  1. 1/6/21. Excellent conditions. Groomed soft packed powder. Overcast so visibility was not the best. Snizzle and no wind. 7 trails open from the top. Chippewa and Seneca ungroomed. Bar is open and caught with a lot of the regulars. Lodge and Bar have occupancy limits. CDC rules, and masks are required everywhere and enforced. 6 person limit in mens bathroom....??.... If purchasing tickets on line you can pick them up in lower parking lot and start your day riding the quad to the top, and skip the Elkwagon ride. Now back at TLCITW in front of the fire, building up the coals for steaks later... Life is Good!! [emoji2] Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  2. So last pair I kind of skipped this step because I was very nervous about doing it, I was also nervous about doing it this time but figured I needed to figure it out eventually. In the tip and tail the sidewall ends up being about 1.5mm thick and it could easily rip off or break adding this rabbet. I built this router table with custom back stop to add a rabbet to the core to keep the bases of the skis flatter when they are pressed. If you scroll up a few posts you can see how the teeth of the edge are on top of the base, thats how they are attached and what keeps them in place. Adding the rabbit takes some of the pressure off the edges and keeps you from pressing edge high. Its kind of hard to explain maybe I will add a picture later. router table Router bit with back stop, so the sidewall is run down the backstop and the bit takes about .5mm of material off the bottom of the sidewall and a small portion of the base. a picture of the rabbet for reference. The core and sidewall get pretty thin in the tip and tail. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. I know it gets tracked out quick but what was probably the best ski day of my life was a rider of the storm day at the bird.

  4. So life got a little busy, then it snowed and I wanted to ski tour so I took a bit of a break on working on these. They are now out of the press and deflashed. Im pretty sure I am going to have some issues on this pair but time will tell as I ski them I guess. Its a really fun and interesting learning experience for me. Shaped core, tip and tail fill with sidewalls before attaching anything. Attaching the sidewalls to the core, just some simple super glue and clamps. This shows the bottom of the core after the sidewalls have been attached, I used a new method to attach the core blank to the profiling jig and it worked out really well. Tape the bottom of the core, and also tape the jig and use super glue to glue the tape together, it easily comes apart which is critical when the core gets thin. Core blank glued on the profile jig. Core after it is profiled, on this pair the core is 8mm thick under foot and tapers to 2mm in the tip and the tail. The tip and tail fill that I buy is also 2mm thick so it all lays up very nicely. 5. This morning was my first day back to work in 2 weeks 😑 midday, I went to the dog park to get Wally tired and someone recognized me from Petco on Sunday. It was just a reminder that as much as it’s a city - it still feels like a small town here. I worked during the day, shut down my laptop, and drove the 30 minutes up to Brighton for some night skiing. I was able to pull into the first row and boot up in my front seat. But, first, I needed to do a bathroom selfie. I was quite disappointed that no one else was singing Africa by Toto. I would have totally done the drum part. it got dark quickly but never really that cold. This picture reminds me of a galaxy far, far away. with the snow falling and the shadows (not the PASR shadow though), it was a pretty night. There were times where I was the only one on a run, there weren’t any lights, and I questioned if the run was even open. It’s fun exploring. This is at the top of the main lift (crest express), which reminded me that I should order some white strips. But, no one is likely reading this anyway. As I was driving back to SLC around 7:30, fireworks we’re going off all over. Like real fireworks. Not the kind you hear from west philly during pandemics, looting, and rioting. Turns out January 4 is Utah’s 125th statehood anniversary. Since @Justo8484taught us (err maybe just me) about soaking, here’s a new Utah fact in case anyone has big dreams of making it on Jeopardy. Did you know that Utah applied for statehood 7 times over 48 years??. https://thrive125.utah.gov/becoming-utah/ Tomorrow, hoping to stretch the legs and do a couple laps uphill at Park City or in the foothills. Hopefully they’ll be better pics.

  6. Hey All, I’m back from another fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I was up super early and responded to some emails before I even got out of bed. I arrived at the lower lot around 830am and in the house were Atomic Jeff, Shadows, BenM and Bethlehem Ford Guy. The temperature was in the mid 30s and a small fog layer really began to encompass the mountain. Razors hadn’t been groomed so I avoided that. Challenge was nice smooth cord...a little softer on the first headwall. Main Street was nice cord top to bottom again softer on top. Switchback was similar conditions to Main Street..lazy mile wasn’t quite as smooth but still very nice snow and a little more traffic and nightmare dreamweaver was more hardpack with some skeet spots starting to appear. The six pack was having some issues..it stopped a few times and one of Blue’s technicians climbed the stairs at the bottom of the six and you could hear a lot of clanging and banging. All and all a fun short session. I sort of wanted some beer but there will be plenty of other days for that. JADIP

  8. So, I had some plans do uphill at Park City but I’m not good with plans. I am GREAT at loosing things. in 2020, I left behind (err lost) my Garmin forerunner 235, AirPods, and Nintendo Switch. RIP electronics. In like 2015, I dropped my car key in the sewer and fortunately my brother went in to get it. Just in case, I brought my spare key on this trip. it’s 2021 and I guess I haven’t changed much. turns out, I also left one of my skis in the Brighton parking lot. So, I made the trek back to Brighton to retrieve it, which affected my original ski plan 🙈 Instead ... i dusted off my atomic skis and did some ski touring in the Wasatch on Mill D to Dog Lake. I parked in the Spruces lot and crossed the road. I found the spot through a Facebook group and downloaded the Wasatch Backcountry Skiing map that was highly recommended by my BC friends. i haven’t toured since at least 2018-19 and I haven’t really worked out since Christmas. It was exhausting. I blame it on the altitude. Pretty cool that they have a spot to check your beacon though. I really used the opportunity to take a photo (aka, catch my breath). I thought. Oh wait. I should snap a photo of my skis as I sang Kelly Clarkson, “Catching my breath, letting it go / Turning my cheek for the sake of this snow...” I think approx 1/4 mile in, you bear left. You’re basically ski touring on a road near houses. eventually the houses stop and there’s a gate. You go left and the skin track narrows a bit. I passed a few people. There’s a guy on the distance in the photo below. This is looking down to the beginning part of the trail. the sun started to set and I needed to pick up Wally from dog daycare by 7. No idea of the distance because the “Nordic skiing” function on my Apple Watch doesn’t track distance or elevation. (Miss ya garmin forerunner! I hope you’re in a better place) After of like 45 minutes of touring, I stripped the skins and turned around. It was great to get out and switch up my after work routine. Then, I headed back into SLC to get Wally and my GPS somehow (....) directed me to the Liquor Store instead. I was like damnnn beer is cheap. $2.15. Turns out, it’s $2.15 PER beer.. they definitely have beer laws despite no law claws. Then I saw these ones and I just couldn’t 😂 Made it this far? Hope you’re not asleep like Wally..

  11. I use Slopes. Was doing about 24 when you guys passed me as I was trying to do pretty turns down the right edge. All I saw were your bright orange bindings through the fog. You guys I trust, BMR I don’t. Top speed of 34 today. Even at those speeds I was skiing by feel most of the time. Fortunately slopes were in good shape at opening. Put in some upgraded headphones in the helmet end of last year, unfortunately the iPhone doesn’t drive them loud enough, although they have really good bass. Yesterday I got the Kaiser music player app, with adjustable gain. Definitely loud enough now.

  20. That was the first time I looked at speed all season. Can’t ski fast at Blue. Concentrating on trying to make pretty turns. Glad I got shorter skis this time.
