  3. Riding the gondi solo. New gondolas a swanky AF. My daughter will be here after her physics test. Cloudy at the peak so it may not be the best day for pics but I'll see what I can do for my fellow PASRs. Stoked as always to be at the True beast of the east and one of my favorite places anywhere. 4. I came up for a post rain session figuring empty bleachers and sure enough nobody is here. One of the few I have seen is a man fitting a plastic bag around his boot, the purpose of which eludes me. Waterproofing his boot ? Just one ? Does he keep his lunch in there ?

  6. Dumping out. The last hour or so was skiing with a tinge of accumulated pow. Maybe an inch or so. Never got to the summit. It never opened. It was little WF all day with one run off lookout mountain and toward the end laps off the face lift as everything high closed around 3. Still a great freaking day. Ride home was sketch.

  8. Just skied approach to wilderness and made the most miraculous recovery in all my years of skiing. Flat light and foggy I didn't see a lip right before the pitch...came in with speed, saw the lip last minute and tried to stop but it was too late. Did a 180, and backwards wedged on that pitch (wilderness) with speed for about 300 or so feet. Finally dug in hard enough to stop but miraculously stayed up right. Literally had to pull over and just sit for like 10 minutes to absorb what just happened.

  14. Strange weather. cloudy this morning and kinda warm - upper 30s. Temps are gonna drop it like it's hot however with a low of negative 4 overnight tonight. With the temp drop should come some snow which is supposed to start around 1pm... nothing crazy...1 to 3 inches or so. As for the skiing... looking like cloudspin is on tap today. Over on lookout mountain Wilmington and maybe sugar valley are a go but hoyts and lookout below are likely not happening. Upper empire is listed as closed but we'll see if they drop the ropes. Should be minimal in the way of crowds which could make for a pretty great day. More to come...

  15. Someone asked about discounts on summer activities with season pass on blue's FB page. I commented that it was quietly removed this year. Annnddd I can no longer comment on their stuff and my posts were removed.

  16. When you go to snowbasin make sure you use the bathrooms at the top of JP lift. Doubly so if you have to poop. Nicest bathrooms in skiing in UT, maybe anywhere.

  28. Senior year of high school the ski club took a trip to park city. We befriended a bus driver who bought everyone booze and cigarettes. One night driving through town we asked him to run over a stop sign and he actually did it. We all cheered as the bus drove away from the mangled stop sign. It layed on the side of the road the rest of the trip

  29. Arrived not too long ago. Took just over 4 hours to get here from greek peak. About 4.5 with a few stops. The Wendy's Asiago chicken ranch whatever on a pretzel bun is the fuckin bomb btw. Today was awesome. Greek peak is a freaking treat. I can't believe this was my first time skiing it. Worth 2 hours from the Poconos and will be back.. There's a crap ton of tree skiing and I wasn't expecting the old school vibe. It was busy but never waited more than 2 minutes for a lift. Was really impressed with some of the steeper pitches there. Stoked for the main event tomorrow however. Time to check the weather.

  34. Ha, not even close. I've only fallen on one groomer this year - that ice patch on Chute. But I still suck in ungroomed snow and fall pretty frequently. I made it down a lengthy ungroomed diamond this morning without falling which was rad Wifi sucks at uploading so heres one pic taken prior to my disastrous run

  37. Really liking the Enforcers. Very fun ski and I could definitely see myself buying a pair. You guys will be proud. I fell in some gnarly terrain on a n ungroomed black diamond and my ski popped off. I was able to rebind on steep ass slope with lots of Perder by using the leg crossing technique. Sick!

  39. Waist width and flex only go so far in the stability game. The ski industry is in a weird pivotal place right now, and I think trends might start reversing in a few years unless there's some cosmic leap in ski construction (Renoun maybe? Haven't skied them). Wider underfoot will definitely make a ski more stable when skiing over uneven or chopped up snow, as will more layers of titanal, carbon, fiberglass, flax, cork, whatever other sort of exotic material you throw in there, but the mass of a ski plays a large role too. Stiff, wide, light skis tend to get tossed around and deflected in firmer crud snow than a ski with the same dimensions and flex but more mass would. If you think of it like a car, you can have a car that's super lightweight, really stiff, and it'll probably corner like a dream on a racetrack. We don't ski on the equivalent of a racetrack very often, especially at blue, so you need a car (or ski) that has some degree of compliance and suspension to it, to help it track the ground and maintain its grip when navigating over bumpier chopped up terrain. Blister Gear goes into pretty good detail about this with pretty much every ski they review, and while I think they probably ski on the more aggressive end of things, a lot of what they talk about in their reviews can be extrapolated to make sense in a lot of different contexts, too. Or just go the TGR route and get the longest, stiffest ski you can find.

  40. Been a while since i've skied canyons, but i believe the tin can used to run earlier than the regular mountain lifts, as it isn't really a "skiing" chairlift but more of a transit thing to get you from the parking lot to the actual base. We stayed in the condos at the base of the cabriolet a few times and I swear I remember getting on that thing and up to the base of the ski area before the real lifts started spinning for the day. From what I've read (haven't skied them, so grain of saltyant and whatnot) next year's M6 mantra is supposed to be a more accessible/easier to ski ski than the M5 and previous iterations of the manta have been; tweaked flex characteristics, slightly looser rocker profile, etc. I wouldn't rule it out just because @AtomicSkier says the version he has (which is a few years old) would punish you.

  41. Salty the best ski is the one that works for you. TP4 would suggest the mantras.

  43. I'm just curious to see if they can continue to get that rate when there are other options for entertainment and recreation next winter. People will be traveling to warmer destinations again, indoor dining will be less restricted if at all, people will feel more comfortable with having friends/family over at their houses, etc. Will some of the people who saw skiing as an opportunity so safely socialize with friends outdoors continue to do so in the future? Probably, but I doubt there's a 100% stick rate with that, and a bunch of people who justified that ticket price this year because they had nothing else to do might not feel the same way next season. Re: season passes, did anyone actually get the email that allows you to purchase the pass at the renewal rate? I got the email saying that I was going to get an email, which wasn't super helpful.

  47. I previously stated I demoed the Mantras, but correction - they were Kendos which I enjoyed pretty much equally to the Enforcers. The Kendos felt stiffer but that might be the placebo effect. Last pair for the hour - Head Kore 99 based on @Johnny Law 's recommendation The challenge here is I'm trying to explore the mountain and demo at the same time, so it's not the most conducive way to swap out skis. But this is my third pair of the day and I'm happy with the experience.
