  1. EPIC day at Hunter w/ @GSSucks and @Justo8484. @GSSucks caught up with me somewhere on 87 and arrived at Hunter ~6:50am. Geared up started our skin right as the sun was coming up. This was my first real skin adventure, as my Jacobsburg State Park adventure with @toast21602, @mbike-ski, and @Mixilplix was more to test the gear, and practice changing the skis from uphill to downhill, etc. It was low 20s when we started with a nice breeze which helped regulate body temps. The alpenglow was spot on as we headed up hill. It's a ~1.75 mile tour with 1600ft-ish of gain (I think) and it took us about 50ish minutes with a few stops to adjust venting, take pics, etc. Pretty efficient method to travel uphill. Gear test was pretty successful I thought. We were back down at the car a little after 8 to meet up with @Justo8484, change into dryer clothing, and head back out for a day shredding the gnar. First few runs were 10/10 awesome groomers but lines started to form and stuff got more scraped off. Skied until about 1:30pm with a beer stop somewhere in the middle. Well worth the drive to ski some nice conditions, fast runs, and get a little uphill practice in. TFTI @GSSucks.

  2. Hey All, I’m back from another fun day at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot before 720am and it was in the upper 20s with a mostly sunny day on tap. Winds calmed down from yesterday which made things extra pleasant. In the house were NMSki, Ryan, mute, BooBear, NMskiFamily, Enjorales, Pops, enjorales cousin, enjorales family, Mixilplix, Zack, TP4, Salty, Matt Edge, Indiggio, BenM, JFDan, bethlehem ford guy, PSUFlyGuy and many more. First civilian six pack was easy peazy to get and a minute or two early which had us almost at the top at 803AM..I skied challenge first which was a carpet then razors right before race team took it over which was a carpet that a few people had done the pocono shuffle on so still super nice. Back to challenge again still very good and then sidewinder which for day two was exceptionally good.a little stiffer than other runs but still a little cushion for the pushing and mini root rollers on the last pitch Main Street was nice along the bump line still cord..lower was like yesterday mini cookies not terrible on the far west side. Lazy mile was good under the middle then it was a bakery nom nom nom gimme all the cookies. The falls had a lot of people picnicing at the top and Switchback was classic east coast fast and shady. Liftline went from a minute or two to several minutes in the first hour or so and I only managed two runs from 910-945 as lines got pretty long on the quad and six pack Sausage Sunday was off the chain. There was bacon, eggs, pancakes, multiple kinds of pork, beef and wings..also bloody Mary’s and mimosas and a beer tasting. The weather was so so nice was abundant sunshine and temperatures rising into the 40s...all in all anyway you slice it or dice it, it was just another day in Paradise!!!

  5. Stellar day, fun tour with Jeff to start it off. An early uphill lap always makes me feel like I did something besides drink beers with the boys. The early laps were great, lift lines got a little rowdy but that’s part of skiing Vail East. Let’s do that again before the end of the season, maybe with a few additional friends! Got to test out the new skis as well, not spot on but much more fun than the last pair. More on that to come. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. Getting my second shot Tuesday morning, then going directly to Blue. 1st one didn’t hurt at all getting the shot. My arm was a little sore the next day, but no big deal. I’m hoping I don’t feel crappy Wednesday, since I’m planning on skiing again. A little Motrin and wine and I’ll be fine 👍👍

  10. Hunter liftees were rigorously enforcing masks today. If your nose was showing, you got called out.

  14. I’d have to assume this took place inside a lodge or something? I mean for fucks sake, 90% of the time people ski, their face and mouth is covered by some type of covering. Why is it now that big of an issue for people to wear one?

  15. Long lines for slow lifts feeding short runs on tame terrain. At least they still blow snow in the trees. It is a lot closer than Hunter, but will not do it again this season without East open.

  18. Yeah they need better enforcement.

  19. Appears there was an incident at solitude. From what I'm reading a customer wasn't happy about having to wear a mask.

  21. Here’s my snowbird recap in photos. It’s quite a humbling mountain. Trammy tram was not as crowded as usual View from the tram looking towards SLC whaaat. The views are incredible. the quinsential photos for our moms to prove that we’re still alive. It’s not @enjoralas’s sausage Sunday, but we picked up some meats and snacks at Smiths. the beer is Czech your head and Lei Effect by Proper Brewing. here’s a cool pic of @Schifboarding. Cloud cover was heavy at times. And once, just off a green trail, a snow snake got me. It was funny and my legs were so tired. Snowbird is humbling. im all about skiing as much mountain as possible but please - no more election hoopla. I will not ski the election trail. And PS: bananas was bananas.

  22. Day 2. Snowbird. The Bird is the word. 9am-3:45pm 21.276 vertical feet // 15 lifts Woke up early and got ready to head to Snowbird, UT for the day. Made some eggs and tried to stay hydrated. Threw a few things in the car, dropped off the dog, and started the drive into Little Cottonwood Canyon. About 35 minutes later at 8:15am, we got a nice parking spot near Snowbird Center and booted up. Walked up to the ticket window which is located in the Tram building and had to wait a few minutes for it to open. Just as a heads up --The sign read "Friends & Family: $98" but that rate is only valid for Snowbird passholders, not Ikon. Ikon passholders get 25% off the combo Snowbird/Alta ticket. Snowbird only gives the 25% off the Snowbird/Alta combo ticket, which is significantly more expensive than just the Snowbird alone one. It still works out to be a little bit less than window price but not the kind of discount that you would expect. Ticket was acquired and we went to the line for the tram. They are pretty serious about masking up all over the resort and Buffs or bandannas don't cut it. There was a girl walking around the line handing out masks, if you didn't have one, and everyone was pretty good about keeping their distance. They are only letting 25 people in each tram so they actually had a number of barrels filled with water for ballast. We got first tram of the day and dropped down the back side right away into Mineral Basin. Not having any idea where we were -- we stuck to the Lupine Loop and then down to Bassanova, occasionally popping off of the cat track but coming back onto it fairly quickly. Back up Mineral Basin Express and down Path to Paradise where we both dropped into the bowl at different spots but wound up at the bottom of Mineral Basin Express. Went up Mineral Basin Express and @skiincy had to jump on a call, so she went into the Summit at Snowbird and I took another run. This is the point where Snowbird really started to hit me. The size of this place was stunning from the first Tram ride but at this point I realized that Snowbird, like the Honey Badger, don't care. Outside of the marked "easier way down", which has pitches towards the lift that are as steep as Razor's Edge, there is absolutely no signage and it's a complete free for all. As I'm writing this, I had to reference the trail names on Nancy's Ikon ski tracker - otherwise, we would have no idea of some of these names. On this solo run I hopped off the cat track pretty early and dove down through some fun steeps and wound up in a pretty gnarly and narrow chute that came out of nowhere. I got down to the bottom of the Mineral Basin lift and was really sucking wind. Thankfully I didn't get altitude sickness but I had no idea how high Snowbird really was (11,000 feet at the top of the Tram). After these 3 runs my boots were a little too tight so I popped into the Summit at Snowbird and took a 10 minute break where I downed a few glasses of water. Back out with Nancy this time and we explored Mineral Basin a little more. It was sunny and beautiful over there. The snow was a little crusty but not bad. We went back to the front side of Snowbird at this point and took Chip's Run down occasionally dropping off of the trail onto Hot Foot Gully, and Who Dunnit before ending at the Peruvian Express lift. Up the lift and through the Peruvian Tunnel back to Mineral Basin where we did two laps off of the Baldy Lift. I would try to list the trails we took but honestly with the complete lack of signage it could have been almost anything. Back up Peruvian Express and our day at Mineral Basin was over. We headed skiers left now and dropped down Old Ladies to Regulator Johnson and Barry Barry Steep until we wound up at the bottom of the Gad Valley at the bottom of the Gadzoom lift. At this point I was really sucking wind and my foot was hurting so we hopped on the parking lot shuttle and got dropped off at the car for lunch. We had some sandwiches and I had lots of Gatorade and water before we walked over to the Tram again. Had to wait for one Tram before we headed up on the second one. Weather at the top of the tram was rough with clouds blowing over the top of the mountain and a strong wind. Back down Regulator Johnson (or there abouts) and down to the Gadzoom lift for two laps. We hit up the Gad 2 lift for one run because Nancy wanted to go down Bananas as a last run which turned out to be ungroomed and a long bumpy last run of the day to completely drain our legs and my lungs. The drive back to Salt Lake City was pretty simple, we picked up an exhausted Wally and the three of us crashed almost immediately.

  23. Here are some picture for @Schif’s post. The nacho appetizer was delicious. I appreciate a flatter mountain of nachos. We still have leftovers in the fridge from Wasatch. wally didn’t actually hate his man bun or the igloo life despite the smug 😐 look on his face no one else was in the igloo area. I feel like if this was Philly - it would have been packed and you would needed to have a reservation.

  24. You're creating a false equivalency here though. One of those two sides has a thought process that is at least mostly based in reality. The other preemptively refused to acknowledge the results of an election because its leader said it was rigged before it even happened. While I agree with you that there's probably a lot more people who share 75% of the same stances occupying a large portion of the middle ground here, the far left in this country generally falls pretty well in line with what a lot of europe already has (strong workers' rights, equal access to affordable if not universal government-sponsored healthcare, a look toward a greener future on energy policy), the far right at this point much more closely aligns with what was going on in europe pre-WWII. One of those two ideologies likely much more closely lines up with what that hypothetical 75% in the middle actually wants. Not sure why I'm even posting this; arguing about politics on the internet is just asking for flaming pitchforks...

  27. Its actually totally and completely against the law to run any kind of state boarder based enforcement. They haven't specifically gone to the supreme court on this rona issue but it's pretty clear you can't simply pull people over for having out of state plates and fine or detain them. You could likely talk to them and remind them of things like the governors quarantine order and what not but generally they haven't done any enforcement of said orders because if it goes it court they will lose and there goes their ability to threaten entirely.

  28. Because if I have 12 bullets and 24 people to shoot I have a big fucking problem on my hand. Do you remember Somalia ? When they ran out of bullets they got turned into meat puppets. DC is federal which means under the direction of the executive branch (aka trump) All week DOD, national guard all the alphabet soup repeatedly asked if they required assistance and were denied. The capital police established a perimeter but when they came to the conclusion that they either had to start shooting to maintain the perimeter or let them in they did not feel they had the forces necessary and fell back to the secured locations where senators,vp, etc were being kept. When the extremists tried to breach those locations they shot that women in the neck. You can see the guys hands shaking, its one dude with a pistol vs an angry mob. Once you can get swat, who needs time to assemble and probably had members in the mob, the national guard who was for some reason late (trump) then you can retake the building. In that operation arresting people is not the goal as your just trying to clear the building and get them to go home. Its politically speaking unwise to start shooting people who are in their own minds engaging in protest. You make martyrs out of them and increase their numbers and motivation. The whole thing is a bluff were both sides are trying to figure out how far the other is willing to go. If you have to shoot everyone you've already lost so what your trying to do is get them to go home. You can't just round up 1000 national guard dudes on the spot and dc is a mish mash of various jurisdictions and bull shit because its DC. You can determine intent by your own judgment but I think it's reasonable to assume the guy for which they were all their had something to do with the limited response, after all he loves them apparently.

  31. I didn't say that... I'm saying you haven't skied Elk in 15 ? or so years, and know nothing about Elk Mountain managements' philosophy of snowmaking or trail opening, their equipment, snow guns, or infrastructure. I've skied Elk for the last 38 years (yea I'm an "olds"). In those years they've built more trails, a terrain park with it's own rope tow. (Low priority. I know) installed miles of water and air pipes so that all their slopes, except Lehigh, are covered. New state of the art air compressors, bigger water pumps, new ponds. New fan guns every year it seems, new fixed fan guns in critical areas. Also fixed position guns line most trails. Elk has the best groomers and people who know how to operate them! The last several years, the groomers were able to restore the snow within one or two days of the wet, warm days we've been having.Their surface is on par with the best grooming I've ever skied out West (30+ trips) Importantly, when Elk opens a trail they let the blown snow piles dry out for 2 or 3 days, then they groom. And have enough snow for Edge to Edge coverage. It takes time to get slopes open using this method. Does Blue do that? I think the main problem is Blue can't afford the time to "do it right" due to the huge crowds they service. "Get them open as quick as we can and we'll worry about the cookies later." So yes Blue always has more trails open quicker, but at what cost to the skiers enjoyment? Yes Elk has slow lifts and you have to ride the Elkwagon..(not this year though with buying your tickets on line). No tree skiing is allowed. But new trees are planted every year, making it more Vermont Like! The lodge, although dated, is always clean. And Elk is not limiting ticket sales either, as far as I know. Midweek is always like a country club, except holiday weeks of course. In 38 years I've skied Elk they've been constantly improving all aspects of the skiing experience on Their Mountain and that's the reason I'm an Elkaholic.... Oh yea... they opened 2 more trails from the top today and guns are blasting.. Steeze.. you've been invited several times to enjoy a day at Elk and have always stubbornly resisted. Let me know when you're coming and I'll buy your lift ticket...maybe you'll find something nice to say about Elk in at least one of your 78k posts..... Rummy... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
