  1. Today was good. The wind really wasn't that much of a problem and the snow was pretty good everywhere. Its nice to see them continue to crank out the snow. Surprisingly good was NMDW with nobody on it first thing this morning. Also nice to ski under blue skies.

  2. Skied at blue today, resetting the “why don’t you ski for once” insult from Doug for another 3 days. Arrived in the lower lot around 3:30 after a quick stop at buckmans to see if I could find a replacement for my pants that are on their way out. 3 tour busses coming up the hill with NY plates, wasn’t sure if this was a good or bad sign. Lower lot was probably about 40% full, lots of people meandering in the lot so tough to tell if coming or going. Booted up, headed to the 6pack for the first runs of the season. Line was 3 people deep from the scanners but moving relatively well (I think). 3 minutes from skis on to the chair. Not bad. First run was down sidewinder, top section was soft and surprisingly smooth for 4pm. Lower two sections were a mixture of cookies and piles of sugar. Made things interesting to navigate them as well as the multi family yard sale that was taking place. Back up the 6 and took a run down lazy. I must’ve been in the perfect rotation because I only saw 1 other person on it until the end of the trail. Lazy was good, soft snow, some sugar piles but nothing bad, no ice spots, fun little side hits, etc. next few runs in order were paradise, sidewinder again, challenge, over to come around-midway, Main Street, and another paradise run to end the night. challenege was good up top. Hit a patch of boiler plate/ice halfway down and did a sweet 540 laying on my side. back to the lot around 730 or so, stuck around for a beer with my buddies and hit the road around 8 and made great time getting home. Unfortunately I didn’t get any photos. I actually turned my phone on airplane mode so it was music only and just cruised all night. They were blowing snow on a random assortment of trails as sell as 2 guns blowing directly into the glade area on lazy (?) so tomorrow morning should be $$$$ for those of you going. my legs hurt. I’m out of shape. But I was able to ski without my knee brace and no discomfort today which is a win in my book. I’ll be back for a sausage Sunday at some point this season. This was also the first time in 10+ years I’ve been skiing/snowboarding and not hit the park one time. TR for Eaf: there was more than 20 people there. Lifts were going up with 2 people. There was sugar piles, it was cloudy and no classic Blue sunset.

  3. Pretty fun morning on the skis..Wind was a little tough at times but the snow was good...Cold and dry enough so the snow they were blowing wasn't sticky....Crowds were not bad either...Switch and Side were the ROTD for me...I saw TP4 pull in the lot but did not see him the whole time I was skiing... 4. Only the old heads will remember Sharp Mountain. This is the area from above, right on the west side of Pottsville. The ski area has been greatly altered by coal mining since closing in 1973.

  5. Hey All, I’m back from another fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 820am and it was in the lower 20s with a brisk north wind. In the house were Johnny Law, Atomic Jeff, TP4, BenM, Mixiplix, Ryan, Mute, Toast, Rodney, Bethlehem Ford Guy, zzslope, Marty and many others. First run on razors you had to fight the wind to get to it and the snow was pretty nice and smooth. Challenge and the falls were closed due to snowmaking. Main Street has very nice snow but was also in a wind tunnel.Sidewinder to lower sidewinder was alright. No real liftlines..mini backups from when the lift stopped. I managed 8 runs from 9-10:15 then hungout in the lot for about 40 minutes drinking beer. All in all it was a fun session with good snow. Ski everybody this weekend..JADIP

  7. Getting to blue will be harder than driving any interstate. NY does a good job with the thruway. I better not have to pass a sonic clogging up the access road.

  8. Wao, what a grate night at Montage. Arrived around 1800 and walked down like 100 steps to get my $30 discounted lift ticket, then walked up like 100 steps and moved my Chevy Sonic as close to the Phoebe lift as physically possible. Skied some blacks and double blacks like Cannonball, Smoke and White Lightning. Also did Lower Fast Track (dark and icy) and Lower Runaway (even more dark and icy). Then toured the flatlands (blues) at the top of the mountain for old time sake, and did 3 runs. It was a bit windy, cold, and flat so I went back down to the expert slopes which are protected from much of the wind. On my way down I skied Upper Fast Track which was pitch black much of the way. Boo. Skied more expert runs and mostly stuck to Boomer since they're blowing fresh perder and it was like literally amaze-balls for night skiing. The snow was nice and soft. Also did White Lightning a few times. The main Expert slopes (White lightning, Boomer, Smoke, & Cannonball) are very well lit compared to the rest of the mountain. Overall a grate night and conditions were pretty nice. Not a death cookie or sugar pile in sight, just a few slick spots here and there but nothing crazy. JADIP ice is nice.

  12. They are usually very bearish. Yesterday, the AM weatherman said there was a "possibility this misses us south." Today, we were going to get at least some "shovelable snow." On the evening news, this was the graphic tonight. I'm gettin hype.

  13. With all of that forecasted, it does look like you will have trouble getting from the upstairs, to the downstairs, so i would cancel work on account of public safety.

  14. At one point I could have agreed with that but the more circus shit they put out around that base area the more it drops on my list. Seeing that while skiing just bothers me for some reason.

  21. Sidewinder was def the run of the day. Kind of lights out on the bottom half early on, but flat enough to absorb any unseen bumpyness. Stayed on the Main St lift.

  22. i am also being lead to believe the more North you are, the less snow you will get. I dont think NY is looking at a huge storm. At least right now.

  23. Good for CB for making it a resort vacation destination. More people want to go there than they do all of the other mountains so that's a net positive for the sport. We are just a small minority that are going after a completely different dynamic. I think it's safe to say that Camelback has not been a ski resort since the early 2000s when Camelbeach really took off. I would say that the moment it switched over from a ski resort to what it is now was when they removed the alpine slide. And yes the mountain coaster is weird but Park City and Snowbird have them too and no one really complains.

  29. One reason I was thinking of doing Gore was to split up the drive home a little... drive 1.5 hours to Gore, then home. But now I changed my plans due to the forecast and will just stay at WF. I'd ski Gore Saturday but highly highly doubt that's going to happen (no tickets). But yeah, Gore looks like a cool mountain which I'll like and itll likely be my next destination for a northeast ski trip.

  30. Still so much better than JFBB in my opinion.

  31. I'd take the extra day at WF while driving that far and save Gore for a trip where I don't want to drive that far.

  32. For those of you who think you might have gotten hit by those traffic cameras recently, you can download PA E DOCKET from the App Store and search by your name and birthday to see if there are any open cases against you and if you should be expecting a citation in the mail. edit: this is assuming a traffic camera citation would show up there

  33. thanks, i am seeing that now. i thought it was someone standing on top of a car. sort of related - nobody else here prob gives a shit about google satellite images but google updated their map imagery for my area in the last week. they must have done it right after i mowed (so, lines) and my yard isn't a disaster (prob because i had just mowed and needed to clean up). every time i mow, i hope google takes the photo right after and it actually happened. sorry, i'm just really excited and have to tell someone.

  37. Blue has been extra aggressive with snowmaking this season. It’s all about the bass or base amiright

  39. It has 90% to do with your tires and 10% to do with clearance. Your all seasons suck. My previous cars have been lower than yours *and* RWD and snow tires made them plenty capable.

  43. For me it is a toss up between CB and Blue. I'd take Blue weekdays (longer runs) and CB weekends/ holidays (easier to avoid lines). But I mostly ski weekends/holidays. I'd place Montage #3 (Northface is best terrain in NEPA and never a line - but a lot further for me, slow lifts and shorter runs - Long Haul gets you a longer run but lift ride is so long and you can't hit the best terrain) I'd place JF and Roundtop about tied for #4 Elk is the best in NEPA in terms of terrain and snow - but isn't even a factor as it is as far as Hunter and Belleayre for me.

  45. Then you should be fine, I’m not sure if warnings would show up on there though.

  46. You should take off work. Even if it’s not a pow day, skiing is better than work and your co workers are probably sick of seeing you everyday.
