition lackawanna spur, hiawatha, and Seneca...the natural trail under the C lift. Surface soft and cut up. Susquehanna was moguled up inconsistently. Seneca was down to grass and dirt in most places. Poachers were boot deep in natural on Slalom. Snowmaking on Delaware and Tunk.. Now... "All the rest are Free" Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  14. Tonight was great! Quite busy on the slopes, but zero wait in line if you're using expresses. Interestingly at times there was a considerable line to get to Burma chairs, IDK what and why people would wait there instead of just skipping down to the Valley. Cookie field migrated up to the middle of Main Street, right on top of the moguls that formed where the two trails merge. So if you go down Main Street top-to-bottom, the conditions would look something like awesome-awesome-meh-shit!-crap!!-meh-OK. Lazy mile has nice rollers along the left side, and again conditions change from great to a mix of scraped spots and piles. Paradise should open soon. Given the conditions and crowds, we've ended up looping a rather unusual route: Quad-Connector-Vista-Burma-Home Stretch, which nicely incorporated elements of skiing, dodging and pushing. In short, great night!

  16. Okemo was a shit-show today. I arrived a little late and had to park insanely far away. Texted my friends who said the main chair and one other quad were down, no new trails were open, and they were doing more standing than skiing. I turned around and headed home, figuring to get a few skinning laps on Mt. Ascutney. Turns out backcountry skiing is a bear right now because the snow is like chest-deep and even though it's fluffy, it's hard to make any progress even on the steeper pitches. A four-foot powder dump that makes skiing nearly impossible is pretty on-brand for 2020, I'd say! Headed out to earn some turns tomorrow now that today's skiers have chopped it up.

  18. Put the Covid and limited tickets thing aside, if it were a regular year, yesterday would’ve been WAY worse. It has the be expected that a ski area is going to be busy after a big storm. People don’t get that.

  20. This is true, but when its snowing, and you risk being late for first chair, and your dog is looking at you with the "go get the shovel, asshole" look on his face, the charm wears off.......

  21. OMG. Booting up with snow on the lot. This will be a problem for many i can only imagine.

  22. exactly. nobody cared about that place 15-20 years ago. then they started holding some smaller rail jams and slopestyle series and started to build some hype. that turned into drawing some unknowns from pretty far away who turned into kinda big deals in the ski industry. i remember skiing with and competing against tom wallisch, steve stepp, sean jordan, brogan, jackie, the dadalis, people who are x games athletes, olympians, people legitimately making a good professional living skiing. and they all still repped boulder whenever asked about growing up skiing in the mid atlantic. not sure what vail's plan is here, but it's definitely a bummer to see boulder lose so much of what put them on the map, even if i'm not so much of a park rat anymore.

  24. I wonder if pass holders who buy their passes specifically to ride Boulder Park knew this was happening before they dropped dough on their pass? If they didn't that's dirty imo.

  25. I don’t understand why people are flipping out about yesterday...I was there and had a fun time. Were lift lines ideal? No, but who gives a shit when you are on the mountain on the rare occasion you can look and see snow everywhere

  27. I think one of the things that help both Jack Frost and Big Boulder is the proximity to lots of vacation housing. I might be off on this since I don't go there very often, but in addition to Split Rock I thought a lot of the places around there were vacation houses people would spend their winters at which help to bring people in to those hills.

  29. Boggles the mind. They knew the valley was going to be open and they couldn't get their act together to have the corrals set up and the 6-pack running? Wonder if they're light on help?

  31. Pic from top of Paradise taken yesterday. Today was overcast and really cold. We didn’t stay out long, in the single digits. Overall good snow and coverage just wish they had a bit more open. I know it’s just that kind of slow start to the season. Mid December is such a great time to be here before the crowds roll in. Never had to wait for a bus because it was too crowded. They only allow 15 on per bus. Here are my beauties all mounted. I freaking love them! Probably do a snowshoe tomorrow before we head out to tire out my dog for the drive home. I always hate to leave this place. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  33. Both mountains are anachronisms in today's industry. BB should have closed down 20 years ago but found a niche with the park scene. They invested well and got lucky in that they managed to capture the park crowd. Like somebody else mentioned above, park peaked 15 years ago, so they're fighting to hold onto a small share of riders and skiers there. JF is a nice place but its still too small to be competitive as a standalone mountain. The lifts are slow, the terrain offerings are limited. Unless you get a dump of snow nobody cares that you have glades. They do draw a crowd from the surrounding vacation communities though, and they have managed to keep the mountains afloat that way without going the resort option and building hotels and water parks, which I appreciate.

  34. Look at it this way. After the snow settles a bit, you’ve now got 3’ of base to work with for the next storm. Everything is covered, so a 6-8” day is gonna ski awesome and not be miserable on the up. Get after it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
