well i'm back from an atypical day at blue mtn. not too busy today but i took the quad for all but 2 runs. was windy. arrived around 8:35 and it took me a second to realize that they were working on the normal row. was bizarre parking elsewhere but its all good. decided to take the quad up first run. paid off and I was three chairs ahead of the sixer by the top and able to make my way to the top of... a closed Razor's edge. FML. wasn't paying attn and got pretty close to the fence so had to skate over to a very firm, semi-cookied challenge. not bad though, was a consistent condition and level throughout. did main street next. some skiffs of light snow on a lot of it, with the one side of it groomed. wasnt sticky or anything. pretty good. sidewinder next, firm, little cookies, finally noticed the rollers ppl were talking about, little guys. switch after that, even though it wasn't terrible, it was worse than normal. on the ride up the quad, i noticed that 'lower razors' was open, so a run down sidewinder with some speed at the bottom and I may or may not have have indulged. lazy mile was ROTD since tut's lane doesn't count. chalky, soft snow. a little slow but it was good. another run down sidewinder with boomers acting as slalom gates with enough speed to maybe hit lower razors again. took one last quad ride up to get some pics. but it got interesting. 'lower razors' was in the process of being closed, ah well, that was that. until i heard ski patrol, clearly from above, saying 'people are stupid'. who is stupid? whoever went onto an open trail or whoever neglected to do their job? well i had to find out of course, so quick final run down challenge where i stopped to have a chat with one of them (it was not the person who said it) asking who was stupid and let them know that they could be heard from the lift above. it was a polite chat, they were just doing their job, but the possibility of them calling someone stupid for going somewhere not closed did not sit well. anyway, that was that, back to the lot and left. overall it was a pretty good day.6 points

Couple of other interesting stats ... tomorrow I'll match my longest skiing streak ever at 27 days in a row. And Monday with @mute1080 I will hit 200 days skied in the west / Europe since the start of PASR 😀6 points

I woke up early this morning since it was snowing and had a big drive to Monarch and they were reporting 1 inch as of 5:30, but it dumped for a few hours and we had a nice 6” of fresh in the morning and major dumpage from late morning through the rest of the day. Lots of nice powder turns and the first pow day my kids have experienced. What a cool little mountain Monarch is. It’s not that big and has small vert but the vibe was amazing and there was some really fun terrain. Nice steep runs from the top of panorama along the continental divide and some nice trees as well. I hiked Mirkwood, which is the “side country” area there and between the fresh and wind deposited snow I was getting knee deep in spots. It was awesome to see my kids get the hang of skiing powder and everyone is pooped!6 points

Possibly. I'm the proud new owner of a Bleu Mountain pass, so I'm tempted to not drive as far. I'm considering Windham to check it off of my list. Possibly March 13, March 20 or after Easter. I like to keep my plans loose.4 points

I wonder if the Salomon Center is still a thing in Ogden. You could play ski-ball, skydive, surf, buy meth, and eat nachos all in one place. A jackpot for adrenaline junkies. Or just junkies.4 points

Cancel your ski day right now. Did you even know that there's a dinosaur park right by the restaurant you just ate at? https://www.dinosaurpark.org/ And a botanical garden is right there too!4 points

I really wish I could take 2-3 months off work and ski out here all winter. Or just be retired. Unfortunately for me I'm a slave to the man @AtomicSkier3 points

Bullshit, I have pictures of @snorovr upside down in a bush in Moonshine Bowl, and I know you were there. Sun King is "Sticky Ditch" then you are stuck in the hell hole that is Gordons Gully. Basin moves people, I dont remember lift lines ever really being a thing there even on holiday weekends.3 points

There's also a hot spring right off the road at the mouth of the canyon on the way up to basin from ogden. @saltyant you should check it out for a nice soak after a long day of ripping groomers today. Yup, the olympics got that road looking real nice and well plowed on pow days, too. Trees off the top of JP/No Name are super fun with good snow, but yeah, out of bounds and you can end up in the wrong spot if you don't hang skiers right soon enough. That place is the definition of a COVID superspreader event.3 points

We have a little group that parks in the corner and pulls out their camp chairs to boot up. Got complimented on my fold up rocking chair yesterday. Occasionally have to use the bathroom and am scared of the hand driers. Story about a nurse that dressed up for her hospital around the holidays as a fan powered inflatable Christmas tree and spread Covid to practically everyone on the floor. Wife and I are a little achy after our second Moderna shot yesterday, but no major reactions so far.2 points

@saltyant if you ever go on a ski trip with @NMSKI he’ll always make sure you have plenty of towels.2 points

Sorry the lack of updates. Been dealing with some issues the last few days. Been pretty warm and sunny other than about 4" of snow yesterday. Got out at opening to get that freshness. But, Tuesday night, I had just left the house to pick up my friend at the Gunnison airport, and 2 miles outside of town, I hit a massive pothole, instantly flattening my front right tire, and bubbling my back right tire. I noticed another car pulled over in front of me, and I watched as two more cars get flats. I decided to have the car towed back into town for the night (while stranding my friend at the airport, LOL) and deal with getting it somewhere Wednesday AM. AAA was there in like 15 minutes, and towed me back into town. Wednesday AM, I made a few calls to places in Gunnison, found somewhere that could make it happen, so I shipped them two new snow tires from TireRack, which happens to have a warehouse in Denver, which means the tires would get there Thursday. I had the car towed the 35 minutes down to Gunnison around lunch time on Wednesday. By Thursday at 2pm, the car was all ready, so I took the RTA bus down to Gunnison to pick up the car. They even washed my filthy ass car. It was a good ending to an otherwise annoying/distracting/stressful 48 hours. Going to give TireRack's road hazard warranty a program test 😀 If I submitted the paperwork correctly, should only be a $70 annoyance.2 points

You're already doing better than these three in 2002. At least you finished the run. I would imagine they would smoke all of PASR head to head though. 2 Caroline Lalive United States DNF 7 Petra Haltmayr Germany DNF 27 Anne Marie Lefrancois Canada DNF2 points

They never seem to know what's going on somehow, like the pow day morning. I'm headed up on my way back from Towanda, sun is hyper strong so a warm cold day. The parking lot just looks weird2 points

Just enjoy yourself today. If they get long then post up on a deck somewhere with some food and a drink. Soak in the scenery and vitamin D from the sun ☀️2 points

Full sun today? Looking forward to more pics and thoughts on the skis. Did you bring your RTMs too in case you don't like those? Enjoy your last day Saltman.2 points

It's colder I'll give you that - and there are more wind holds at higher elevation. Reduces the freeze/thaw issue though cause it's not like it doesn't freeze often South of VT. Definitely the conditions I have skied in VT have been better than those I have skied in NY or PA this winter. And the terrain is so much better than PA it's silly. In PA I regularly call it a day when I get bored of the terrain. That has never happened in VT. But please do your best to keep the crowds at Blue 🙂2 points

Strange to say but if you like Basin thank one mittens Romney. When the Olympics got all fucked up he got major money to bail them out and Basin got alot of nice shit with mittens money. I like go up the tram out no name and ride the trees back to the trolley parking lot. OB so be careful but it's like lift service slack with a butler that picks you up and takes you back to the base.2 points

Gotcha nice strategy. Hows the holiday inn express in Ogden? I saw it’s onky $82 a night. That’s cheap.1 point

Blue is offering 50% off rentals on indoor and outdoor event space through August. While they are selling a lot of daily tickets thanks to favorable weather that end of the business is hurting. My cousins wedding that was supposed to be last May is now summer of 2022.1 point

Thought my GoPro battery was dead but it was taking video for 42 minutes straight. First world problems 💁♂️ I'll probably put a short montage video together Sunday. But I didnt yell milk it on this trip or ski the Elan Ripsticks in the parking lot1 point

The John Paul Jones lift has no line. It's the expert lift. The gondola lines are pretty bad. I still want to do a few more runs on the Strawberry side before the end1 point

Shrimp salad. It was delicious and big so I was full from it. I might go back to that place tonight. Left the waitress a big tip because she was new. I overheard the senior waiter coaching her on what to say to me which was pretty funny1 point

I could spend all day on the Strawberry side, it's so much fun. Too bad there's no lift as riding the gondola as a single can be a hassle. I also like the Wildcat Express a lot as it's a 6 person express which had no line all day After posting this just read on Wikipedia that there are plans for a high speed quad on the Strawberry side.1 point
