Great and much needed family ski trio to Elk. We have not had much chance to get away so we decided to get an airbnb cabin 5 minutes from the mountain and get a weekday ski in. It is getting tough to get out and expensive with all 5 of us skiing. Sunday was a great day. A few flurries and some squalls made it feel like midwinter skiing. We spent most of day 1 on East/West Meadow and Tioga to get the kids(7, and 10 year old) more comfortable. We ate in the Winter Garden restaurant. Shared nachos, wife and son shared asian chicken, little guys had chicken tenders and chicken noodle soup. Everything was pretty good and not too expensive. Toward the end of the day we were lapping Mahican to Lenape. I really enjoy that trail because of the tree and views actually remind me of a trail in Vermont. Snow was pretty good, some sugar, some mashed potatoes. We headed to our cabin which was pretty nice and had a wood stove to warmup. I went to a Cable's market to pick up pizzas and baked goods for the kids. Monday was even better. Woke up and headed back to Cable's for coffee, Breakfast sandwiches and muffins. Arrived at Mountain around 10:00. No crowds really helped with the kids confidence. We jumped on the quad from our car and started the day on Mahican/Lenape. Snow was perfectly groomed. It was a bluebird day and cold so the snow was fast. We started hitting all of the blue trails the rest of the day. The kids loved kickapoo and handled all of the turns really well. We then went to Wissahickon which was steeper then i thought but kids enjoyed it and wanted to do it multiple times. We went to lodge for a break/lunch and then hit Delaware. My wife and the younger 2 hung at the lodge so my 13 yo and I could hit Susquehanna. My son ripped down the trail, I was going pretty fast also but he smoked me. He was waiting near the lift and when I got there he said, "I have been waiting a while, Slow poke." The rest of the day was spent lapping the blue trails near the quad. I took one run Tecumseh to see if my daughter could handle it(she probably could have) but no reason to risk ruining her confidence after 2 great days.9 points

I’m kind of an equipment freak, so keep that in mind, everything is IMHO. I hot wax every week. You want the wax to adsorb into the sintered ptex base, and not have it merely on the surface where the first couple of runs takes it off. In fact, after waxing you want to scrape and then brush off the wax from the surface so the structure (the pattern on the bases) is exposed and helps to break the suction between the ski and the snow, especially in spring. The stop/go, stop/go in slushy snow is usually due to the suction and not the wax. I try to stick with non-floro broad range hydrocarbon waxes for cost and exposure safety reasons. I hot wax for 5 or 10 minutes, scrape, and then roto brush them out. When you really want to wax often is in cold weather icy conditions when you can burn your skis, and get a whitish strip along your edges from high speed runs (I don’t have to worry about that as much any more :-). You know you have a good wax job when you coast from the quad to Main Street passing everyone when everyone else is pushing or skating I put a soft warm weather wax on at the end of the season and don’t scrape it off, and rub a thick layer on the edges so they won’t be rusty next winter. I silicone spray the bindings, but don’t back off on the binding springs after that one year I forgot to tighten them back up. Pretty amusing for the people watching.5 points

I’m mentally preparing to wake up tomorrow and see no updates on the website or Facebook, then show up tomorrow morning at Blue and see the lifts not spinning, then check Facebook and see the “closed” post at 9:04am4 points

Regardless of what day this is really happening, i have placed 3 dozen eggs, pound of bacon, pound of pork roll, 2 boxes of pancake mix, syrup, cheese, and some rolls in my shopping cart for my Thursday grocery pick up. If its not too much hassle on my end, like me not having to go into the lodge, i will gladly transfer my buddy pass to a PASR in need. I have no idea how to do the buddy pass thing, but i will spend about 10 minutes trying to figure it out, but after that, it may as well burn in hell.4 points

I’m at 15 hours and arm is sore and I’m a little out of it. I didn’t get sweaty but I’ve been peeing a whole lot throughout the night. I was expecting to be sick today so blocked out my schedule today and only have a haircut at noon and will do some work after that.4 points

I have no further details on the nature of the part. Could be rubber, could be metal, could be compound. Could also be a bearing rather than bushing because the guy called it wrong. But he did say that the thingie was in transit this morning.3 points

My parents are getting their first shot today which I'm thrilled about. I'm getting my second next Friday. It seems vaccine/appt information in the city has gotten much better and it isn't as confusing. The FEMA convention center spot is running like a well oiled machine. I'm hoping things continue on this path so we don't need to push our wedding. We took a big chance picking a wedding date in 2021 but I think we will be fine. We just need indoor catered events to resume by August3 points

My parents got fully vaccinated in Saturday, one with J&J and one with 2nd shot of Pfizer. They both had no side effects. I saw a recent article said that young people saw more side effects than older people with the vaccines (pretty interesting if true). I know I was definitely 'out of it/rundown' after my second.2 points

I took another pair out of the press Saturday morning, and finished them up Saturday afternoon, they are getting a tune now. I’ll have the new pair at Blue on Saturday, this will be S2P2. Yes, they do have a picture of my son shirtless on the tip, there may also be a Waldo hidden in there somewhere and perhaps a rocket if you look hard enough. In other news, I remounted S2P1 (the last pair) with a pair of Look px’s. If I did my math correctly, they should be adjustable from a ~25.5 to ~28.5 boot size, they will be available for anyone that wants to take a few runs on them, just find me. I loved night skiing tonight. Around 40 runs and never had to ride the lifts with a single person. Longest line was about 30 seconds. Every run is open and snow was fantastic. JADIP1 point

Exaaactly. What do they know about quality skiing on a mountain with epic conditions. Still, a sunset pic would look awesome here. And don't forget to snap a pic of that lift for me too!1 point
