do you like cookies? do you like super firm, uneven grooming? what about waiting in line for 10 min by your third run? if so, today was your day to touch the sky at blue mtn. everything sucked. packed by 9:30. saw mutes squirrel digging holes under the sixer where lazy mile merges with sidewinder. was on first chair but got beat to challenge because it stopped near the unloading zone. didn't see anyone else there. challenge was super firm, cookied up, and uneven. razors was the worst i've seen in recent memory. every inch was cookies. sidewinder not too bad, firm. lower main st was pretty bumpy. switch was rotd, not too bad, a little softer than the rest. i did that long run midway to burma, ok. midway was cookied up. if you couldn't make it today for whatever reason, you didn't miss out on much. i'm hoping tomorrow makes up for it.6 points

LCC is 100% closed, Alta & Bird are closed with no reopening date or time posted from what I have heard, maximum security interlodge is in effect with an enacted hourly head count. Alta is reporting 87" since Thursday morning. RT 210 is the most avalanche prone road in the US that remains open year round. A few things have happened, the last few summers LCC had some big mud slides, this takes out more trees/rocks/vegetation (snow anchors) than an avalanche will and clears the way for avalanches. From what I have heard, a UDOT plow truck and cat were burred when Lisa's ripped, LIsa's has not avalanched to the road in 60+ years, Lisa's also had a big mud slide over the summer, see where this is going? Superior also ripped yesterday morning and went almost to the bypass road, that was before the 19" that was reported yesterday and last night. I was looking at the road cameras this morning and a no snow removal was done above Lisas since yesterday, pretty much between Lisas and Bird entry 1 (~5 miles) is a big unknown as no one has traveled it. The snowpack was super touchy before this storm and this is not going to help. Alta patrol is running routs, if they can get the mountain skiable before the road opens it will be a country club day (or few days) for the folks that are interlodged.6 points

Another day another storm. Snow breeds snow, as GSS says. Timing looks like it might be a little later in the morning so we might get some nice groomers followed by rider-of-the-storm conditions which may result in a new PASR Magazine cover! Still in the 5-8" range with locally higher amounts. Pack your shovels and beers! Who will be riding the coldest 6pack in Carbon County for tomorrow's storm and for this weekend?5 points

I think the fun part of this storm is that off trail the fresh snow is falling on an existing snowpack. It's going to make me feel a lot better about heading into the trees and not worrying completely what's under my feet.5 points

Awesome...in the off-topic section of the magazine, maybe we could have a recipe section (baking bread with Toast) and Automotive Section (car care with Salty - in this issue, topics include "WTF is an O2 sensor")5 points

sounds like they need to dig some snow out in front of the loading zone for the doubles so people stop catching their skis on it. also, aren't you the one who complains about people not sharing the chair with others?4 points

WJW, that's what happens when Doug takes a vacation from writing his JADIP reports. Everything just falls apart. I'll say that the snow wasn't terrible, but it wasn't awesome like in the last few weeks either. Blue's trademark grooming is back. And so are the crowds. In fact, I kinda liked the snow, was very skiable, not everywhere, but still. I didn't like the crowds a little bit. Anywhere. It was clear that the day was doomed when I had to park far. The lines started forming almost right away. I had to quit at 11:15 because it was too bad everywhere, even at the slow lifts. Oh wait, why did I say "lifts"? Blue management figured that since it was a Wednesday morning they could avoid running Burma and Vista chairs, so everybody was lining up for the Main Street chairs. Who would've thought that people, having skipped icy Monday and Tuesday, in light of a bad commute on Thursday, would decide to show up on a sunny Wednesday?? The crowds were also weird. Main street lift had to stop every few mins because people were continuously losing their skis. And everybody decided to be efficient all of a sudden. Once on the quad I was joined w/o being asked by two crazy Russians w/o masks who kept on talking trash and spitting all the way up. Once on the 6-pack I was warmly invited to share the ride with 4 other elderly yet brave folks from the clan of Connor MacLeod. And once on Main street some guy was just gonna load with me, no questions asked. In short, I liked the snow, the new skis, adored the unique crowd and hate Salty who said that after the President's day we're out of the woods.4 points

Its been speculated before that they are probably doing pretty well with day pass sales, so rolling out the season pass this early might not be quite as good for them as years past. I mean, when it comes out pretty much means nothing to any of us edit. What Doug said. And i would agree it will be march3 points
-
My guess is no season pass pricing until March. With all the tickets Blue has been selling and a likely extended season into April, I don’t think they want to give away to much skiing this season for new passholders. Be patient Eaf3 points

Someone could be vaccinating the rest of his Blue Mountain family, but whatever. 😀 my parents were able to get their first, kind of out of the blue the other day, so im pretty happy about that.3 points

I should be there Saturday morning. Might take a day off Friday and go somewhere, but I'm thinking Blue Knob if I'm doing that (wrong Blue mountain for this thread, I know)3 points

i hope this is just some good trolling. https://www.mcall.com/opinion/readers-react/mc-opi-let-montgomery-covid-19-bill-letter-20210106-6sfwf7do4rgpvhzrxzm4ep32aq-story.html A letter printed on Jan. 3 was entitled “COVID-19 bill will send millions overseas.” The letter writer confused the COVID-19 bill with the government funding plan, which includes foreign aid spending. There was no money for overseas spending included in the COVID-19 bill. The Morning Call should never have printed this letter, as it perpetuates misinformation. Karen Montgomery Bethlehem Township https://www.mcall.com/opinion/readers-react/mc-opi-let-montgomery-schlossberg-fireworks-law-20200627-ol7sqhniljdwnhv55372zhua3e-story.html I would suggest that state Rep. Mike Schlossberg go a few steps further in his proposed amendment to the fireworks law. Don’t just confiscate the rest; give a hefty fine — say $500 to start — and a place on an electronic “do not sell’ list to vendors. They of course can get someone else to buy them, but the prospect of continued fines and confiscations might help. Certainly concern for the well being of other living creatures isn’t enough incentive to act like a decent citizen. Karen Montgomery Bethlehem Township2 points

if you're interested in the historical data for availability, i have snapshots of every 4 hours for the last 10 days. doesn't look like anything funny going on (ie. pumping more tix based on forecast) but there is some bizarre shit on occasion.2 points

Saw this this morning too. Crazy. I had to research what Interlodge meant .. for anyone else, it's when "outside travel is restricted and everyone is ordered to stay indoors because of the avalanche danger." Highway 210 has a "Highway Avalanche Hazard Index of 766, the highest in North America." https://www.snowbird.com/interlodge/2 points
