We had another great day today. This weekend was cold as balls but the sun was shining which was nice. The grooming and the snow really was nice. The conditions were so nice that my wife was enjoying the groomed black runs which is a big step up in challenge, and my kids were wanting to ski bumps almost every run! I think we’ll do a weekend up there every year from now on we had so much fun. Lift tix were pretty cheap, and the restaurant was decent and really cheap for a ski area. Place was 100% open except for the one natural snow run.13 points

Hey All, I’m back from another fun day at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 7:15am bright eyed and bushy tailed. It was a brisk 21 degrees with moderate winds and some sunshine. In the house was everybody but Kyle, Zonked, Toast, PARidge, Nastar Glenn, MBike Mike, Mixilplix, NMSki and Toast. Second civilian six pack and first run into the challenge wind tunnel. The snow on challenge was nice snow and the falls was not good with some giant cookies. Next I skied switchback which was a carpet and another wind tunnel. Sidewinder had very nice almost packed powder as well. Line got fairly long by about 9am and I mainly skied Challenge and Sidewinder with another trip back to switchback. Off the snow at 9:35am and into the parking lot. Hungout with Indiggio and Eddie a little bit before he rest of the PASRs joined the lot activities. Enjorales cooked a whole bunch of food for the sixth sausage Sunday in a row and last one for 3 weeks or so as Enjo and Pops will be in Colorado next week falalalala. Sausage, bacon, eggs, flatbread, pork rolls, pork loin and steak were all served...along with sautéed onions and peppers. Looking like I’ll be back out Tuesday morning and maybe some new snow. Another solid day of XC skiing with @mbike-ski and @Mixilplix today at James Kennedy State Forest in NY. We ended up getting on the snow just after 11:00. It was a chilly 17 degrees when we pulled in with a light wind and light snow falling pretty much our entire day. Lots of lake effect snow up there this last week dropped ~12" of snow on the ground and provided for some really fantastic xc skiing. We started off doing a nice forest loop right from the start and stayed fairly protected from the wind. After that loop we got out to a snowmobile trail and ended up taking that up to the top of Greek Peak and skiing up part of one of their slopes. to stop for a slope side beer. After that we cruised back down to the snowmobile trail and took that for a bit which ended us right back at the parking lot. Surprisingly, we didn't see anybody else out on the trails while we were there. We ended up with just over 6 miles of skiing and ~600' of vert on some really enjoyable trails. Nice to see real snow on the ground and a big shout out to @mbike-ski for putting this together👌8 points

Great Sunday, even though I rolled in late. Snow wasn't bad. I felt guilty for only going two runs so as I was driving home I wound up pulling in the upper lot, parking right next to the lodge and going back out for a few more mediocre runs. How anyone can actually enjoy 2pm at Blue mountain is beyond me. 3D snow everywhere and out of control people absolutely everywhere.6 points

Nancy you do you...skiing is a recreational activity and we all appreciate your zest for the sport. You skied powder today...none of us did although I think I felt a little float in the manmade Poe at blue. Me and Atomic Jeff have waited 3 hours in line for the tram and an hour and a half in line for the gondola to get some freshies and it was worth it and the next day there were still freshies to be had. Here’s a picture of my parents dog Archie for stoke. You’ll be talking about this day for years. The afterglow of a grate ski day is everlasting. Thanks for sharing your skiing with us!!!5 points

This explains it, I was surprised to still see you out after 2 pm on the Main St chair when I was riding with my Brah. Yeah, the snow was really nice all morning but by afternoon it definitely got choppy and icy in spots due to the high volume of traffic. Lots of jerries out especially on Lazy Mile. Challenge was still nice even by 2:30, we did plenty of runs on it and hardly anyone was on it all day. Falls was crap, though, but at least it's short. We witnessed ski patrol assisting some herbs down the Falls.4 points

Utah was calling for an epic powder day. Maybe my snow dance worked? (I have terrible dancing skillz btw) I heard stories about closing Cottonwood Canyon closing and people leaving at 5am. @GSSucks told me so. The earliest I could drop off the dog was at 7am but when I checked traffic - it looked quite congested. I knew the die hard powder chasers were already lining up for first chairs hours in advance of the 14" dump. So, I decided to wait it out. But, I still got stuck in traffic. Lesson 1: Drop the dog off the night before to board or find an alternative sitter on rover. Lesson 2: Don't wait it out. Get there before the canyon closes. For me, time is just a construct. I'm late to almost everything in life. I rarely make firm plans. The clock-in to work an exact time type of job doesn't work for me but I'm not lazy. When my sister asks when I'm returning to Pennsylvania, I get the "how in the world do you not plan these type of things?" So. yeah. I'm late to a lot of things and usually just have rough plan. Oh, and I like to sleep 10+ hours. So, all of that combined ... Lesson 3: For powder days, you don't need friends to ski with. But, find someone to brew the coffee and play the pump up music as an alarm. So. I know I'm going to get flack for all of the eternity on PASR because of being so late to a powder day. I understand. lol. So, when I arrived at Snowbird, I headed to my usual "entry 2" and although I had a parking reservation, I couldn't find anywhere to park. I drove in circles, asked attendants, and they told me - "I'm sorry. I don't know." I was talking to an unnamed PASR guy on the phone at the time. He instructed me to abandon my vehicle & go running to the nearest skill hill because there are in fact no laws on powder days or when drinking claws. He was yelling meeeerder the perrrrder. (Note: do not take legal advice from someone who hangs out in parking lots.) Lesson 4: Just go park at Entry 4 by the fire station. See my epic photo shop skillz below. It's less walking to the lift. You can ski down Chickadee (the kids run) and it spits you out at the tram line. When you end the day, you can take Chips Face to OMG to Cliff Access, and it pops you out right by the lot. Here we go. I arrived at 9:45. Finally got parking at 10:30. Started waiting at 10:45. The wait was annoying but I had an obligation so it worked out anyway. (I mentor a high school student who is applying to summer programs and she has a deadline coming up.) Got on the tram around 12:15 and chatted with two ladies in their 70's, who seemed to bypass the line. They got 8 laps in so far because of the bypass line. They've been passholders since college in the 70's. Turns out they have the Seven Summits pass. You get first tracks starting at 7:45am + Eucalyptus steam room + other benefits. Honestly, it sounds lovely. They were on the wait list for years and they usually allow about 60 people on each year. They said it costs a few thousand dollars. These woman were badass grandmoms. https://www.snowbird.com/seven-summits/ When I got to the top, they recently opened Mineral Basin and you could hear echos of wooots. It was magical. This was heading down somewhere near Lupine Loop on one of my runs. But, when you got to the Mineral Basin and Baldy lift. This is what it looked like. You can hear the powder hoots in the beginning of this clip. So by 1pm, the lines started to die down and I played in Mineral Basin area. You could still find untouched lines. I mean, it was deep. Like, this deep. This was my favorite lines of the day.. you can see the speckles of 2 people on Path to Paradise. You drop in any of the unmarked black runs and were greeted with powder after more powder. Here's a view from the top of Path to Paradise. Eventually went to the Baldy lift because the lines were significantly shorter. The runs off of Baldy kind of remind me of Copper. Just so wiiiiiide open. (also <-- one of my favorite songs) In the pic below, the lines in the top left are Chamonix Bowl and the Chamonix Chutes to it's right. In the pic below, to the right is Alta's Sugarloaf lift. If you took it wide near the Ski Patrol Gully lines, you could still get untracked powder by the end of the day. It was an awesome day. Lots of woot'ing. Lots of heavy breathing and smiles. I don't think my legs would have been able to handle a 9-4pm powder day. It already hurts to walk up and down steps in the best type of way. 10/10 day.3 points

@skiincy one time I missed first chair at Stowe on a powder day and I didn't even have to go to doggy day care or sit in traffic. And my hotel was like 2 miles from the mountain3 points

When I got my second shot, I took Motrin on my way to Blue, skied all day and felt good. Took Motrin again in the afternoon and before bed. Maybe I felt good because I was in my happy place.3 points

There was natural snow all around, but probably not enough for any of it to really be skiable without wrecking your skis. Just a few inches. Adds to the wintry experience though when there’s not exposed dirt everywhere you look.2 points

Nice meeting and riding with you today. PSU and I had a simultaneous adventure on Falls today. As I slide on my rear end for the top 5 yards of Falls, I watched him get cut off by a skier at the bottom of Falls. He avoided it nicely though.2 points

Can I ask for pardon from the PASR community? I just knew there was no way I was gonna get first chair. I had to drop my dog off at 7am but there was crazy congestion by then. So, I gave it some time to die down and left my place around 8am. Still sat in stand still traffic. for the first few hours of the day, only the front side was open and the lines were insane. not mad about it. Still was epic. or Ikonic.2 points

Snagged greek tix today. Never been and I'm pretty stoked to check it out.. will likely hit it on the way to Lake Placid.2 points

Lines got better after 12. Totally right. @AtomicSkier best. Day. snowboarding at Loveland in 2008 is now demoted to my #2 day when I got off the tram, they just opened miner basin and it was the most magical moment of my life. I can only attribute It to luck and good karma. knee deep to waist deep. Fresh tracks. line at mineral basin became crazy too but baldy lift was quick and a great time. I’ll write something longer later tonight2 points

Wow, that's nucking futs how it snows up there all the time when it doesnt here. That's exactly how it was when I was there 2 weeks ago and it was sickbird! JohnnyLaw and I were just talking about how Elk's climate is so different than Blue's even though it's not so far away. Radical!2 points

We had a great day at Elk today. Spent most of the day on the quad side and the whole family enjoyed it. There was fresh snow blown on the ungroomed trails, and the bumps were nice and soft. It even started snowing pretty hard for a bit and there was a decent couple of inches on top of the bumps on Chippewa. My son and I were the first tracks down and it was a blast! The kids enjoyed Tunkhannock also and I’m really happy that they are keeping up with me. My son on Chippewa pics of the fam Tunkhannock in the AM2 points

(This is the second PASR acronym I had to google this weekend.) Oops. I should have publicly extended an invite. I have my airbnb until January 31st at least. There's a small sofa, an air mattress, and an extra size twin size mattress if anyone wants to visit in the next week.1 point

First off, Doug, this is the Crested Butte thread. I don’t want to hear about Jackson Hole here. On to the snow....crowds were non existent as is usual for a non holiday weekday here. My first run as I was traversing over to Paradise Lift, I got into my head a bit and realized these were the exact conditions when I fell last season and got my concussion. On the head wall where I fell I was very cautious, bad energy. did 3 laps on Paradise and the snow was great! Took a different way down each time and was able to find some bumps on every run. By the third lap fog had rolled in and visibility was pea soup so I headed down to East River lift. First run was on Black Eagle and 1/2 way down there were some big bumps to navigate but they were nice and soft so it wasn’t too bad. Did a few more over there and headed back past the Paradise Lift to the Teocalli. Wanted to hit Buschwack as it wasn’t opens last time I was here. The bumps there are good size for me to practice on. Did 2 laps on that and headed back to the front side doing a bit of light trees where I could find them. Should snow all day through tonight. Have a feeling tomorrow is going to be a shit show.1 point
