  1. Skied Abasin this morning with my brother. Arrived at 8:30. The lifts were spinning and we were 4th row in the lot at the base. ABasin may have changed affiliations a few times but I appreciate that you can park at the base and the cell & WiFi reception is the same as it was 20 years ago (aka, non existent) i love skiing on Christmas. Lines are short and the people are all decent skiers. This was the line at Black Mountain Express at 11am. I’ve seen recirculated pics of long lines with no distancing in place... but I just want to show it’s not everywhere. We have a tradition of skiing on Christmas Day. Previous years it’s been Solitude, Keystone, Wolf Creek, Durango, and others. Obligatory Christmas photo for mom. We skied for about 2 hours because we have a Christmas dinner to prep. It was an absolute gorgeous bluebird groomer day. As the sun started to hit the snow, it warmed up and was even better. We winded the day with the Christmas brunch of pb&j and Colorado brews. On the drive down Loveland Pass, there was a small group with a grill cooking Christmas brunch and a tiny Christmas tree. I’m not sure what next year will bring but I’m hoping to keep with Christmas tradition. merry christmas, all!

  2. I skied Copper yesterday. No lines and plenty of space. But, it was like 9 degrees and windy. Did about 8k of vert in under 2 hours. It was my first day out so I took it slow. I didn’t take any photos on the mountain but this pic on 70 can give you an idea. Today, I skiied Winter Park. It was a blue bird day. Got about 12k in about 3 hours. To start, I parked in the free lot G (that’s me in the black SUV). Then, I strolled over to the Cabriolet lift (beer can lift) to hit the village. It was great to not have to take a shuttle bus. A couple of the lifts like Sunnyside, Challenger, Super Gauge Express, and the Gondola had 10 minute waits, everything else I pretty much skied right up to. If there was a line, I just opted for the slower 2 seater lift versus the express. It was easy to avoid the lines. Above is line of Super Guage Express, but just to the right is Pony Express and it had zero wait. It doesn’t take you as far up but got my skis back on the snow faster. The runs were mostly empty and easy to avoid, which felt like a sharp contrast to the Schuylkill River Trail in Philly. Ducked into some of the trees. Not much powder but it was good to practice the variability. the sun started to set and the shade rolled in around 3pm. Made it chillier but still fun to cruise down the runs as it begun to empty out. tomorrow is an ABasin morning ski..

  4. Nice report Skiinancy...I’ve had some grate bluebird and pow days at Abasin. As much as I like lingering around enjoying a nice continental breakfast, I get to the basin early to get in the early riser lot..4th row is baller status..can ski right back to your car..thanks for posting these timely reports!! I see the new Pali lift is open...that’s where this April Perder is from.

  5. At least we have a decently nice hotel room in Waterbury VT to spend the day in while not skiing at Stowe. Yesterday was fun though. On to Okemo tomorrow. As icy as it should be at least they are great at grooming. If we only have a wash out one of our 6 days in VT that isn't so bad.

  13. On the road (lots of debris after the storm), and no, I just let Apple watch do the measurements. Had a bike stolen this spring, with it went a bike computer too. While I was looking for a replacement, gave my watch a try and since then just use it exclusively.

  14. LOL, I actually biked today. Was cleaning driveway of spilled generator oil and figured it was too warm not to bike.

  21. Hey All, I’m back from another fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at around 820am and it was 40 degrees under ominous overcast sky’s. In the house were MBike Mike, JFdan, Atomic Jeff, BenM, Nazareth Jay, Shadows, Henry, Enjoralas cousin, TP4, Antman, Keith, Crazy Kathy and many more. First civilian 6 pack and barely any people in the house Challenge was pretty nice a little chop..Main Street top was smooth fast cord hero snow and bottom a little chop..lazy mile was ok very soft..paradise was my favorite and only a few people on it..The rain didn’t start until a little before 10am and it wasn’t that bad while I was skiing. Managed 9 runs in a little under an hour and a half then hungour in the lot for about 45 minutes drinking beer in the rain I’m glad the rain held off and I got some runs in on this Xmas eve Usually I’d be at my parents house today but because of Covid I’m not allowed in their house so saved me 7 hours of round trip driving and my mom nagging me about everything JADIP

  22. And we have waffles at the top. I sometimes loudly say as I’m about to disembark from the Tram,”Which way is it to the Mangy Moose”...or,”Which way is it to Outer Limits”

  23. No rain is good rain in the winter but at least it’s happening overnight into a day where most mountains are already closed to begin with, should hopefully cut down a little bit on loss of snow.

  28. Who doesn't love hero spring snow on Xmas eve? Great morning out there. Oh, and here is a pic of @mbike-ski that is well composed, level, and clear because my lens isn't covered in grease.

  32. No, but I'm super disappointed still. I actually almost thought that all that rain would be snow in Catskills! And wow, you're right! Another rain on the New Year's eve. 😬
